He said in an interview that right after he performed this, he was by himself in a corridor backstage when Paul McCartney came up to congratulate him and tell him he should keep on going.
It is absolutely that! This and Ben Howard, also performing on Joules Holland. (End of the Affair) you should check it out it, like this performance from Benjamin, is truly breath taking.
"It's not true that only when a door is locked, nobody enters..." Most powerful line in the song imo, and one that describes what I'm going through right now so beatifully.
Everytime I listen to him I'm reduced to tears. And I coming back for more. I have tickets to see him at the Royal Albert Hall in October. And I think I'm more excited about that than my holiday to Greece ❤
I remember seeing this performance when i was a kid back in 2013, right after i went on my way to school. Listening him now feels the same way it did that morning. I don't know what it is exactly, but the feeling is so deep, so touching. Thank you very much, greetings from Chile.
I think this song truly sums up self inflicted isolation and the inner thoughts that someone thinks to justify doing this when they recluses themselves during depression.
One of my favourite performances of Benjamin’s. What he is doing is fearless, and It is exactly what music needs I particularly love the second verse and the way he delivers it. The more and more I listen to his stuff, the more and more I realise the genius of it
It is exactly that. Totally fearless. 100% raw unadulterated passion and talent, and just letting go of any sense of self doubt. And just being truly free and unbound by the weight of life and personal and global struggles. And just performing with all of yourself in that moment. It's so freeing and empowering
@@fuzzhead19 that is such a lovely comment, thanks for writing it. I am currently in the process of finding this level of inner peace with my painting. And you are right, it is freeing and empowering. I’m getting there!
Same for me. I heard him perform on Joules Holland more recently. Same song. And I was in tears after around 10 seconds. He is the piano. I could physically feel every bit of pain and trauma that he was expressing performing that piece. He gives me hope. He gives me the strength to carry on. To be better, and give more time and effort to help anyone who is less fortunate than me. And that can be in any way. So a millionaire might need a different way of looking at something. I'm here for them. Just as much as I am for someone who is destitute with nothing and no one in this world.
I am alone in a box of stone When all is said and done As the wind blows to the east from the west Unto this bed, my tears have their solemn rest I am lonely, alone in a box of stone They claim to love me but they're all lying I've been lonely alone in a box of my own And this is the place, I now belong It's my home, home, home, home home home home home It's my home, home, home, home home home home home It wasn't easy getting used to this I used to scream It's not true, that it's only when the door is locked That nobody enters 'Cause mine had been open till your demise But none had come, well who am I What have I done, what have I done? I've been lonely, alone in a box of my own They claim to be near me but they're all lying, it's not true I've been lonely alone in a box of my own And this is the place, I now belong It's my home, home, home, home home home home home It's my home, home, home, home home home home home Friends, I have met Lovers have slept and wept Promises to stay had never been kept This bare truth of which most won't share I hope you share 'Cause I have been lonely Alone in a box of my own They claim to love me and be near me But they are all lying I have been lonely, alone in a box of stone And this is the place I now I belong It's my home, home, home, home home home home home It's my home, home, home, home home home home home
Interesting to hear you mention Tim Buckley, I need to listen to more of his music (I love song to the siren). The reason why I am commenting on your 4 year old post is - I see similarities between clementine, and Tim’s son, Jeff Buckley. Both have an incredible ability to captivate a live audience in an intimate setting. They are artists... artists in the true sense
Someone asked for the chords, I tried to write them down (corrections are welcome). The verses are F# / F#/Eb / Bbm / Bbm / (left hand on the bass and right hand on the downward arpeggios, third inversion on the Bbm). The chorus is F# / Ebm / B / B / and the "Home" part is F# / C# / B / B /. The bridge at 2:38 goes F# / G#m / Bbm / G#m / C# / three times, with bits of melody on the right hand inbetween the chords. At 3:01, there a B, a C#, and back to the chorus. The ending is just like the verses, fading away on the final Bbm.
Benjamin, you are amaizing artist and true person...thank you a lot! And please dont be producer's toy and any changes for comercial...be the same! Love you!
He said in an interview that right after he performed this, he was by himself in a corridor backstage when Paul McCartney came up to congratulate him and tell him he should keep on going.
Who's Paul McCartney?
NWAASAA One of the best composers of all times.
Got his big break a while back on a Kanye track.

