Electricity first came to Tibet in 1928. A young Tibetan man was sent by the 13th Dalai Lama to England to learn about electric power. When he returned in 1921, he suggested that the Kashak government of Tibet build a hydroelectric power plant in Duodi gully in the northern suburbs of Lhasa. The equipment used in the power plant, which was made in England, only had a capacity of 92 kW. It had been carried to Lhasa on the back of human porters and horses from India via Nepal. The history of electricity use in Tibet began here. But after 18 years of operation, the only hydropower plant in Tibet was no longer operating normally due to the age of the equipment and Tibet was once again totally without electricity supply.

@1:10 she says "if you are foreigner, you have to have a tour guide". Something that is made mandatory due to a reason not specified in this video.
They want you to see what they want to show. They have something to hide.
I understand that this is a channel made for people to enjoy the exotic destinations with rich cultures, traditions, cuisines etc. But reading through the comments, many of Chinese brothers are trying to paint a very good pictures of themselves as liberators of Tibetans. This isn't the truth. The truth is, China invaded Tibet (so stop calling others colonizers). Our culture and language are completely different.
Anyway I don't blame them, as I believe that they know only what their government fed into their head.
Ask why the Chinese government is so scared of His Holiness the Dalai Lama?
Why is he made to look like a demon by the Chinese media? Why their history textbooks have to spread false propaganda against this monk, who is revered by the rest of the world as a messenger of peace and wisdom?
Most importantly, to the two beautiful travel vloggers, ask yourself why you two weren't allowed to move freely in the region and made to travel with a pre-appointed travel guide?
And tell me if you failed to see the countless number of CCTVs in the Lhasa streets?
****** Paid internet warriors of Chinese govt. : Please don't comment underneath with hate speeches. Can't respond positively to those who can't withstand criticism".*******
Tibet was never a part of China.
As one of our great Choesgyal, Choesgyal Triral (Religious Kings) said "Chinese will be happy in China, Tibetans will be happy in Tibet". Keep it that way.

I was there in June, Lhasa, Shigatse, Karola Pass, Yamdrok, Gyantse, various monasteries (one of the main reasons I went), the Potala, the Norbulingka, the list goes on. The weather was very good, even at 3600m elevation in Lhasa it was upto 28 deg C, but we did see overnight snow on the surrounding mountains to the south of Lhasa. Gyantse was the friendliest place in my opinion, and Shigatse not very friendly. Then back to Chengdu for a few days, then Shanghai, then back to the UK, then back home to Cornwall. Sad to leave, but home is home. We have the Samye Ling Tibetan buddhist monastery in the UK (Eskdalemuir, south Scotland), I used to live and work near it when I was a forest manager near by. I will be visiting next February and staying a few days, nice to be near Tibetan culture again, even if just for a few days. Huge amount of woodland creation in Tibet last year, electric vehicles, massive infrastructure development such as hydro and thermal electricity and national grid, a lot to see and be impressed by. By chance, the Tibetan and Cornish words for 'dog' are almost the same!

Do it! I took a gap year in 2013 after high school and took the silk road from Xi'an to the border of Kazakhstan. I went through Xinjiang and Tibet when both places weren't filled with tourists. It was beautiful. Personally, I preferred the tibetan towns outside of Tibet in Gansu, it is less commercialised. I met so many solo travelers, who I am still friends with today. So decided to solo cycle the whole trip, while others walked and camped along the way. I hitchhiked and took buses and trains. It was an adventure for life, through all religions, landscapes, languages, and cultures. I felt like Marco Polo haha.

I'm going to try to take you on the journey of my reaction and processing of this video.
My gut reaction to seeing this video in my suggested list was instant excitement and curiocity because of my Tibetan identity and my absolute love for travel and food. As I continued to watch, the excitement and curiosity started turning into deep envy and then eventually heart break and anger. As a Tibetan womxn born and raised in exile to a father who had to flee Tibet in the late 50's during China's invasion and occupation, I cannot visit and experience my homeland. As a Tibet-activist I am black-listed - essentially banned. Tibetans in exile today continue to feel this deep sense of intergenerational heartbreak and longing for a home they cannot call their own. Since 1998, there has been more than 165 self immolations for the cause of Tibet. Yes- more than 165 people- monks, nuns, lay people, parents and children as young as 16 have burned their body in protest of China's ongoing genocide of the Tibetan people. The majority of them have called for freedom and the return of our exiled spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama. To this day, Tibetans along with Uyghur Muslims from East Turkistan and Southern Mongolians have not been able to live freely.
It was heart-breaking to watch you travel so care-free (seemingly, I don't know if the off-camera experience differs from what we see here) across my ancestors' lands. Heart-breaking because I will not enjoy the same privelege until Tibetan is Free and Independent. Then came the anger. The fact that what we are watching here is not a true reflection of the reality of life for Tibetans living under the Chinese Communist government's oppressive regime, but simply a beautiful lie. The "tamed" mastiffs indulging tourists with photos are traditionally known for being the fiercest guardogs who are not so gentle and kind to strangers. A lot of what is sacred in Tibet has been reduced to cheap tourist attractions for mainland Chinese tourists to enjoy and local Tibetans to reluctantly survive on.
I know that you are probably a really genuinely nice person who loves to travel and eat. It was nice to see your respectful interactions with the people and your surroundings. However, I think it is really important for your extensive viewership to also be aware of the immense privilege someone like you, has. Going to Tibet is not a simple task- even for the most seemingly apolitical foreigner like yourself. There are so many protocols and laws that need to be abided in order for someone to receive a special visa to Tibet, especially the Tibetan Autonous Region (the TAR is China's way of saying only a portion of INDEPENDENT Tibet will be given this fake "autonomy"). Tibetans living inside Tibetan cannot freely travel between provinces and counties, they need special IDs and permits.
I can definitely keep going, but before I wrap up this comment I'd like to demonstrate my exotic and mystical Tibetan psychic powers by predicting the following:
If enough people see this comment, we will likely witness the wrath of a hurricane of indoctrinated Chinese people who will angrily comment things like "Tibet was always a part of China" or "China freed Tibetan slaves from serfdom" and "you're part of the Dalai clique." Although I'd like to practice my Tibetan Buddhist compassion, I don't think I have to give them the pleasure of having emotional and heated back-and-forths. So I will rest my case here.
