Yes Corey I love how you teach theory. It's perfect. But could you teach more about reading music?
Okay so is a sharp the same as a half step forward and flat the same as a half step back?
@@paulchristie8452 Yup!
Cheers 🍻
Does every chord have 2 scales mixed into it?
I've just bought myself a keyboard because I've wanting to play piano for so long. Everytime I hear a piano sound or someone playing piano I get excited by it's sound, weird but it's true. I'm in my sixties and I do enjoy your lesson. It's so much knowledge and you're such a patient teacher. Thank you. My reason for learning is to play worship songs. I love worshipping The Lord and I really want to sing and play lots of melodies for The Lord. God bless everyone watching this video. 🙏 for more knowledge and fast learning of new skills and techniques. 😊
Hi I’m also 56. And I just bought a small piano. Have this urge to learn 😅
I'm 58 and a total newbie at piano , this video is the only one that actually makes sense to me. Thank you . I'm hooked.
I have watched a ton of YT videos for beginners.....i just got my new and 1st electric piano a Yamaha P-225. A Christmas present to my self but it just got here Dec 28th 2023.....Just found this YT video and I'm feeling encouraged.
I got the ydp 150 for myself for Christmas
I got an old Casio MT-240 just last week.
Is it Yamaha P-225 worth it, is it really good for the price range. I’m thinking about getting one as well just want to know if it’s totally worth it.
Nothing feels better than a new keyboard! I started with a Williams Legato Iv which is a quality digital piano compared to its predecessors but returned it for a Yamaha PSR-EW310 arranger which is more my speed for needs. Because I didn’t have $750+ to drop on this
Wow, I am watching this 6 am on Christmas Day
I have recently retired and have started to learn piano. I bought my keyboard three weeks ago, and in that time I have watched hundreds of videos on how to play.
I’m so glad I found this one it is by far the best and easiest to follow.
Thank you for taking the time to do this.
Just ordered a keyboard this afternoon, and thought I should check out a ‘first lesson’ video. The first top three from the search were awful; so glad I skipped down the list and found yours. I was riveted from start to finish; playing the practice notes on my knee as you explained them. You have me genuinely excited about the next 1-3 years. Thank you so much.
Hey Corey , I’m Kieran , about to have our 9th child , I love the piano , as a music producer using fruity loops, I’ve never really understood the piano,,, until this video , you’ll literally took the shackles from my feet, I’m now using progressive chords, scales and have a vast understanding. It was basically the way you explained it as nobody else ever did, what a legend, thankyou
I'm so glad to hear I was able to help illuminate the world of piano for you! That's seriously awesome, and I think it'll take your music to the next level. By the way I love Fruity Loops, that was my first ever DAW all the way back in 2003!
@@CoreyLennox top man , can’t wait for more chord progressions from you 👍
So why did you mention the kid?
@@humblehombre9904 ? Who mentioned what kid?

Dude, I've learnt more about music an playing piano in an afternoon following through the video than I've learnt in the last 6 months since I've started this journey! Thanks so much for putting this together!
I have watched RUclips videos for 10 years on playing piano. This is the most insightful ONE video you will ever watch! I am ready to play now!! Thank you Corey. And I will check out your course!
WOW! FINDING the major & minor chords this way is MIND BLOWING! THANK YOU! I've just tried to memorize them but this is SO SIMPLE!
Glad to hear it! Now just make sure to practice them so they become second nature!
This video has helped me immensely. Your instruction is simple and easy to follow. The practice prompts are timed in intervals that keep me engaged.
I'm a recent subscriber and am glad I found you! I'm 80 and have loved music all my life. However, I've never been able to find a way to express it. The way you teach has me excited that I may finally be able to make/play music. After watching a couple of your videos I can see what you've been talking about ..the similarities between songs....etc.
Like I said, I'm excited!
Been making music for 2 decades and already learned a few things in the first 10min. Your approach to teaching this is the best I have come accross Cory. Liked and subbed.
I have no music background whatsoever so I just spent the last three months piecing together information so that I could just START learning piano and this guy covered all the basics that anyone needs to know to get started in one video. Wish I found it three months ago. lol. The course looks pretty good too. I think I'm going to give it try. Thanks!
I do like the course even more! This is kind of an info-dump but the course really goes one step at a time with more bite sized lessons and an action step for each one :-)
@CoreyLennox I just found your channel, and what that comment said, I totally agree. You have obviously thought a lot about how to teach this stuff in a modern way. It really works for me so far. Pretty sure I will take your course.
Such a great resource! Thanks!
best teacher ever! first thing i did was take the note stickers off my keys and it was the best thing i ever did! thank you so much!
This has been the best explanation/ lesson I have found. thank you so much for your patience and not making it sound complicated. I’m an older learner.
the best teaching i have ever followed.
THE BEST VIDEO! everything instantly started making sense to me as a whole and how it’s all works together. now i just need to “do”. Thank you.
Best beginners tute I have found. BRILLIANT. 😊😊
Thank you for this🙏
Man this finally made sense. I found another of your videos on music theory because I’m learning bass and out of all the videos and books I read you explained everything so well.
That video lead me here and now I’m shopping for a keyboard lol. Thank you so much.
Thanks. Will keep watching over and over.
Thank you so much for explaining it so well! I have been searching for a good course on learning the piano & I thank The Lord for finding me The Best Instructor like you! God bless you
🌹What a fantastic teaching video! Blessings to you and your family! THANK YOU!🌹
Thank you for great lessons.
Thanks for your tremendous lessons for beginners. I really enjoyed it, and I will be following up continues
Just watching thus video to when you show how to play a few major chords, I'm already picking up and singing different songs. This is literally the best learninh video out there.
This is brilliant and allows me to map out a learning path for myself. My brain needs to have the big picture and a map to understand what I need to practice and learn. I couldn’t cope with beginner methods as they don’t give me a sense of where I’m going with them. This video does! Thank you!
Thank you so much…… You just got me ready for next semester, I love the way you explain the material 🎉and recap…..
Awesome! Thank you for such detailed information
Great video mate. Thanks.
Really great video man. Keep it up. Looking for next interesting videos from your channel
Many thanks!!
I watched the video and at 49 aI finally going to start after all those years. I know it takes years of dedication, but I feel with these courses I bought I will be able to do it.
Wow! Thank you so much for this understandable explanation. You’re it!
Thank you for the lesson Corey! 😊
Thank you for watching!
Thank you!
You are an amazing teacher…..I love your mindset and approach to teaching🙂🙏
Have been playing the piano for 2 years but still learned quite a bit from your video!

