      Ah! So after all that looking down the nose and casting aspersions on those without the requisite qualifications and/or experience, to expound on (in this case) military matters but a few years back it was philosophy (but applies to any subject, more generally) are we to presume that Dr Vexler has in fact an MA in International Relations and War and is, it transpires, a military veteran of 27 years, retiring as a Brigadier? 😏😏😎 Mostly kidding, Vlad, does us all good to be kept humble, I think, myself absolutely included by the way....😉🥳Hope you're feeling passable😗

      What a silly use of semantics. Long-range strikes are an escalation, but pretending they’re anything other than a necessary response to Putin’s aggression is absurd. Euphemisms like 'self-defense' only obscure the truth: this is about meeting aggression with the strength needed to protect what’s right. The ATACMS hammer of justice is the only language Putin understands. He has spilled enough innocent blood. Watching passively while Ukrainians die fighting for the freedoms we all cherish is not an option.

    • @billybobthornton9668
      @billybobthornton9668 14 часов назад

      I'm curious, what does winning look like to you?
      I've generally been of the view that the war must necessarily be attritional; therefore, incrementalism reigns supreme because the war is only winnable for the West if it's drawn out, which is conversely why all the initial Russian calculations were for a hard fast attack to force Zelensky to flee and leave a vacuum.
      The issue with this approach is that it puts the onus on Russia to call it a day at some point, but the likelihood is that Putin becomes increasingly desperate to salvage some kind of victory from the conflict which may then lead to a sudden escalation on his part.
      What would your solution be? A large increase in Western support which runs the risk of Russia involving it's other more powerful allies?
      Forcing Russia out of Ukraine militarily seems to me to require a massive push from the West, one which is unlikely to be left unchallenged by Russia and the other modern "Axis" powers and it's that risk which concerns me the most.
      I think slow and steady has to be the approach to this conflict, as dissatisfying as that is due to the human cost Ukraine has to pay; but, I'd be interested to hear different views because I'm certainly open to them.

      It depends on the type of a nuclear weapon and the target of the strike. If, say, Russia deploys a tactical nuclear device in Ukraine, it does not at all entail a strategic nuclear counterattack against Russia. If it were so, it would immediately trigger a strategic nuclear exchange of mutually catastrophic scale. That’s why they’ve developed what is called a ladder of escalation.

      Now is that a planned and agreed upon strategy of all of 'The West'? Probably not. My guess is, it's more of a 'we all know how this game is being played, so let's avoid admitting moral bankruptcy by not openly admitting to it even amongst ourselves' kinda thing.

When the Kremlin decided to get North Korean troops involved he asked for this. There is something to be said for having saved this for that, so a response beyond our existing support for Ukraine was possible... given that we could guess that Putin might do this at some point.
