    I love this theory.
Another which i also love is when JK says find his time, he means finds his younger self.
And when he say I can't call ya, I can't touch ya, I can't hold ya...He means his younger self. And then at the end he says he will because he's going to find his old self again and make time for himself.

i’m so happy & fascinated by the (positive/insightful) discussion that jungkook’s my time performance has sparked again after being out in the world for 8 months. i love the nuances that both lyrics, concept & performance hold and i overall just enjoyed the absolute power & confidence he radiates. in a way, it’s like jungkook claiming some control back after losing it for a long time, after being made to fit a standard, after losing his childhood innocence to stardom. he is one of the most captivating performers out there & i’m very grateful he got to finally perform this masterpiece for us.

As always, you never disappoint. Your explanation made me feel like crying for Jungkook. The natural process of growing up is just something we all take for granted. And, generally speaking, fans typically are not going into any deep thought about what their idols may be missing out on in life since their public image is all about celebrity, beautiful people and lifestyles, and fame and fortune. Those things are longed for and envied by the masses and not much thought or concern is given to the high price that must be paid in order to be successful within the cutthroat entertainment industry. It's a tough industry for adults to navigate. So just imagine how much tougher it has to be for youth, some starting as young as 11 years old as trainees.

    • @AwakeningWings
      @AwakeningWings 3 года назад +9

I agree, it's a sad thing to see youth, especially in the entertainment industry grow up in that environment. But remember Jungkook had the other members to look out for him. Think about the artists that have no one or barely anyone that genuinely cares for them. People such as haters and people that show envy don't know the real sacrifice it takes to make it in the music/entertainment industry. Literally the blood, sweat, and tears.
I felt Jungkook's pain when I first listened to the whole album. "My Time," is one of the songs that really got me. I felt all of their pain and struggles in the Map of the Soul:7 album. My heart ached for them, especially because I truly understand. I'm an artist (painting/drawing/animation) and it’s tough. Life is a constant struggle for artists.
And this is why BTS cares so much for the youth. They know the difficulties and they want to help the youth. That's always been a part of their goal as well as creating healing music to help everyone.

I agree that he is telling the "I can't call you, can't hold you...." part to his relationships (that is family, friends, even exes of course) and that's what it pains me the most, I feel that part is so sad not only for him but for all the people that love (or loved) him because when he sings and yes you know yes you know it's almost like a surrender, like there's nothing they can do about it. So when the I will call you.. I will... comes waaahh it's so beautiful it gives me so much hope and that feeling of happy endingness hahaha I adore this song because it really touches your heart and has an amazing story telling feeling. Wonderful explanation as always! Got me thinking about the projections of himself and they way they were slightly out of sync, I thought it was a technical issue at first but now I'm convinced it was a deliberate artistic choice to see projections of JK slightly lagging behind the real JK. That'll teach me to focus on more than his unbuttoned shirt...

My personal interpretation for the "I can't call you, and I can't hold you" is about finding time for himself as Jeon Jeongguk. Because time is also something that we can't call, hold, touch, see, hear, etc. It's not something that can be perceived through senses, we can only experience it. Live through it. Here, he as Jeon Jeongguk can't experience that, so how can he make sense of the lost time? He doesn't know yet, but he will as he promised by the end of the song.
IMO the hardest lyrics to interpret is "One time for the present, two times for the past. Happy that we met each other." I wonder if the two times phrase is related to the idioms two-timing which supposedly means being dishonest or deceitful with your partner, but maybe, in this case, we can use it as being dishonest with himself. This also helps to make sense the next lyrics as his real self and persona finally meet and become one. He accepts that he experiences time differently (two times at once), and he'll learn to enjoy it (one time).

Thank you for this, I was hoping someone would do an analysis on his performance. Me, my mom, and older brother were discussing this, and when you think about it, the whole performance is very correspondant to the song overall.
The delayed projections representing how he feels like he's in a different time and space, JK moving in real-time, but his projections lagging behind him...not synced up together.
Him walking from one stage to another with cameras on him; his almost every move being caught on camera like a movie and being in the public eye.
Having to grow up fast, being in the spotlight ever since he was a kid. Not being able to do the things people his age would normally be doing.
Also him being surrounded with clock imagery, time seems to follow him wherever he goes, until he finally embraces it, that he will make time for himself one day and be able to start anew. The sultryness of it, I would say probably would show his growth from a young teenager into a mature adult man.
His performance was amazing, I'm honestly so proud of him.

That stuff is great and all but what I saw was his sadness and pain. And that dark look in his eyes was captivating. Also, the choreography really made me feel his pain and that darkness.
Edit: I had to make some edits, I didn't like how I worded somethings.

