It's a crime not adding ATARI because the Amiga is made of ATARI proprietary computer chip designs . It's still an ATARI computer even though the new name was paid for .
The demise of commodore was nothing to do with the cd32, it was a great success in Europe, especially Uk. The reason it failed is because commodore went bankrupt
Commodore only ordered enough parts to produce 100k Cd32s. Suppliers would not let them have the parts on credit. Commodore needed to sell 200k Christmas 1993 to survive.
37:35 Nowhere near the worst tragedy. Not even close. China had it far worse as did Ukraine as did the cccp in general. This is just the 20th century. Adjusted for size, Cambodia was worse too. What nobody ever likes to talk about is it wasn't just Germany. The cccp came in from the East. Their occupation was just as bad. If we had a bunch of Russians running Hollywood, we would be far more aware of all the crimes in the East. There would be yearly books and movies about the Holodomor or the reign of terror. If hollywood was run by the chinese, we'd all know about Nanjing and MANY, MANY other crimes in China committed by Japan. But instead, Hollywood is run by guys named goldstein.
@@RetrogamerGenX Sure. But the singular focus on one of many tragedies is annoying. RUclips literally used to block the word holodomor until it became expedient for them after Feb of 22. Not only was it not the worst, it's probably the least. It has been weaponized as well. The average American could not tell you how many Americans died in the war, but they sure can tell you that other number.
The CD32 was basically a gimmick. Something Commodore was used to doing of attempting to sell something new that really wasnt. Anyone remember that C64 console or the CCTV???
I am not sure who tried it first, Atari with the XEGS or Commodore with the C64GS. But they both tried that, and they both tried it with the 'next gen' Jaguar and CD32. But at least Atari did something custom, rather than just sticking a Falcon into a console box.
@@slaapliedje Ah yes C64GS thanks for that. The Jaguar for me was genuinely a distinct console, didn't have much to do with the ST range of computers compared to the CDTV C64GS CD32 which were essentially just an existing computer with the keyboard removed.
@judewestburner Rumors had been floating around about an ST based game console, and from most stories, the Amiga was also supposed to be a gaming console from the beginning. Add in some RAM, kickstart/workbench and a keyboard/mouse and it suddenly became a general purpose computer. I miss those days... competition made things awesome, instead of just an iteration of what came before.
@@slaapliedje I've never heard of the ST games console (I will look into it), that's completely new to me. I take the point on the Amiga starting out life as a gaming console and then tacked on the 'computer' bit later on (we know that's pretty much untrue from an intentions point, I went for a meal with RJ Mical and Dave Haynie in 2015 in Amsterdam at Amiga 30 and spoke about that, that was AWESOME, like sharing bread with John Lennon or something!!!!) insomuch that the intention was always to build a computer but call it a console to keep share holders happy, but then switch fully when the console market collapse happened... in either case though, it was still making use of existing technology without really bringing anything additional.
I'm pretty sure that's why that didn't come out in the wash until years later, I'm sure Woz would have been pi$$ed, and might have quit then and there. It's funny how different generations see Steve Jobs. The older generations see him for what he was, a wannabe hippie that turned into a egotistical, ruthless businessman, that didn't care about anything, friends, family, co-workers, etc... Just the money!! The younger generations see him as some kind of savior to tech. The one that saved Apple from going under like Atari and Commodore. The creator of the iMac, Ipod, and Iphone. All of which are untrue, except for saving Apple. He never designed any of that, he really wasn't an engineer, Woz was. He just knew how to bring products to market, and sell them, and make people think they couldn't live without them and needed them. I still feel today, just like back in the 80's, Apple products are far too overpriced for what they are. All you're doing is paying for the that lil' Apple logo on it, that's about it. Oh and adding to Apple's profit, seeing a lot of their products are made in china with child labor at barely any cost to them.. lol
Steve Jobs was probably as overrated as Jack. It was Woz who was responsible for all of the early success. Jobs was gone by the time the Mac became profitable and had good growth. His venture into his own company (Next) was a complete and total failure. Though, to be fair, he did have a redemption arc after his come back in 97. But it was not entirely his credit for turning Apple around. His return alone, even if he had done absolutely nothing filled the Macintosh market with enthusiasm. There was a malaise built up in the Apple ecosystem which the announcement of Jobs' return helped to ease. He ultimately made the right decision to cut all of the programs Apple was involved in and reorient the company back to its core business. It's not so much that he was bad, it's that he was nowhere near the titan he is made to be in the pop culture. Woz simply does not get nearly the credit he deserves. Jobs' ripping off of Woz shows you what kind of man he was.
I think people who really know, and understand get the fact that Woz was the real genius behind Apple’s success. He was truly passionate, and he is really important on the education side as well.
I think Jack could have done well in any industry, and look at how he almost replicated his commodore success at atari, he bought a company at its deadbead and revived it for a decade or more
@@kangarht He ran every company he ever ran right into the ground. Despite having the number one selling computer on the market, when he left Commodore, they were bankrupt. Then he went and ran what was left of Atari right into the ground.
Excellent video, history is always interesting. Still need to find myself a commodore lol
Since your in Japan I would try to find the C64's older brother, the Commodore MAX. Those are pretty rare here in the States.
nice retro docu. appreciated all the original source material and interviews with industry veterans. 📖 drew from a lot of the original sources. ✅
Thanks. A lot of time and research went into these. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Ooooh now we're talking!

it was one step more popular than the amstrad gx. i only ever saw one, in a pawn shop in like 1994/5
It also had to do with the XOR patent lawsuit, which prevented Commodore from selling the CD32 in the US...

They do talk about the C64 called the GS in the Commodore section.
