- A tribute to Vincent Price's gloriously camp performance as Baka in The Ten Commandments.
I have corrected some of director DeMille's mise-en-scène errors by placing Baka in centre of frame.
Good old Hollywood blockbuster, with so many great actors. We don't have movies like this anymore.
I remember seeing a 'Behind The Scenes' video of the making of the movie. They had something like 20,000 extras, basically hiring the people, man, women, and child, and animals in every village for miles around. The planning and logistics of getting everybody to show up, on time, for the big scenes, was amazing, as also was their feeding and watering.
And that's why we don't have movies like that anymore.
@@WildBikerBill "There's no food in the granaries...." "You don't look any leaner!"
"Because of Moses there is no wheat in the temple granary"...."You don't look any leaner". 🤣🤣🤣
Oh brother here we go again... hmmmm
He didn’t have to do that 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Shade
No I'm Moses
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
“are you a master builder or a master butcher?“
“ a man who limits his interests limits his life “
I’ve been around for over half a century, and never realized this was Vincent Price.
Closing in on 50. You are not alone.
me either
That's how great of an actor VP is . He's much more than a horror guy.
@@theprinceoftides6836 Catch him in "Master of the World" based on a story by Jules Verne!
Probably because he shaved off his mustache for the part.
This movie STILL has a ton of leadership points to never forget. This movie is like fine wine that can only improve over infinite time.
The details about custom etc made it very impossible for other to beat
Debra Paget (the water girl) is still alive. She is 90.
Debra's character, Lilia, was not in the Bible.
Debra was blue eyed ( and so was John Derek) but Debra and John wore brown contact lens for their roles as Hebrew slaves
At 2:06 Moses: “what the gods cannot digest will not sour in the belly of a slave”. Vincent Price’s expression: Oooooooooooo!
😂😂😂
Yes, I love that line….& it’s quite applicable to present day situations & scenarios!
It's at 2:03.
Well if it isn't Professor Ratigan himself. Good God did Vincent Price (may he rest in peace) have an excellent acting range.
He also did another evil animal character in here comes Peter Cottontail particularly iorntail
@@jamessparkman6604 and don't forget the villain Zig Zag, from The Princess and the Cobbler.
@@georgecasden555 did you know that that film was his last film role before he died?
He worked with everyone from Helen Hayes to the Brady Bunch! That is pretty broad, at that.
Charlton Heston’s dominating screen presence is in full array in this film.
And so was Hamilton the 1966 Columbia remake. For those who had seen the 1966 remake surely they would have mistaken one from the other. Both actors looked and talked the same as so were the two versions..both the 1956 Paramount original and the 1966 Columbia remake
@@user-kg6tf4qv4v I thought Heston and Brenner were very strong characters and made this movie one of the greatest of all time !
"Blood makes poor mortar..." Love that. 👍🏽😇
I could flick a fly from my horses ear without breaking the rhythm of his stride🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👍
I wonder who wrote that line?....Or did Vincent Price "ad-lib that line"😉
I bought CD of Ten Commandments...and watched it frequently , watched it with my grandsons & granddaughters. First time i ' ve watched thus film us when i was 9yrs old,now im 70.
Did you tell your grandchildren these people were black?
Same here.
Don't you mean DVD?
It's strange you didnt see the 1966 Columbia remake. I saw it in 1968 and am 65 now ( i was born in 1959) youre a bit older than me thus i presume you might have seen the Hamilton version ,you just have forgotten after all these years.
There is no other movie that i have seen as many times as this one. Cecil B. DeMille's greatest achievement.
You mean you've not seen or at least know about the 1966 Columbia remake of the Ten Commandments ?
The actor as Moses in the 1966 remake was Hamilton.
I wish that Ten Commandments be shown in schools, universities in their free time,in wide screen..for now generations.
I showed Prince of Egypt at schools after showing Joseph. They loved them. Even showed them the rugrats version of Moses story
For what purpose exactly? I like the film too but, why just don't see it in freetime?
forever classic. non can challenge. always like this classic
Back in the 1970’s when I was in 4th grade. They did show this in a schoool theater and all of grade schoolers watched it.
This is probably one of the best films of that erra in this genera(Hollywood Bible Stories, cliche, fantasy).. hands down... loved it when I first saw it.. as a kid on TV..
Genre
I've seen some of the others from that era such as David & Bath-Sheba (1951), Sins of Jezebel (1954), Ben Hur (1959) & Esther & The King (1961). Some are maybe not entirely Biblically correct but they are all wonderful.
Super! All these years and I never paid attention to Baka, just the principals.
