Hey all, I edited Monday's video to take the WW2 recipe component out and make it into a standalone video for those that just want the recipe and not all the leg drama! C xxxxx

@@GarouLady Thank you, I managed the stairs up and down on my feet today (slowly) and the pain and swelling is less today which is great news. This time next week I hope to be fully back on my feet xxxx

A good way to stretch the meat to feed more people.

I am curious... you mention vegan mince, but here in the U.S. we don't have that. Would that be the same as Textured Vegetable Protein? This recipe looks like one to try! Thanks for all you do!

Thank you for this. I’ve not said this before, but I look forward to every new video you post. I saw your earlier video and watched this portion again just to spend a few minutes in your company. Your cheerful good nature comes through loud and clear…even when you are struggling/suffering, such as with your knee breakdown. I hope you are feeling much better now!😊

You were saying mince...I was hearing mince meat. Lol
PS...I'll bet a bit of leftover gravy could be used, when mixing, if too dry.
Or some leftover lentils instead of mince. Hmmm, I am going to experiment

Is the normal mince cooked or uncooked ground meat? I was originally thinking leftover cooked meat that has been ground up but now not sure. I still have an old potato bread loaf that needs to be used up.

I would always brown the mince before adding it to the potato and breadcrumbs xxxx

@@1940sExperiment, @GarouLady Almost all the recipes that I've seen using ground meat that are not a loaf are cooked first and the other ingredients and spices are added later.

I know all these recipes were created to keep people from starving but as a diabetic...my pancreas is cringing from the potential abuse. The body turns all those carbs into glucose. Then on top of the diabetes I'm addicted to sugar/carbs. The only way for me to keep that demon/addiction under control is not to feed it. Did the Ministry of Food have diets/recipes for people with known health problems?

They didn't know much about diabetes back then.

I will try and dig out a study I found about a year ago, it showed that Diabetics became healthier during the war (I have no idea how!!!) - it was an official study done immediately after the war using data collected throughout the war. I will try and find this for you. I also have a really nice healthy recipes book that was created during the war, I'll grab that this weekend and see if there are any diabetic recipes in it - Like vegetarians, diabetics were allowed a special extra ration of cheese of 8 oz a week (at one stage it went up to 12 ozs) I think Diabetics pretty much had to modify regular recipes as you would these days xxxx
