I knew that mountain road very well when I was younger. My father would always stop at the sheetz in Hancock Maryland then cut across that road, through Old Town Maryland and to the cabin he had on the mountain. I wish I could be young again and have a few more weeks with my father. 😢
I live on the eastern shore of Md. I camp in green ridge multiple times a year. Actually stayed at your spot 4th of July last year lol. Campsite 65 is the best imo. Elevated a bit with a beautiful view overlooking the Potomac and West Virginia
I've tried to grab site 65 multiple times but it's always busy. We stayed in the one downhill from it (66?) during the dead of winter and hiked up the mountain behind it and found an old primitive spot, gorgeous views!
I'm also on the eastern shore of Maryland and greenridge is one of my favorite spots in state for camping and dual sport riding. I've also been known to run down to George Washington forest in Virginia and Bald eagle in Pennsylvania. I'm also a big XJ guy!
21:45 you're coming down Sideling Hill on Riser Road, crossing Sideling Hill Creek...leaving Washington County and entering Allegany County. Yea...you're in my backyard! I never and I mean NEVER get tired of the Lord's creation up here and all the natural beauty! Nice video...thanks for sharing!
I enjoyed this video so much. I love love Green Ridge. Now that I've moved closer, I am busy and don't visit as often. It is a great place to visit, camp, and drive. Especially in a jeep!

Stayed at the same camp site with my Dad and Sister about 30 years ago. Great memories! I remember washing dishes in the little stream / creek just next to that site. There's a killer campsite, can't remember the number but it overlooks the Potomac River Bends - almost the same view from the overlook. Stayed there a few times and it was Epic. Had bad storms one time, we could see the Thunder Storms coming up and down the valley - awesome. Thanks for this video! Oh - and there was no gate on that one tunnel 30 years ago!
And there was a place by the river down in Little Orleans called "Bills" and he had a bunch of dollar bills taped up on the ceiling - his retirement. Hole in the wall bar / bar food / boat rentals. Tragically, I think it burned down before he could retire.
Bills is still there but idk if it has been rebuilt. The site looking over the Patomac you mentioned is site 65 and I was able to stay there a few months ago with Aspen! What a cool site that is
Stickpile Tunnel is famed to be named for a man who died near there and found on a stick pile. We will never know. It is one of the many tunnels in Green Ridge State Forest that were built for the Western Maryland Railroad, used from around late 1800's to the 1970's. I owned a cabin across from Point Lookout in WV for a long time & in the 70's & 80's, before the gates, we would drive through these tunnels! Stickpile tunnel was at a "stop" on the Western Maryland Railroad as it was the site of a small town that supported the apple harvesting industry.
🤘🏾I’ve been Camping Green Ridge for yrs It’s my Favorite place! The first time we Noticed that Tunnel headed to Bonds Landing it didn’t have a Gate and we were able to walk through it to the other side!