My favorite line by Vincent Prince in _The Ten Commandments,_
is when he offers Lilia wine. He describes it with great relish
in his voice as "the blood of Thracian grapes." 🍇🍷
I can already here this in his voice
Lol I particularly loved when he had Joshua tied up and about to whip him for saving Lillia and told him.. . You've seen me used my whip, I can flick a fly from my horses ear without breaking the rhythm of his stride. Epic line
4:32 “Your eyes had best find a deliverer Dathan, or you will have no eyes!”
A brilliant line! 😂😂
It is one of the particularities of this film that some of the best lines were given to the « bad guys ».
Who can forget Yul Brynner as Pharaoh saying « Better to die in battle with a god than to live in shame ».
The entire movie was spoken poetry.
The city he builds shall bear my name, the woman he loves shall bear my child, so it shall be written, so it shall be done.
I sent thank you Father God in Jesus name amen amen
Thank you for me being the messenger that I am for you in Jesus name amen amen
Probably the greatest Biblical film ever made.
It is without a doubt , I dare anybody to name another biblical movie better.
Tak bardzo chciałabym o czym mówią wspaniali aktorzy w obsadzie filmu
Vincent Price is a well-known star of thrillers and he was in "The Great Mouse Detective", "The Thief & the Cobbler" & as Irontail in "Here Comes Peter Cottontail"
Vincent Price....one of cinema's greatest villain actor!
Only fitting to see his character slain by one of cinema's greatest hero actor!
Great movie. Must have watched it well over a dozen times in my life. They would play it on tv just before Christmas every year.
We see it every Easter weekend on t.v. because Passover and Easter occur near the same time.
Really? It usually plays on Easter for many of us. I've never seen it pre Christmas, only Easter. But hey, good for you.
Never at Christmas.
"You foolish, STUPID man."
Such delicious venom behind that line.
5:54
1:33 My GOD! Three acting LEGENDS (Heston, Brynner & Price) together! Gives me shivers!
I wish Hollywood was still like this 😍
Believe it or not. Vincent Price and the actress who played “Lydia” Debra Paget would be in two more movies together after this. Again his character treats her badly in both of them.
She must have loved sharing the screen with Price.
No, one else could have played Baka, but Vincent Price, he so captures the decadence, arrogance, that might have been empyreal ancient Egypt of the bible...
Moses: There are no strangers among those who seek God's mercy.
A brilliant movie. My all time favorite.
Debra Paget was a fox. She still is.
John Derek certainly was handsome in his younger years…What a face!
Am I the only one who feels a slight tingling up her spine when Baka mentions using his whip?
😮
“You better get over here and do as I say, SEE?” Edward G. Robinson
"Naya, Nobody makes a Mug Outta Dathan or you'll get Rubbed Out! "
I can still remember that wonderful line said by Sophia to either Dorothy or Rose in the Golden Girls. " What the hell was Edward G. Robinson doing in the Ten Commandments."
Heheh, a mobster being Goshen's chief Hebrew overseer? It would've been priceless to hear that line!
Wow I had no idea that Vincent Price would be in this movie I never noticed not once
“Your eyes best find the deliverer Dathan or you will have no eyes” rofl 4:34
Great actors.... . May their souls rest in peace... What a pity... modern humans do not know the value of movie and future..
Ah the History Channel. We can learn so much.
A great story and a phenomenal motion picture 👍
Love Price but Debra Paget---wow!!
Truth. Plus Anne Baxter and Yvonne de Carlo. The Ten Commandments is chock full of powerful actors and natural born stunners.
Isaiah 19:2
[2]And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.
La cantidad de luminarias en esta película es increíble. Como el guion, los efectos y todo lo demás. Debería ser considerada patrimonio de la humanidad.
My family the world this is what you should know in Jesus name and Jesus name amen amen
The beauty of our women has become but a curse!!!
Thank you in Jesus name amen amen
Vincent price always plays the bad guy R.I.P. Vincent price great actor though
NOT ALWAYS.... In Edward Scissorhands he was a good guy, same in Tales of Terror
and then there are a lot more where he wasn't a bad guy
The pharaoh is played by Sir Cedric Hardwicke. I highly recommend The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939) he is brilliant in it as the lusty Chief Justice Claude Frollo.
The Disney version (1996) took great inspiration from this awesome movie.
So I've heard! ^_^ That's really cool! :D
"It is not Treason to want Freedom " - Moses
Vincent is always fun to watch!
wieder gelernt....hätte damals nicht erkannt den schauspieler...danke
This.... movie.... iconic
The ending 😂
Such a versatile actor. He is also the voice of Sir Rattigan in The Great Mouse Detective.