Gui Porto WHO CARES.
Thank you random guy with great music taste that recommended this on a website, just thank you so much
Jajaja so do I
this is genuinely one of my favourite live performances on any song ever, 8 years now and I keep coming back x
It is absolutely that! This and Ben Howard, also performing on Joules Holland. (End of the Affair) you should check it out it, like this performance from Benjamin, is truly breath taking.
It’s a beautiful song but it’s the raw emotion of this performance that really blows me away
Sometimes music transcends everyday life and lifts you to somewhere higher. This is that moment.
You nailed it
"It's not true that only when a door is locked, nobody enters..."
Most powerful line in the song imo, and one that describes what I'm going through right now so beatifully.
So powerful, this song.
I hope you made it out ot it, mate
In the presence of the very special, takes real courage to share, I hope you/ I do..... share
His eyes so beautiful
Genio y figura que bárbaro que gran cantautor y que extraordinario interpretación
I adore his timing on this song.
Benjamin Clementine sings with such authenticity that you don't hear the music, you LIVE it. Just beautiful.
Everytime I listen to him I'm reduced to tears. And I coming back for more. I have tickets to see him at the Royal Albert Hall in October. And I think I'm more excited about that than my holiday to Greece ❤
He was homeless, the pain and hope he sings about is intense. Wonderful man, wonderful performance
You feel less lonely when someone sing the same sorrow...
So true what you're saying my friend. That's the miracle of music... it is with you even in the hardest times
I feel you young lady. It's like that
So amazing how he express so much emotion in one song :')
I remember seeing this performance when i was a kid back in 2013, right after i went on my way to school.
Listening him now feels the same way it did that morning.
I don't know what it is exactly, but the feeling is so deep, so touching.
Thank you very much, greetings from Chile.
I've seen him live earlier this month, absolutely fabulous. I'm utterly surrendered to his music!!
I cant begin to say how much this song means to me right now. Relatable isnt strong enough a word
It's not a song, it's poetry! Amazing
I nearly cried
+Güvenç Arı I did cry. In fact, sometimes I come here so I can listen to great music while crying. :)
+Luann Alves Batista sweet :)
I cried. More than once.
This guy is something else. Just wow! :)
I think this song truly sums up self inflicted isolation and the inner thoughts that someone thinks to justify doing this when they recluses themselves during depression.
Demasiado talento, la primera vez que vi y escuche este video me transmitió todo su sentimiento tanto que me hizo llorar. 👏🏼👏🏼 Gran artista

Just blown away! The raw talent and musical genius of this man is totally overwhelming. I'm in tears 😭

The passion is so amazing. Good to know there is hope for good music.
This transcends music. Its art and spiritual art at that. "kin love this guy
“One might almost say that works of art, like artesian wells, mount higher in proportion as the suffering has more deeply pierced the heart.” (Proust)
THIS :handclap: so glad somewhere said it xx
Quasi impossibile spiegare le emozioni che trasmette questa voce....
Semplicemente vera!
Clementine sei grande....
Creemos que lo hemos escuchado todo y aparece este artista
beautifully honest
talented, gifted and moving!
This is extraordinary.. Beautiful heartbreaking raw and honest
No hay palabras, para describir a este hombre y su arte, lo poco que puedo decir es que es sublime, único, etc.
Honestly love this so much. So happy he’s doing music.
Thanks Paloma
La expresión de su cara al cantar te rompe 💔. Lo que canta lo vivió.
TRUE ART ...How he conveys such Incredible passion is near unique..He is Unique!
I absolutely love this song... It sends me on a little journey
I am alone in a box of stone
When all is said and done
As the wind blows to the east from the west
Unto this bed, my tears have their solemn rest
I am lonely, alone in a box of stone
They claim to love me but they're all lying
I've been lonely alone in a box of my own
And this is the place, I now belong
It's my home, home, home, home home home home home
It's my home, home, home, home home home home home
It wasn't easy getting used to this
I used to scream
It's not true, that it's only when the door is locked
That nobody enters
'Cause mine had been open till your demise
But none had come, well who am I
What have I done, what have I done?
I've been lonely, alone in a box of my own
They claim to be near me but they're all lying, it's not true
I've been lonely alone in a box of my own
And this is the place, I now belong
It's my home, home, home, home home home home home
It's my home, home, home, home home home home home
Friends, I have met
Lovers have slept and wept
Promises to stay had never been kept
This bare truth of which most won't share
I hope you share
'Cause I have been lonely
Alone in a box of my own
They claim to love me and be near me
But they are all lying
I have been lonely, alone in a box of stone
And this is the place I now I belong
It's my home, home, home, home home home home home
It's my home, home, home, home home home home home
Incredible, i hear traces of Tim Buckley, Peter Hammill, and some other that spring to mind right now

One of the best pefornaces I've seen in my life
A stunning performance! We are witnessing a great emerging talent.

Still occasionally watching this since watching that night. Amazing