    • @boomza821

It's supposed to be exactly that a diversion, distraction.
It's always like that- them looking perfect on stage, while hiding so much pain. That's what everybody wants to see and he gave them exactly what they wanted. His appearance contrasts the lyrics a LOT which gives of the illusion that nobody is really hearing how he's feeling- all eyes are always on him yet no one really cares. He is seen as this perfect handsome doll, nothing more (people praising his body and appearance, hair, tattoos, etc.).
Also the sexy, provocative choreography could symbolize loss of innocence, but I noticed it looked quite bitter and even brash - him showing so much of his body (almost like serving it to the audience) and giving everything to the performance, leaving him with literally nothing else to give.

Agreed, the tracks are split up into sections on the album. The archetypes of the soul are explored. The human psyche is the whole mind, including the conscious and the unconscious. Jung's theory states that each person's psyche is comprised of three components: 1. Ego, 2. Personal unconscious, and 3. Collective unconscious. The four main archetypes described by Jung as well as a few others are the Persona, the Shadow, the anima and animus, and the self. The other various archetypes include the father, the mother, the child, the wise old man, the hero, the maiden, and the trickster. Many different archetypes may overlap or combine at any given time.
So the first few tracks- Intro: PERSONA, Boy with Luv, Make it Right, Jamais Vu, and Dionysus are part of the consciousness or the outside world/outer aspects of the soul; the persona. I do agree, BTS and ARMY are one and the same. (The Ego is also a part of the Persona.)
The second few tracks- Interlude: Shadow, Black Swan, Filter, My Time, Louder than bombs are part of the unconsciousness or the inner parts of the soul; the shadows. (The Anima and Animus are also part of the Shadow. The anima/animus represents the “true self” rather than the image we present to others and serves as the primary source of communication with the collective unconscious.)
Then leads to them exploring after that rebirth as you mentioned.
(This part of my comment I wrote before I got to 3:04 in your video. The part you mentioned for the "My Time" track.)
When I think about the track “My Time,” it’s like Jungkook is talking about his personal unconscious. The personal unconscious is part of the soul that we all have. Personal unconsciousness is all the information that is present with an individual’s mind. It’s the portion of each individual’s unconscious that contains the repressed/forgotten thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, and ideas that make us who we are. Without a personal unconscious, we wouldn’t be who we are and couldn’t become who we were meant to be. It helps us approach the world from our unique perspective. In Jung’s studies, the "personal unconscious" must be integrated into the conscious ego for individuation to happen. This is how Jung defined it. “Everything of which I know, but of which I am not at the moment thinking; everything of which I was once conscious but have now forgotten; everything perceived by my senses, but not noted by my conscious mind; everything which, involuntarily and without paying attention to it, I feel, think, remember, want, and do; all the future things which are taking shape in me and will sometime come to consciousness; all this is the content of the unconscious… Besides these, we must include all more or less intentional repressions of painful thoughts and feelings. I call the sum of these contents the ‘personal unconscious’.”
The whole “Map of The Soul:7” album is like the personal unconscious of all 7 members. In a way, it’s a collective of all of their souls, right.
The third few tracks- ON, UGH!, Zero O’clock, Inner Child, Friends, Moon, Respect, We are Bulletproof: The Eternal, and OUTRO: Ego are all part of the Ego of the soul. (The Persona is also a part of the Ego, like on Carl Jung’s in the actual map/diagram of the soul. The Ego also represents the conscious mind.)
They explored all of this, I think with the new album “BE” it’s more about the “Self.” They haven’t explored much of the “Self” or should I say the “true self.” And it is a “self-produced” album :)
The self is an archetype that represents the unified unconsciousness and consciousness of an individual. Jung often represented the self as a circle, square, or mandala. Jung suggested there are two different centers of personality, the ego makes up the center of the consciousness, but it is the self that lies at the center of personality. Personality encompasses not only consciousness but also the ego and the unconscious mind.
Read more about it here: www.verywellmind.com/what-are-jungs-4-major-archetypes-2795439 (I just wanted to share this, if anyone wants to know about Carl Jung’s archetypes.) And this one: discoveryourself.com/the-personal-and-collective-unconscious/

