      Hey enjoy your content, but I want to say this, nepotism is strong and it can not be understated. Most MBAs internships don't expect you know ANYTHING to get the internship as long you are from the right school. Microsoft, Dell, Facebook, they will get interns with no experience in the industry verse individuals in lesser MBAs with experience in the industry. I learned this after getting my MBA.
      With saying this, if an individual wishes to move up and get an MBA as a check ✔ box, (like me) your MBA ranking, school, etc is irrelevant. However it has to be noted if this is not a check and you wish to have internships, a lesser school will not get the same internship opportunities ie jobs. I do not think it's fair and nepotism is dumb but that's the world of US education. Fyi, my MBA was 25k, did it part time, and became a manager within my first year in graduate school and made 110k in Texas. So yes this is important but industry matters. Like banking is full of douch bags who brag about what school they came from. In my industry pharmaceuticals, people could care less

      Thanks for the comment, Shannon! All great points and mostly agree. School can matter ALOT depending on your goals and some companies recruit heavily at the top schools with less importance on relevant work experience (although they don't discount that entirely of course...if someone has a top ranked MBA AND relevant work experience, then that's the ticket).
      And good on you for not going into crazy debt for the MBA and still coming out of it with a good outcome!

      Hi Gerald - I've got another video on top 5 online MBA programs, with Boston University as #2, iMBA #1. Boston is a great choice as well, just didn't seem to have any selection of specializations.

  • @anthrop7998

    Do you have any opinions on University of North Alabama ? I was thinking of going to there because they seem flexible and have many specializations. It is either that or a Cal State online program, but the ones I saw don't have the specialization and are twice as much $$$$

    • @RichardWalls
      @RichardWalls  3 года назад +1

      Hi - no strong opinions, but the program looks fine to me. Accredited, good price point, etc. If it's of a similar ranking, less expensive than another program, and seems to fit with your career goals, then UNA is worth considering.

    Great tiered system to vet one's need across the spectrum of obtaining and MBA. Thing is these days is, are things based on the purity of the higher education or the network for validity on a specific school a person chooses? On one hand a person can be an ideal candidate but if their school ranking is an issue that can make them neglected on an unbiased hiring pool.

    • @RichardWalls
      @RichardWalls  2 года назад +1

      Hi Dre - thanks for the comment! One of the more important elements is the network of peers and alumni in the school. So an established university that has a good reputation (doesn't need to be a top 10 business school) that has been around for awhile, will be a good option as there should be a good number of students with whom to connect. But if you're applying to a company where you don't have a connection, that will be quite a bit more difficult, unless you have a degree from a top school. Even then, it'd be difficult.

    Sounds like a “Management Consulting” approach to evaluating MBAs, great job!
    I’d be curious to hear your thoughts about Warwick Business School Online MBA, which is ranked #1 from FT among the online MBAs, has a reasonable tuition (still higher than the iMBA at the Gies College of Business), and provides two compulsory weeks in presence either in Warwick or in London (there are a few elective courses you can take in presence as well). All from a top 30 Business School worldwide. Not sure about your take on it but it sounds like a great mix of flexibility, physical presence and value for brand.

    • @RichardWalls
      @RichardWalls  3 года назад +2

      Thanks Andrea! Warwick has actually popped up on my list of strong international MBA programs. Very good option! Although only drawback is that there's not any "clear" specialization track, just some electives. Not a deal breaker, but always nicer when you can supplement an MBA with specializations to differentiate from all the other MBA degree holders out there.

    Nice, I did 1 one of these myself prior to the video releasing, and the factor I assigned the most value to was the average salary after completing the program. I was able to find these for many schools looking for "MBA outcomes", whether the outcomes posted by the university are 100% true is debatable. But still it gave me a fairly good idea

    • @RichardWalls
      @RichardWalls  3 года назад +2

      Nice! I'd say whatever the school reports is accurate, but doesn't tell the full story. I think we often hear about the success stories (the most successful ones in particular), but not about the students that didn't land the opportunities they expected.
      That said, there are alot of variables at play. Where did you end up going, if I may ask?

    • @RichardWalls
      @RichardWalls  3 года назад +3

      @@kennylim4764 Both schools are great - triple accredited, well ranked, etc. Both programs appear strong from a curriculum and experience (i.e. immersion component like international trips). I believe ESSEC-Mannheim gets the win on ranking, but I leaned Manchester as it is less expensive for what I'd consider to be a similarly valued brand.
      As an entrepreneur, rankings are not quite as important as it would be for someone looking to land a corporate job where companies recruit from specific universities. Seeing as both universities can get you what you need, Manchester wins on price.

    I disagree with the specialization portion of your MBA scorecard. People can specialize on their own through certifications, licenses, and work experience. The courses taken at school doesn't play much of a factor in the hiring once you're in middle to late career. Employers will look at relevant experiences and credentials. However, specialization are factor in when you are wanting to pivot to a different industry, but the chance increases with some experience (e.g. internships)
