I like that leaf taboggen! I’m still raking! I tuned up an old leaf shredder with a lay down hopper, so my piles get raked directly into the shredder, collected in a mesh bag, then dumped into a browns bin to feed compost tumblers.

That's great. I should probably get a tumbler or two myself, might get compost a lot faster. Thanks for commenting.

Thanks for the video, good tips, and funny description. I’m starting to think that leaf raking is the way to go, blowing only better on my gravel driveway. I need one of those tarps!

Your leaf/tarp system works great. I used a 10’x12’ plastic tarp and some nylon rope I had on hand. Previously I used two 48 gallon trash cans, each on wheels, to remove leaves which was very time consuming. Your tarp system probably holds as much as 6 trash cans of leaves or more. I’ll switch to a cloth tarp when the plastic one wears out. What kind of rope do you recommend?

Great, glad you found it useful. I'm using 1/4" manila rope. Thanks for commenting.

Do you have a video on how to tie the rope?

How'd the big tomato cage work out? I have the same squirrel problem.

It worked pretty well. It did keep squirrels out. But we had more hornworms and tomato fruitworms than usual, I think probably because the cage kept birds out as well. We got it under control with a combination of spinosad spraying and hand-picking the worms. Also the close plant spacing did reduce the yield somewhat but at least we got a steady supply of tomatoes which is a big improvement over last year. Thanks for asking.

People ARE doing this - and for a very long time (decades in my case). There are even tarps with drawstrings already sewn into a stitched sleeve all around the tarp edge (google it). I'm actually a little shocked that this "old coot" has been using this technique forever but never just bought one of those -- they work better, less leaves "leak" when you pull the drawstring tight