Wow, again. We're always ending up here, aren't we? I watched Jungkook's performance of "My Time" yesterday (Oct. 14th); I just found a video of it randomly on youtube. (Someone posted it on youtube. I wanted to watch the whole concert in order, but then I was thinking maybe I should just watch "My Time" anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️) And you did an analysis and breakdown of it. I had no idea you would do an analysis of the “My Time” performance. Thank you for doing one on this track, it's one of my favorites from the album.
These are the thoughts and observations I had on the performance. I wanted to get this out before I watched your analysis and read anyone else comments.
Part of Jungkook's choreography reminded me of the performance he did for 2019 MMA in the water. His solo performance to the track "Save Me." That must have been important too since they added that to the 2019 MMA performance, which was about Map of the Soul things. And that's fitting because "Save Me" is a dark/sad track and it means a lot to BTS. (Today, Oct. 15, I saw the MMA performance again; just Jungkook's part hours ago.) You know the part where he's moving on one knee. (It's also your edit at 0:24.) Jungkook's choreography also reminded me of BTS's Japanese song "Let Go." It looks like some of the choreography for Jungkook's "My Time" is similar to the choreography for "Let Go." (That just makes this even more sad and bittersweet.)
I felt like there were things in the performance that needed to be explained. I noticed a lot going on such as the clock projected on the actual stage Jungkook is standing on. And the points of light around him, like a cage much like those lights in 'Black Swan' Art Film video. I know the lights in the “My Time” performance are pointing and projecting to the numbers of the clock. I wondered what time the clock was showing. Also, those gears of the clock look really cool. Those lights also reminded me of Hoseok’s performance at the 2019 MMA too; those beams of light were part of his performance.
I know that the song is about his time as a youth, trainee, and idol. He feels like he lost his time as a youth. He grew up too fast; something I have in common with him. (I meant the growing up too fast, is what I have in common with Jungkook.)
But it could also be about the Map of the Soul storyline, with him being not good or doing well since he probably blames Jin for something. (You know what I mean. I don’t want to accidentally spoil anything.) His shadows seem really dark. I also felt the pain of the “My Time” performance; I felt it all. That dark look in his eyes was so captivating. It also explains why Jungkook is dressed that way, with the dark/shadow look in both day’s performances. The all-black outfit and the red outfit. Jungkook looks matured in the performance. I also wondered if the colors mean something like with Jimin’s performance of “Filter;” the white and red. (It may not mean anything. This is just my thoughts on it.)
I was thinking about this a few days ago. It’s like the loss of the inner child or a part of Jungkook he feels was sort of taken from him. That’s why “My Time” is part of the “Map of the Soul: 7” album. It ties in with many of the other tracks. I knew there was something to the track “My Time.” Why would they include it in the album if it wasn’t important, right? Considering it has to do with Jungkook's soul and shadow.

You're right about the collective unconscious. And in the shadow of time and space not existing. I don't think it's just the collective unconscious. What about the personal unconscious? (I wrote about it in my earlier comment.)
Since you've mentioned time, I remember in the "Love Yourself Speak Yourself final in Seoul" ending VCR with Jungkook holding a watch and looking out a window. Jungkook reverses the time on the watch and all of BTS look out that window. Also, remember when I mentioned about their new album "BE" and that the 0am EST reminded me of Zero O'Clock. That has to be important, why would it be there? 🤔 Time has always been a part of BTS's concepts 🕰⏳
The lyrics in the "My Time" track: "One time for the present (one time)...Two times for the past (two times)...Happy that we met each other" actually makes sense now. The past and present meeting each other. It's talked about a lot in their storyline :)
So that's what time it was in Jungkook's "My Time" performance, 6/13. The date of BTS's debut and Jungkook's new beginning. That reminds me of Jungkook's track "Begin" from the WINGS album. That must mean the new album is about what BTS's thinks they are missing. The part of BTS that needs to be found again; the "true self." Isn't that what Namjoon was saying for the "BE" album. To show the genuineness of their music like they always did.

amazing analysis! such a sad song and performance, what a pity some people aren't even interested to learn more about it and just oversexualize it. one of their best songs imo.

thank u for this! i absolutely loved my time’s performance and i think some people focused too much on the choreo itself instead of the overall performance and the message it wants to convey. even the choreo i see it as a sign of maturity. i think everything was very well planned out

    Love this!
But I'd love to learn what you think of Jin's "Moon" from MOTS: 7, as Jin used "The Little Prince" Concept which are full of symbolisms & meanings, so unexpectedly deep given that this was thought to be a children's book at first.
How Jin finally did get off the asteroid B613 (NOT the moon!), which could symbolize Before June 2013, his Debut Day? Then went on STAGE to assume the Persona of JIN.
That's why the lyrics said, Before I met you, I didn't even have a name?
Also mentioning his worries about the Earth (ARMY) seeing his wounds, his SHADOW?
Then the roses and foxes--teaching the Little Prince about relationships & the price he has to pay to have & nurture them?

I really enjoyed your content. I realise English is probably your second language and you speak it very well. I just want to be kind here but please review how you drag out the end of a sentence. Very often it sounds a bit like you almost sing the last word. It’s very unnatural to an English speakers ear, or mine at least. It made it a little hard to listen to. I for sure want to encourage you and possibly see you
accumulate more English subscribers. It’s a little thing and easily fixed and you have every right to ignore my comment of course. I’m happy your video showed up in my feed. I am definitely Army and love that performance by JK. I wish you all the very best 💜💯