When I was 12 or 13, I got lost in those woods above the Paw Paw Tunnel. I was following the trail back over the top of the mountain and took a wrong turn. Was out there in 100+ degrees with no water for nearly 4 hours. Grandparents wanted to kill me for ruining that day.
@@DirtRoadTherapy Yeah, I know. The trail had a rock with an arrow that pointed where to go. I missed the arrow due to moss and the path looked like it was correct so I kept heading straight. Next thing I knew, I was no longer on a trail. The worst part of the whole ordeal was I was wearing camo. But I was the closest to nature I had ever been, I came face to face with a wild deer that was so close I could have pet it.
Awesome. Another one of my favorite places to camp and explore. I recognized certain places like Cliff Road but there are so many new places to go in the GRSF that I have never seen! Thanks for the inspiration to go back again. I can see the value in getting OnX Offroad so that you don’t get lost, but also because you can use it to find neat places to visit. Cheers!
Awesome! I randomly met 2 people last time I was there who were visiting for the first time because they saw this video. It only had about 4,000 views then. I can only imagine how many people have visited now since seeing this that it has almost 10x the views.
Beautiful country. Making memories on a great weekend adventure. The singer in the tunnel was a little odd - would probably have creeped me out a bit. However, here in Nashville, there is a gentleman who plays his Sousaphone in one of the road tunnels in the area because he enjoys the acoustics and full sound. He typically does it around rush hour which brightens people's days as they sit in traffic.
Have explored most of dirt roads in green ridge in assessing all campsites :) Love it! Was coming in to make sure you tried site 65 next time, but see others suggesting the same, and that yiu have already camped there. Also, check with ranger station, I think I recall them having info on the large number of historical cemetaries in the park. Thanks for vid
I spend a week each spring there hunting turkeys. In the summer of 2009, I drove to all 100 campsites to determine which ones I thought I could tow my trailer to and get my trailer set up on. While some of the roads are rough and may require the use of 4-wheel drive, the majority of them are very good roads and are navigable by a normal family car. One of the few forests I have seen managed by professionals long term. Every year they will cut certain stands in the forest to maintain a healthy forest. There for a while there were a lot of problems with people driving everywhere on 4 wheelers (not everywhere as in on every road, but everywhere as in hold my beer while I go crashing through the underbrush from this road to the next road 2 miles away). A lot of these people would camp without a permit, or when they did have a permit, they would refuse to vacate when their permit expired. There was also a lot of issues with wild partying, drug use, and drunk driving. On two occasions I was forced to get DNR police involved. Now you are not allowed to use offroad vehicles in the forest and they are pretty good with enforcement. That seems to have resolved the issues.
@@Mikedwon Western Maryland is nice, and there is some private property scattered throughout the forest, however, there are some down sides. It is in Allegheny county (not sure if I spelled that right), which is the poorest county in the state. On top of that, the state is dominated by the politics of Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Montgomery County, and Prince Georges County. The legislature tries to compete with California as to who can be stupider. The only reason I live in the state is because of work.

Shot my first dear, In Green Ridge, and it happens to be a buck. You used to be able to drive four wheelers and dirt bikes here , but maryland stopped that. It's a cool forested area.
There’s one right near my house, so I had to go down the rabbit hole on it a few years ago. Look on YT for exploring AT&T long lines bunkers sometime. There’s ones that had whole Detroit V8 2 stroke diesel generators in them, 4 stories underground 😳
We camped there is the 80's. There's some remote camp sites. We stayed at site G1, it's about a 45 minute drive on gravel, after you've entered the park.
Nice to see good back roads. Most of the good trails in the Jersey Pine Barrens have been overused and abused that even the Forest Service Brush trucks can't get through without ending up high centered in the ruts left by high wheel mud trucks and buggies.
Yeah I was leaning towards creepy myself. You can hear me tell Aspen to get behind me as we got closer. At first I thought the guy was pushing a bike but he was just holding onto the railing the whole way as he approached. He had a backpack and was holding something in a towel. If you pause right at 35:45 you can see it. We didn't die and it sure made the experience unique!
We have windmills around Keyser WV…. And just north of Cumberland MD. I have to stop up there and take a look. I am a ham radio operator and I activate parks for POTA. Looks like good spot to throw up an antenna! I had 2008 Rubicon…. Unfortunately I sold it.
So I just happened to come upon your video and I love it! My sister and I played in the PawPaw tunnel when we were kids! My grandmother’s brother and his family had a house on the top of the mountain that runs alongside the tunnel! We would go there and visit and sit on the front porch swing and be afraid of falling off and roll down the mountain! My aunt told me their grandfather died there in the tunnel and the way they knew who he was, was by his wedding band. The last time I was there, the walkway was very rough and there was a rattlesnake at the end of the tunnel so we turned around. This was told to us by another person coming back. Also when you found the cemetery, I was a little excited bc there’s a cemetery off Rt. 9 by the name of, Kearns cemetery. We have several family members buried there and we tried to get up the road, but a tree had fallen across the road. Dang! Our family had a house in the town of PawPaw where we stayed occasionally and it was an old funeral parlor! Crazy! And we had another family member that lived near the RR tracks. I spent some wonderful summers there and will always cherish those memories.
Thanks for responding especially so quickly. My husband and I found the road that went to the top of the mountain where our house was and of course it’s gone. It was a hunting area at that time and we were unaware. Oops. It was very sad to see what use to be our families land and then sold to the state I believe. The road was the Mueller road I believe. Been camping here for about 10 years! This spot used to be a super secret prior to covid…now if you’re not up there by Thursday PM during the spring and fall, you’ll be hard pressed to find a site! It is a great park though.
I've been hearing about this place, but I haven't seen any good video of the trails...until now! Thanks to you, I know that I need to bump this place up on the list of priorities. Approximately how long is the trail system there?
Awesome! There's enough there to fill 2 or more days if you take it slow and explore on foot. Depends somewhat on the season you go, in the summer there is a swimming hole, there are tons of amazing camp sites, and you can get down to the river which I didn't really show. I've added a few cool featured trails into onX Offroad
yo Im not far from y'all! I take my supermoto out there for rips when it's been a long day haha. always fun to go from on road to off road then finish back up on road for the way home
He likely found a vent for the tunnel. Especially back in steam power days you would ideally want a vent so the smoke wouldn't be forced from one end of the tunnel to the other.
I cleaned point look out to and seen a bear in the clearing on the other side of the river. And also found a huge rattle snake about 20 yards past point look out.

