Yes omonia square has its problems and probably isn't the most aesthetically beautiful area of Athens but we stayed for a mini break last may and are returning in June this year for 11nights,hotel was amazing and never felt threatened once, please remember everywhere has its problems but like everywhere you go just be careful, my sister went to Athens and stayed in plaka which everyone says is the poster area to stay and she was robbed, so just to say it can happen anywhere, felt safer walking omonia than in my home town in England 😞

Yeah agreed. The square itself where I bought the coffee etc wasn't too bad at all ... it was about 500 metres away from the square that it became, in my opinion unsafe, especially at night. Because viewers knew where I stayed, I felt an obligation to not recommend it and state my honest (as always) opinion of the area. I loved Athens and I'll definitely be back. I hope you have a lovely time in June and thanks very much for your comment and watching the video. Best wishes, Al.

The fish is excellent choise. Greeks have a saying that the best fish is the fresh one. Being a country surrounded by sea it’s only logical to consume them in abundance since fresh ones are available almost everyday all year around.

Psiri is awesome! Our tour guide during the day pointed down an ally and told us to go down there at nighttime haha first 100m we thought he was pulling our legs then all this noise and colour. Athens is smashing. Great video!

I love baklava too! But my favorite traditional Greek sweet is the one made only during Christmas and it's called "melomakarono", though it is not a dessert. Melomakarona (plural) are more like a treat. A genius sweet nonetheless, made with 6 ingredients and no butter: flour, olive oil, orange, cinnamon, cloves and honey. If you find a good pastry shop, you'll get what I mean. If you could furthermore find them chocolate coated... damn!

My god that sounds amazing! Greek food is my favourite food and I'll definitely keep a look out for what you describe! Thanks very much for the recommendation and for watching, it's very much appreciated 😊😊

@@TravelSavedMyLife the best Greek sweet is called "galaktoboureko". It leaves melomakarona or baklava far behind if it's fresh and cold. Another great traditional sweet is called "Halva Farsalon". Search for both

unfortunately in athens it happens to be that one of the worst areas is in the center or close to it(omonia, exarchia is kinda bad too but not omonia bad). Thats why in omonia its full with the cheapest air bnbs and hotels you can find. Now why does the police dont do anything about it? Thats a long story that even I am not really sure. But aside from that im glad i found your channel. Great humor and content 👍

Thanks a lot! Yeah agreed, I couldn't believe the police weren't present but it's only a small area of an otherwise incredible city and it was my fault that I stayed there (as I said in the video) I usually do a bit more research before I book but I just went off price and location to the metro, it was my mistake. Glad you enjoyed the video mate and hope you like the NYC series. Thanks very much for watching!

Just as a tip for future travellers, most neighbourhoods in the Western side of the Athens municipality are either more crime ridden than average or straight up ghettos. Omonia, Kypseli, Patisia and Sepolia are the some of the worst places to be. If you ever travel to Athens i would recommend finding a place outside of the central municipality, like in Marousi, Zografou, Cholargos, Chalandri or Psychiko and just take the metro or bus to go to Central Athens. Sure they are a bit more expensive and the public transit is a bit of a hustle but the neighbourhoods are nicer and the vibes are chiller.
