Season 3 really felt like they were taking a larger step. The redesigns of the main characters, connecting past stories, and the Nightsister arc, which kicked the series into high gear as the trailers said.
One thing about the Mortis arc that interested me was how the Father wanted Anakin to stay and take his place while the war was still going on. If Anakin had agreed, he would be bringing balance to the Force, but what about destroying the Sith? Would Palpatine's plan ultimately fail because Anakin wasn't around to become Darth Vader? Would the Jedi ultimately defeat Palpatine and Dooku? The Mortis arc really intrigues me with its mystery and how it still continues to this day. The Worlds Between Worlds being associated to them and Anakin being there gave me a theory as to why Anakin could become a ghost despite turning good 5 minutes before his death and not getting that special training. Since Anakin is the 'chosen one', he is to take the Father's place once he finds balance. He found this balance after saving Luke from Palpatine. So then, when he died, Anakin became the guardian of Mortis and could become a ghost like Obi-Wan and Yoda.
Mortis is where the show really became peak Star Wars for me. It's still my favorite arc of the whole show. It was such a huge departure from the usual tone of the series and I mean that in the best way. We got so much new Force lore and some of Anakin's best development in the show. Him turning to the dark side to prevent himself from doing... well exactly that is tragic but absolutely something Anakin would do if he'd had advance knowledge of what was to come. Also I think this was one of the best seasons for Anakin and Ahsoka's relationship. Mortis, Citadel, and the Trandoshan arc all go to show just how strong their bond was and how attached Anakin was becoming which makes Ahsoka's leaving the Order hit so much harder.
One piece of foreshadowing I love in this season is when Anakin and Padme are discussing their relationship and Rex is standing right there and is totally able to hear everything they're saying. (You can see what I'm talking about at around the 15:12 mark of the video). It's revealed in season 7 that Rex has known about them for a while but here it's hinted at just how long Rex was in on it.
In season 3 the show got really ambitious. You're absolutely right about the cinematography and color contrast really standing out. It wasn't just the new designs for me but how much more cinematic the show looked here. Season 4 wouldn't of had that "kids show gone dark" reputation I feel without season 3 allowing the show to visually evolve into looking and feeling like 20-23 min long movies.
I agree with the fact that in the third season they wanted to expand the theater of war, and there is certainly the appearance of a galaxy richer in voices and agents. But, in fact, it is only an appearance, given that many elements are not properly explored: it is true that, to make ends meet, it would have been impossible to show a peace treaty that was successfully signed between the republic and the separatists, but however, a small faction of separatists could be shown who did not approve of the methods of Dooku and the other leaders, and who secretly began to amass weapons and troops, then forming the first rebel cells. To justify the absence of alien rebels from the original trilogy (Episodes IV, V and VI), those separatists could be made to act in the outer rim, so that they could be fished out, possibly, in Rebels or The Bad Batch.
Nice job thank you! Will you talk about the cancelled clone wars arcs in season 7?!? I think the stories either in books/comics or those that were not adapted are some of the BEST of the show and start to show Sidious winning at every turn.
The thing about the Separatists I always perceived was that military officials and citizens/politicians of a faction aren't the same. Despite the prequels' issue with showing the Separatists' point of view, it was clear that they were pawns of Palpatine, the leader of the Republic. Heroes on Both Sides was a special episode for me because it showed that the clone wars were more grey than perceived. Especially since the season introduced Tarkin as a military officer in the Republic. Giving us 2 imperial villains in the soon to be Empire.
Has anyone else noticed that objects like the dagger of mortis are literally nightsister magic? It’s very interesting in hindsight considering their connection to The Ones on Peridea
@@gbozzi05_ oh absolutely, I just find it so interesting because of that new connection. When Obi Wan pulls the dagger, it looks and sounds exactly like when the Great Mothers pulled out the sword. Maybe they’ll retcon that, maybe they won’t. Just interesting food for thought
I remember as a kid first seeing the Nightsister episode, and it was so different from what I had been used to in Clone Wars that I was actually kinda scared of them. The only thing I wish was that they chose to wait until that episode to introduce the new character designs, it felt kinda anticlimactic having them show up in Heroes on Both Sides when there’s not much action going on (don’t get me wrong tho I love that episode❤)
Season 1 was okay but it suffered from what I like to call 1st Season Syndrome, but season 2 was the equivalent Of Mega Man 2 because it was a massive improvement & Season 3 was the big step up.
Another detail many people ignore is about the true nature of the Republic before the war The jedi in S1 are convinced that they fight against the Sith to restore freedom, when in reality they are trying to keep rebels in place while the Separatists are fighting for their independence Also the Citadel was actually created as a jedi prison by the Republic, the Separatists just captured it because it was located in one of the many outer rim worlds the "good guys" have neglected
I curious to see if you will cover the canceled story arcs or clone wars “season 8” if you will. Son of Dathomir, Dark Disciple, Boba’s bounty hunter arc, Return to Mon Cala, Yoda on Kashyyyk. Those stories are in my opinion some of the BEST Clone Wars WOULD have had to offer us. Still waiting for them the #CompleteTheCloneWars
I actually think Padme character is great and a very important POV of the story. To me, Padme is supposed to represent the truly good side of the political system in Star Wars. Her and Obi Wan are the 2 most morally correct characters in the prequels. I think her personality makes sense because she’s supposed to be like Leia, similar to how much of Luke’s personality is similar to Anakins. During the prequels and CW, I always viewed anakin and padme as a mirror to Luke and Leia. Padme is not the most complex character because she was never meant to be one. She’s idealistic, one of the only non force sensitive characters in Star Wars that is truly good, she’s a character that is supposed to be impossibly perfect. She’s the antithesis of palpatine, a literal personification of what the republic could be if it wasn’t corrupt. Compared to the space wizards, of course she feels boring. She’s a grounding character.

Love the nightsister stuff in this season!
So much awesome stuff this season
Season 4 is definitely the best in my opinion. But season 3 is where you can tell the animation takes a big step up
100%
Season 4 is awesome!! So many great arcs during that!@@thegoldman25
I definitely turn to TCW episodes from S3 onwards first (maybe some from S1 and S2).

Hopefully we'll get answers in the Ahsoka series
I still think that Anakin is basically the master of the world between worlds/the embodiment of the father.@@thegoldman25

I try my best!

The Arc troopers episodes were perfect. It really helped humanize the clones and set the stage for conflicts and payoffs for the future of the series.
a great episode for sure
I hope they make a clone wars anthology series or something else that expands the clone wars even more!
They kinda have with tales of the jedi.
