- This fall leaf clean up job was big. Tons of leaves fell from a recent storm. I try to give tips on pricing leaf cleanup work. I also share some strategies I have used for leaf clean up jobs in the past. Paul Jamison and I are blowing and mulching leaves in this video. We had a great time and the lawn looked much better though not perfect by any means. Thanks for watching and I hope to see you in the next video.

Best 2 tips I can give for leaf cleanups is 1 - lift your deck up as high as it goes when you come up to a big pile of leaves. As the pile gets smaller, lower the deck accordingly… and 2 - mulch them in reverse. The deck will suck them up easier/faster in reverse versus piling up in the front more and being thrown away more when doing it going forward.
I'm a big fan of just keeping on a regular bi-weekly (or weekly) schedule, and handling the leaves as they fall. Good stuff, Jason!
The hardest thing to do when it comes to leaf clean ups is to convince the customers to let you mulch them every 2 weeks. I usually charge based on a double cut as if you were cutting the grass. A couple passes and the leaves have disappeared and chopped up fine enough to (once decomposed), benefit the soil. If the customer doesn't understand the advantage and wants me to wait until most of the leaves are down then that's usually way too many leaves to mulch. You do multiple passes, plowing leaves and still end up with a big mess. In that case I blow them to the street, or drag with a tarp, and let the city suck them up. The price for that can and should be a wallet flattening experience. BTW, Jason. nice change with the classical music. You just elevated your status and sophistication!
Still one of the many ways we deal with them .awesome video that five pound burrito is so true
Thanks for the video from cleveland ohio its about that time again for fall clean up just got a zero turn last year l was raking not after watching your video
I use a bagger mower for leaf jobs. I find it is better to blow the leaves from around edges and obstacles after I bag most of the leaves so that I am not running through those big piles. Mulching them prior to bagging for big jobs is a great idea. Thanks for the video Jason. I've learned a lot from you.
Looks good!!! I can’t decide if I want to bag with mower OR blow and use suction equipment. I’m on a tight budget for equipment. Need to do it as the northeast is filled with leaves!!! Money maker.
I try to get my customers to let me come about every two weeks until they all fall. I cut the lawn in sections instead of one big yard. I use a chute blocker for the most part and go in reverse to make small windrows.
Love me some gator blades in leaf removal with a closed off deck
I always divided the yard up into sections and blow all the leaves into the center with the mower. Then bag them. Either run over them with a bagging mower or tarp them. I also would get the gutters and roof. Bagging the yard weekly is pretty easy if you have the right equipment. The people that wait until they have all fallen are the people that really don't want to pay. Usually, that ends up making the job harder because they get wet and stick to the ground.
And it costs $350 instead of 3@ 90
Shoulder surgery 12.13 will have me one armed. Guess I can blow the leaves onto the concrete drive?
double charge
Jason's a guru.. I wonder if there is a championship for lawn mowing? NZ.
Opti 2 is the best 2 cycle mix out there. You'll love it.
That's what I use. It is great
I have the same blower. A fantastic blower but wish it would have come with and extra nozzle that had a smaller tip like the stihl 800. I am thinking thinking it would move wet packed down leaves better
That method in the business!
so do you charge the same for leaf clean up as grass cutting the lawn for the customer?
Why do lines, go in around the lawn from outside to inside pushing the discharged leaves inside and you go over them next round inside. Continually mulching them as you go inside?
What would you charge for a job like that? i know it was a friend but what would you charge for that and how long did it take? obviously you took time to record videos but without all that. Thanks again for all your help. I am going full time in the fall of 2023 and gaining a TON of knowledge from your videos.
Does that mower have a mulch kit or just the blocker on the deck
Chute block
Good job
Fun times!!
What did u charge?
U said you don't mow full time anymore. Did you get an 8 to 5 job or just cut back.
I do weed control and fertilization
@@lawncarelife I thought about doing that but didn't know if It would be worth it. We mow around 100 properties a week so I would start out with customers . So I guess you make more doing that.
What blades are you running?
i loved this!! thanks for sharing!!!!

Is Paul MHMR?
Started mulching my leaves about 5 years ago and will never go back to bagging. Pointless IMO. The leaves add some bonus nutrients to the soil as well.
We continue every 2 weeks for most mowing customers. Big leaf jobs get charged per man hour, this is only fair way in my opinion because of all the variables when doing leaves.
Question! I tried spraying glyphosate on some active weeds( rest of yard is dormate), they’re not dying! It doesn’t look like a sedge blade if I am looking right… any suggestions?!
If I could take a guess, if the rest of the yard is dormant due to the cold the weeds should be shutting down too and most likely they aren’t actively absorbing nutrients but along with that is they aren’t absorbing the weed control. Or they are but at a much slower rate. If your wondering if it’s a nutsedge, usually they come up and are active through the warmer temperatures so I would think you could rule that out. But then again I’m only assuming it’s cold by you. What are your current temperatures?
@@Ty.92 id say it’s probably average 50’s in the day and 20s at night with the strange 75 once in a while
@@tretre1692 gotcha. I’m in Jersey. Usually low 40’s up to sometimes 50’s in the day if I’m lucky and 20’s at night just like by you. The weeds probably aren’t absorbing the glyphosate as fast as they normally would therefor look like they aren’t wilting or dying. Most weed controls pretty much become ineffective once the temperature dips. To be honest at this point, I wouldn’t even worry about them too much. You might have some stragglers due to the odd warm days but most likely they will die off soon with colder temps rolling in. Some can survive a while but in my experience, most common weeds don’t make it in winter. Spray the weed control if you want to see what happens but don’t expect it to do much right now. If they still look like they aren’t going anywhere and it’s bugging you then I’d dig them up and throw the weed away off the lawn. Then I would just lock things down for the rest of the year and prep for early spring with fertilizer and pre-emergents. And have the weed killer ready for anything that makes it passed the pre-emergents.
@@Ty.92 appreciate it! Preemergents are great, just didn’t spray this spot since I didn’t have my desired seed down this year in the spot! Thanks for the advice!

IT'S AN OAK!
Wow
Never use regular unleaded. Only premium.
Why?
Been using unleaded for decades. Never had an issue.
87 for mowers , 89 for 2 cycle
20 years no problems
I'm not in the business, but have only run non-ethanol gas in all my power equipment for the past several years. It seems to make a big difference with carb and other fuel problems I used to have in the past.
I think it's funny you getting gas with your ear plugs in.
Keeps Paul's laughing from causing any hearing loss down the road. 😂
Looks like a sycamore tree..... Typically found near water sources....
This ain't the beginner cheap method.
$3.44 per gal.? $2.75 at Sam's Club.
I didn't pay $3.44. That must be the mid or high grade. Sam's is definitely cheaper though
If you want to wait for 30 minutes to get gas. My time is more valuable and eat one less Wendy's to offset the cost if need be.
@@shanew7361 The sun is up and you are on a YT video. How valuable can it be? LOL
Wow! You didn't show the lawn before and after. You didn't talk about how much you would charge for that job or how long the job took?? I've seen your videos before and they are usually alot better than this. I think the partner is throwing you off.
