just so you know, the kind of backpack you grabbed is the smallest of military backpacks. what you want is either a duffle bag or a "Ruck Sack". anything with "M.O.L.L.E." can be thought of as "smaller" because it has a bunch of spots to hang things on the outside of the backpack, instead of ya know... inside the backpack (because its so small there's no room inside thus the need to make it so you can put shit on the outside). Specifically the "Assault" pack is called that because its only used during active assaults, like kicking in a door. IRL you really Really REALLY don't want to have a bunch (typically a ruck sack holds 60-90 lbs) of stuff in your pack when actively kicking down a door, unless you absolutely must. The Assault pack isn't used for carrying large amounts of anything, including ammo. The "LBV" or load bearing vest is used in combination with the assault pack to house any ammo needed during an excursion from the vehicle and back.
To sum up, Duffle Bag > Ruck Sack (sometimes called a Ruck Pack, or something else with Ruck at the front) > Back Pack > Assualt Pack > Load Bearing Vest.
For realism your character would be using a Ruck Sack and an Assault pack for excursions on foot. Then before entering a hot zone, drop the ruck sack, load up the assault pack in the hot zone, go back to your ruck sack, transfer from assault to ruck, pick the ruck back up and then move on to next hot zone. IRL Ruck Sacks have quick release tabs that make then suuuper fast to take on and off. since the assault pack is normally empty it goes on after the Ruck Sack. Since you aren't using guns, an LBV seems out of character. Though you could use the ammo pouches on the LBV to carry snacks... Thats what I always did as a FOB rat (someone who never left base) in the military.

That was a lot of very useful information! One of the big reasons I stuck with the assault molle is actually similar to something you listed. It is super light weight with just a bit of room, and doesn't get in the way in a fight. Even if I completely load up the assault backpack, I still don't need to drop it to fight. I've considered larger backpacks, but then I'd have to drop them to fight and if I have to run I'd leave it behind. Ontop of that, I often forget to drop it or get surprised by fights. This is coming from my experience with attempting larger backpacks in solo runs and not liking it.

@@AreimaYT The idea of the ruck is you drop it before entering an area where you might have enemies. IRL that was any time we stepped out of a vehicle. (so it stayed in our vehicle most of the time) for your character it would make lore sense to carry it until you can see your first zombie. Drop it, clear a path to your next "checkpoint", walk back, grab it, then drop it off at the "checkpoint". the whole idea is that it is being that you shouldn't have it on you when getting into a fight because you left it at the clothing store you had previously cleared out 2 blocks away.
I'd totally understand if you think that would boring to watch/tedious to play! please don't feel any pressure to play it that way. I just thought you'd like to know how to use the various packs in a lore accurate way.

A very productive and enjoyable episode. Any session where new spells are accessed is a winner. Also, I rejoiced seeing you contemplate summoning a bear to help you take down the dissolute devourer, even if you wisely decided not to risk the long casting time. Vellum still needs a steady supply of food and water. Then he can master the mighty Cause Bear and all of the other lesser (but still useful) enchantments in his repertoire.

For the mana infusing tool, you need an enchanters tool, the silver/copper bracelet I believe. I remember last time I played the recipe for the copper bracelet was auto-learned at a certain spellcraft value, might be worth looking to see if you have it with the filter menu in the crafting dialog. Filter -> q:mana infusing should find it if you have learned it already. They may have made it require an enchanting manual to craft though. Sidenote, and maybe spoilers for Mind over Matter ahead!
If you want that dust for the mid-tier psychic abilities, you have to find an overmap special marked as "strange crystal outcropping" or something similar, then smash one of the big-ass rocks you find there. Do it until you get dust of the desired flavor.

Despite having Spellcraft 6 I don't have this recipe, however with some of the recent updates to Magiclysm it does now have recipes that take a combined check of spellcraft and another skill. For example Spellcraft + Fabrication was Druid bow. So I probably need to raise my Fabrication or Applied Sciences high enough to autolearn the recipe.
Its also possible it is in a book as a recipe, since I did have one for Alchemy, Enchanting, and making Black Dragon goods. However I DO have an enchanting recipe book, so I'd be surprised to not have the recipe.

@AreimaYT got curious so I made a new character and debug learned all recipes. Looks like the silver infusion bracelet takes spellcraft 3 and fab 4, with the copper version only taking spellcraft 2 and fab 3. I turned off the "knows all recipes" thing and tried to set those as my skill values, though, and auto-learned nothing. It seems like the only way to learn to craft a tool with mana infusing is to find the book The Journeyman Enchanter's Primer, and that only lets you make the upgraded silver version. I even tried giving myself fab 10, spellcraft 10, and all proficiencies, but it looks like it's just straight-up impossible to learn the copper infusion bracelet recipe as I couldn't find any books that taught it, and the silver infusion bracelet only seems to exist in that single book. This seems like a developer oversight, might do some more testing later after updating to the latest experimental. Might be worth tossing a handful of copper in a hole, waiting a couple hours then debug spawning in the bracelet tbh.

@@timjones5953 I deeply appreciate you taking the time to do this. Knowing that I technically already would be able to make the bracelet and its just a missing recipe is a huge relief. I spent a lot of time searching wiki's and reddit and couldn't figure this out. I am not averse to cheating in the bracelet, and I will likely look up the intended recipe and if I have everything we will "make" one in an upcoming episode.

@AreimaYT Sounds good! Sorry I couldn't find any satisfactory info on this, but that's how open source projects go sometimes. Honestly, just debugging it in, using it for the rituals, then immidiately throwing it away and saying you used the magic circle in the tower instead would probably be fine, since I believe those ritual circles are supposed to be able to work with spells.

@AreimaYT Just tested with the latest experimental, still have the same issues. Maybe I should notify the nice folks responsible for magiclysm that the most basic step in the enchanting crafting chain is broken lol.

At this point, the Edmontosaurus needs a name.
    Edmond the Edmontosaurus.
You mend armor and the spear with gold, but the recipe says "5 copper OR 5 gold, etc". It makes sense not to waste copper right now, but in general, it seems easier to find.
Is it possible to wear two spear slings? It would be nice to see Vellum bring the staff with him since he tried very hard to obtain it in the first place. Also, would it make sense to connect all the wizard towers with the portal system? Kinda fits the style.
Hope I don't come off as demanding or backseat gaming, I really enjoy the series and look forward to each episode!

I am hoping to find some lead in bulk, because we specifically need copper for the ritual and we might fail a few times.
Even if we did wear two slings it would really burden us to have both. I like the headcanon that Vellum knew that "making your first staff" was what made him a mage, but immediately realized that a flimsy magic staff was impractical in his current situation.

I play with the Magiclysm mod but so far, I only take utility spells since I don't find combat magic useful for me. Plus almost combat, my character does an excellent job fighting more than doing magic. I train my melee skill to the point brawling is such an excellent technique combined with sweep attacks and knockbacks used by the fire axe a rather excellent weapon along with a pipe spear, the improved version of the basic pipe spear, do impaling that pierce two enemies. And not to mention he is an excellent shot using the Ar-15 and the M9 Combat Pistol.
Watching how you use magic is an excellent sight, something I couldn't do. Still, I got used to fighting mano-o-mano against the dead and I figured an strategy on clearing hordes so most likely I wouldn't play with magic. I don't take the negative traits that reduce mana efficiency nor regeneration points for free points though, because I use magic for utilitarian uses, like using magic as a lighter. (No offense to Kelvinists but Stormshaper's utilities were easily accessible to me)

As expected, to take down an enemy that regerates too fast, a massive bleed dump can stop their ability to regenerate. Did it before with a Wood Axe.