@@DirtRoadTherapy I've lived here in Little Orleans for over twelve years now and Bill's is definitely kid friendly. Heck, our Parish Priest, Father Jack, frequents the place after Mass on Saturdays. Don't know where you got that idea from but it's not true. Heck, my first experience at Bill's was back in 1971 as a Boy Scout hiking the C&O Canal Trail as a teenager.

A stock SUV would be fine! If it’s been wet, avoid the area near Bond’s Landing, there are a number of mandatory stream crossings and that’s where the rutted and muddy areas are. Everything on higher ground with gravel will be perfect fine
It’s in the panhandle near the WV border and the Potomac River. You need a permit to camp, that’s what we were doing at the very beginning of the episode-getting our permit at the office
When we were there, you drop money in a box, and took a tag off the board so they'd know you're in there. That was years ago. You are on your own there. We spent a week and so no other people the whole time.

I love greenridge forest! It’s my favorite camping spot for sure!!! Also great for sky watching with telescopes/astrophotography

I've been hearing about this place, but I haven't seen any good video of the trails...until now! Thanks to you, I know that I need to bump this place up on the list of priorities. Approximately how long is the trail system there?
Awesome! There's enough there to fill 2 or more days if you take it slow and explore on foot. Depends somewhat on the season you go, in the summer there is a swimming hole, there are tons of amazing camp sites, and you can get down to the river which I didn't really show. I've added a few cool featured trails into onX Offroad

yo Im not far from y'all! I take my supermoto out there for rips when it's been a long day haha. always fun to go from on road to off road then finish back up on road for the way home
He likely found a vent for the tunnel. Especially back in steam power days you would ideally want a vent so the smoke wouldn't be forced from one end of the tunnel to the other.

I cleaned point look out to and seen a bear in the clearing on the other side of the river. And also found a huge rattle snake about 20 yards past point look out.

I appreciate that. I’d love to check it out sometime but I’ve heard it’s not “kid friendly” is that true? I can’t see going back to this place again without my son. We checked out Locust Post Brewery last time which was great
@@DirtRoadTherapy I've lived here in Little Orleans for over twelve years now and Bill's is definitely kid friendly. Heck, our Parish Priest, Father Jack, frequents the place after Mass on Saturdays. Don't know where you got that idea from but it's not true. Heck, my first experience at Bill's was back in 1971 as a Boy Scout hiking the C&O Canal Trail as a teenager.

Do you need a modified suv to drive thru these roads or a stock SUV would do?
A stock SUV would be fine! If it’s been wet, avoid the area near Bond’s Landing, there are a number of mandatory stream crossings and that’s where the rutted and muddy areas are. Everything on higher ground with gravel will be perfect fine

It’s in the panhandle near the WV border and the Potomac River. You need a permit to camp, that’s what we were doing at the very beginning of the episode-getting our permit at the office
When we were there, you drop money in a box, and took a tag off the board so they'd know you're in there. That was years ago. You are on your own there. We spent a week and so no other people the whole time.
