I was still in Miami when they played Puerto Rico. I did not know that he almost died in Puerto Rico. Some friends told me the concert was amazing. we have great beaches here but you need to know where to go. Great interview my friend.

I just love the progression of these last three albums. So much went into it, so much to discover, lyrically, musically, thematically. One of the few bands that really grows with each piece they release.
"Disengaged and connected" really describes this album so well. Love it!

I couldn't agree more with you. It's weird that the biggest jump that they could have would be to do less but also simultaneously do more as well. I think it's such a fantastic record and just shows how great The Ocean are at pushing their sound forever further forward. Thanks for checking out the video!

Thanks for this interesting conversation! Crazy to hear of Robins experience. absolute horror scenario. I am happy he made it and doesn‘t seem traumatized.
About the new album: I think it is a different experience, but at the same time surely the typical The Ocean sound. While aside from Preboreal and Parabiosis I don‘t see too many „bangers“, I think the overall album experience is brilliant and less exhausting than the rest of their catalogue. It put me in a sort of trance-like state and think it will further grow on me due to the subtle details Robin mentioned.
I had a similar experience with Asymmetry by Karnivool and now I love this album and still seem to discover new nuances.

I couldn’t agree more! It’s The Ocean but not as we know it right? I would love to see what a lot of the fans thought but I can imagine that there won’t be too many complaints. I did really enjoy it, the band have just been pushing themselves further forward with every release and this is no exception.
I think Robin’s experience is truly terrifying and I’m so thankful that through the quick actions of the coastguard and his band mates that we were even able to have this conversation! Life is incredibly short :(

Just had a thought i should check if there was anything new from these guys this morning. Listened to the album 3 times in a row, definitely a bit of a departure from some of their older stuff but theres a lot of the older heavier stuff in there too. And it really makes those parts feel even more important, and bigger in the grand scheme of the album. This one will be for sure in my regular rotation for quite a while

I'm curious if they will delve into the Anthropocene now. I feel like Subatlantic really ended with a good point to delve into that. The Anthropocene is basically
defined as "The current geological age, viewed as the period during which human activity has been the dominant influence on climate and the environment." Now it's sorta debated if we're still in the Holocene, but many think the Anthropocene epoch is the proper way to define our current day and age.

Sounds like the vast majority of people would have in fact died considering he sounds like a very adept swimmer
