Fender Musicmaster - Bass & Chords on One Neck

- The Fender Musicmaster guitar was produced from 1956 - 82, and was a three-quarter scale guitar, aimed at students.
I was given this one (made May 1972) in 1991 after I had a guitar stolen, and the guy who gave it to me bought it new.
It’s current role is very different from what it was intended for, in that I have put two bass strings in place of the 5th and 6th strings, in order that I can play bass and chords on a single neck. In the financial crisis of 2008 and the fallout of it, there was a much reduced demand for larger bands, so I had to make something work! I also use this as part of my one man band setup, two videos of which can be found here:

• Dan Baker’s ONE MAN BAND
Together with a little bit of processing, it can output to a bass amp and guitar amp, and with a balance between the two. You can even stick a load of guitar pedals in the “guitar” chain...
Anything is possible!

You could get a great '70s punk rock bass sound with the pick and that extra gritty fret buzz you demonstrated. Thanks for the idea! By the way, every time I watch your videos, I feel like I'm watching a BBC documentary. Lol! I hope that's a good compliment.
Definitely a compliment on the BBC front!
Thanks for this rig rundown. Very helpful 👍🏼
Thank you Dan. Very interesting.
This is amazingly innovative and well thought out. From a performance standpoint it is a failsafe in the event band mates decide not to show up for the gig and for intentional solo work makes you decide which elements of the song are truly necessary versus what can be left out while still serving the song. Oddly the restriction can be the freedom and force creativity.
Thank you very much!
Clever but simple but clever. :)
Is there any reason that this will only work on a 3/4 scale guitar?
It’s an odd one. By rights and by the laws of physics, this should work on a full scale guitar much better than a 3/4 scale. I still can’t work out why!
I'm just using my _last three fingers_ 😂
😂😂😂😂
Hi Dan, this reminds me of another video I saw recently about guitar tone and I thought it might interest you : ruclips.net/video/n02tImce3AE/видео.html
Thanks!