Charlton Heston y Vincent Price que lujo y que leyendas
The thing that still takes me out of the scene with Pharaoh is the toss-away line, "I am Great Pharaoh, but now I have important things to do" would have gone over like a ten ton block of limestone in reality. Still a great movie :)
Pray without ceasing
The casting in this movie is hilarious!
I'm surprise Dathan did say "The Egyptians are gonna Rub Us Out,See, Naya!"
@@jamesalexander5623 IKR? That was hilarious! Casting Edward G. Robinson in that role! 😂 He was probably afraid of being typecast! 😂
Anne Baxter was a hoot!!
Blessed be the LORD my GOD.
Vincent Price's best role .... Shelby Carpenter in "Laura" 1944.
I want Vincent Price to brush my hair with sandalwood 😅
I like the way the Bible tells the story. This is a movie !
This Film is just as "Factual" as the Bible .... It's all made up!
Amen! I love reading my Bible!
It is a great movie though
I like the movie better
Baka in Hebrew means 'weeping' so there is a lot of poignancy in his name!
Vincent price gave won Oscar award of Hollywood where he played Disney’s villian voice role Ratigan in The Great Mouse Detective.
I’m sorry I just keep laughing when I hear his name, because I keep thinking of all the tsunderes I’ve seen an anime XD
“BAKAAAAA”
It would be shocking if Lilia shrieks "Baka no BAKAAAA!" in the film.
That's NOT "mise-en-scene errors", it's Paramount's new VistaVision & veteran DeMille's 1st widescreen effort, he'd already filmed this story as a silent, you've panned & scanned Hollywood legend, this production won Oscar for photography.
I'm afraid you've misunderstood my humour and my intentions. The Ten Commandments is one of my favourite films, its direction and cinematography are spectacular, and it is an astonishingly triumphant swan song for DeMille.
This - MOVIE IS EQUAL To ➖ GONE WITH THE WIND …..!” BOTH GREAT CLASSIC. !” 💃…!”
Wonderful really film
0:27 Vincent playing the "Idiot"
(Really, the character's name *does* mean an 'idiot' in Japanese.)
My friends and I saw this in a theatrical rerelease back around 1972 and we thought the whole film was an outrageous comedy!
Yes. Right. But The second half is só over The top it’s embarrassing. Ridiculous acting
the grandest orgy of unintentional camp ever committed to celluloid.
Most embeciles would, that acid was powerful in the 70s
Says a heathen!
Seen this film 20 X
One of my daddy's favorite movie
I'm sure Vinnie Price welcomed the opportunity to do something other than portray the lead in the grade B horror films he was famous for.
3:22 is this the 1st time thirsty was used in sexual context
That’s also the great Edward G. Robinson with Vincent Price.
Visually as good as any movie ever made but ohhhhhh that purple dialogue. Just awful! I like watching it with mute button on. Brynner really steals it. He's tough minded stubborn and seems far more real than anyone else. Chucks beard does all his work for him.
Heston was a pure hunk. All natural
The Egyptians believed in diversity in employment. Whites, Browns, Blacks, Women, and Jews could be slaves in Egypt. No Asians, but I guess there weren't enough of them conveniently located. Trust diversity!
Tru Dat. The Egyptians R ahead of their time 🤪😜😃.
Stop😂😭
What a God could digest would not sour in the belly of the slaves....
baka : "wine....the wine of beauty" i'm going to use that one.....hehe
3:12 3:41 Baka told water girl that she’s thirsty and called Lilia wine of beauty.
The sun was so bright in ancient Egypt it made everyone look white.
Damn, you made me think of the spongebob episode where he got the ultimate tan.
😀
The sun just made them tan.
You wish
I have Vincent Price's death mask from the Ackerman collection, along with Bela and Boris. I also have his visage on my skin. Mudflowers, no time for tears.
Back when script writers made movies great
I would enjoy gathering that flower ❤️
Vincent Price went camping and then decorated Easter Eggs.
Great movie.
actors before much bether convince real acts, emotion, action, reals holiwood they make again actors like that,is my coustion
Debra Padgett was a major babe!
Die zehn gebote ist so ein schöner Film koke in sehr gerne und ich finde Baka ist der beste von allen finde ihn einfach mega hot🥵 in dem Film
Give support
6:59 that’s a roast 🤣
Dathan…Baka’s assistant….went on to play Baltar in the original battlestar galactica.

Wow I can t believe Vincent price was in this movie , how ironic is like the serpent in the garden of eden .