Great video. Thank you so much🙏
You’re very welcome! Glad you enjoyed it

What an amazing lesson, I am definitely buying the 30 day course you created !
THIS IS GOOD THANKS❤❤
I have been playing piano but never understood how to progress. I prayed to God to help me understand piano playing and wallah! .. He led me to this video… and I have watched so many videos but this video explains so much more. I love you for sharing this video. Thank you Sir.
I really love piano, let me be trying,I know I will make it
Thank you for a very concise class but oh boy 3 years before I’m ok, oh well I’m 76 and I’ve always wanted to play. You have a beautiful daughter!
You're truly a great teacher
This is very exciting. Thanks
I'm 65 years of age, and I had never been near a piano till 2 months ago.
My favourite style inspirstion is blues and boogie woogie.
So having retired with time to filI, I started looking at types of keyboards.
I bit the bullet strsight away and brought a Roland digital fp 30. with fully weighted 88 keys. This was an expensive risk, but I didnt care.
After just 2 months, I find I can already produce melodic patterns, including a basic blues bass riff, and now there is an inner desire to learn more.
Then last week, after a lot of you tube surfing, I stumbled on this video.
Its the perfect tool, Ive wstched it from start to finish a couple of times, and now I dip in at random on bits I think I need to work on.
You see, I think a lot of people who self teach in this way become put off by the thousands of videos and methods out there, as they all concentrate on one aspect at a time.
People get bored and they hop over to another video, and realisticslly its becsuse they cannot fathom how it all fits together to make them become the type of player that they yearn to be.
In my view, this video suns up in one go how the keyboard works, and it gives you all the tools for the job straight away so you can decide for yourself where you need to go with your skills.
To know how scales, keys and chord progressions work are all essential skills from the start.
Im not really bothered about just learning tunes parrot fashion, as without the theory to back it up, that will be all you can play.
Im already loving my new hobby, and wish id started years ago.
This video is priceless.
Well done.
Thanks.🎉
Thank you for your time ! I’ve learned a lot. As a beginner, I’ve expected the professional level already.
Im feeling inspired. There may still be hope for me yet. Have not really applied myself. Hoping to teach myself this year
You are the best. Your explanations are quite easy to understand. Good job
This is very exciting method. Thanks
Thank you. By far the best tutorial I have ever seen
Thank you for this video. Waiting for next lessons ;)
WOW!!..brilliant way of teaching piano for beginners, thank you for doing this :)

You're very welcome. Cheers from the US!
Just bought a Yamaha EZ 300 keyboard to see if I can learn basic playing at 68 years old
Patience and practice just hand movements scale practice and learning the major and minor Chords and key layout will be enough for a week or two less haste more progress, thank you for you excellent instruction if in 6 months I can play simple music I will be so happy thanks
wow omg this course is phenomenal for a beginner like me
Wow!Your approach is really really amazing!!!
So glad you like it Frankie!

Thank you so much Sir Corey. Salute to you for sharing your talent. And thank you for making it easy for to understand. You simplified the process on how to start learning. May the Lord bless you!!! 🔥🥰
❤ WOW I'm getting the difference the black and white keys have been confusing me. But now you're making everything discovered or no more Mistry. I can now spot any key on Piano keep making step bye step video like this ❤❤❤❤
Your daughter is adorable! Awesome teaching with so much great information. Thank you sir!
COREY YOU ARE THE BEST THANK YOU FOR THE LESSON SO EASY TO FLLLOW

I am an undiluted greenhorn in this field. I am slow in getting the chords, but I will.

You're very welcome!
so as far as being a great pianist? By going to Berekley, you're also a big brain.
Enjoy much a good teacher indeed I am a beginner of 63yrs😂
Another great video. Time flys by as I watch. Need to rewatch this over and over; so much quality content in your clear concise way of explanation, many thanks once again.
Shame you don’t have PayPal or Apple Pay for your 30 day course.
Thank you for your awesome work on this video. Your daughter is so beautiful ❤
God( The Trinity) bless you, your loved ones, and your work.❤
Lots of thanks and blessings, ❤

Such good lesson and I went through it and learned a lot as a beginner! Thanks! Do you have online class?
Thank you for this video. The things you said made so much sense. When I was looking for videos to teach me I came across this one and I enjoyed the way you explained things and your voice was easy to listen to. Since I purchased your 30 day piano I’ve been bombarded will ALL kinds of piano method ads. I thank you that you’re not sales pitchy like all these other ones. That alone makes me want to complete your class! As I do want to learn technicality while having fun. I also would like to learn to read music with the piano. I’m on your class day 9 (but I’ve only been playing piano for 4 days!… I am surprising even myself. But I do have some musical history under my belt (trumpet in high school)).
Man these social media platforms are so eerily good about targeting us haha! But yeah I really try to be as down-to-earth as I can. I never want to be click-bait-y or over-hype anything, even if I'd probably get more sales that way! I'm really glad you're enjoying the course, that makes me so happy to hear! Best wishes on your piano journey 🙏🏻
Am benard from uganda thank you for being a good teacher
It definitely helps to rewind and replay the chords section a few times until you grasp all the rules
@CoreyLannox
I have no music background. My keyboard was gathering dust( on the cover :)) It just occurred to me why not give it a try! I played many RUclips videos but I am sure this one is gonna do me good! Thanks.
Hi Corey
My name is Cookie . I have met played in my life. I’m 56 years old and have this like longing to learn the piano. I think because I’m a worshipper in church I want to also play and worship on the piano. I know I can do it. 😅
This is revolutionary!
Hope others realize what you've actually put together here as there is so much content!
Back in the VHS tape days this would be deliberately spralled out over a lengthy series that would cost big time!!
You deserve millions of subscribers
I plan to contribute!
Great video, I leaned a lot. I am often confused to the difference between the terms, Keys and Scales. e.g. The key of C and the C scale 😀
It's good I found this video because I wanted to look for an actual and "engaging" discussion on piano playing basics (I've been wanting to learn how to play piano, it's just too bad I can't afford even the electric 61-key yet. I might have to wait until I have the budget). I just bookmarked this video so I can keep reviewing things until then.
Your viewer from Philippines👋
I cannot tell you how many times your instruction has helped me just get comfortable in practicing. Some of your lessons I've been through dozens of times. Practice time, half an hour, what am I still very bad at? Okay, let's do that thing I can't do, there's a section of lesson just for that. After a few weeks, I can do it on my own, still struggling of course but I can and I've always been intimidated by music and instruments for the very reasons you describe. Didn't know the theory months ago.
The real kicker for me is learning scales and like you get a sight picture using firearms, you can get a sight picture and then a feel picture for scales. That technique hugely helps in driving the scales into seemingly less the brain and more the muscle memory. Doing this has also really upped my melody and "music feel", I don't know what to call it, maybe ear. Perhaps intuition for what works and the emotion it creates. I'm so much faster at figuring out which notes sound like what because process of elimination. Find the scale and if you can, the key, roll with it until you feel that click. Those are your notes. Now figure out the rhythm.
Biggest challenge among many is being comfortably ambidextrous and of course finger technique for consistency. Broken chord arpeggio is really really hard for me to do consistently. I can do it but not on the fly. But that's fine because it sounds good and feels rewarding once you "get it" at least for that little while before the conscious mind is like "hey, are you doing this right?" and that's when the whole rhythm and smoothness falls apart. Sometimes I wish I could shut the brain down and simply play but I guess just like karate, the only way to get passed that is more practice.
So in an overly verbose form; thanks man. Your way of explaining this "clicks". I felt stupid at first but, I get it. I'm an old guy, not looking to go pro but yes, old people can learn new tricks with a method of learning that fits them.
For how long have you been playing the piano 😉, I read all your comment and got curious! I have started on my own a month ago straight to the Moonlight sonata 1st movement but what helps me is my yamaha clavinova csp with the streamlights but I really want to learn the basics and bring a strong foundation in playing this instrument
Hi Corey, this was a terrific and very informative video.
I took piano lessons (twice) when I was young. I am now 62 and want to try taking lessons again.
I am going to follow your lessons in this tutorial video and get the book you suggested.
Where could I find lead sheets? They would be very helpful.
I think I will sign up for your online lessons as well.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent.
Your daughter is adorable 💝
This video is fantastic thanks!
I started with boogie woogie tutorials( my first time playing)about 4 years ago and I am just looking up songs that I would Ike to learn at my skill level.
With songs that feel like I have memorized and gotten down, how often should I practice them to keep my "chops" up? I've got a lot of songs that I want to spend my free time learning as well. (I'm not going to worry about 7th chords!) For now...
Am still going through it over and over, because am a slow learner, I will keep watching it to proper understand it
