After seven years, an Italian court ruled in favor of Carrisi because Jackson failed to show up to court & Not because they found MJ guilty.
In a follow-up case some months later, the court ruled in favor of Jackson and REJECTED the claim.

I can agree that Michael was not that naïve. According to Michael Jackson biographies, Michael was known to plant controversial things in the media, but they later backfired on him.

This is my favourite MJ Album. It shows a lot of different sides of Michael Jacksons musical genius.
I also love the new jack swing style and the cover artwork is just amazing.

This album is my favorite Michael Jackson album! It's great to see Michael go in a new musical direction with this album and the albums after it. My favorite songs are Who Is It, Why You Wanna Trip on Me, and Can't Let Her Get Away.

This album was great. I never thought at the time that I'd ever see MJ do New Jack Swing. But there you have it. The one thing I think was missing was a ballad by Teddy Riley. He could have brought a lot of the soul out of Michael that Lady In My Life did on Thriller.
OMG I was ready for this review of my favorite MJ album! Dangerous holds a special place in my heart as a Moonwalker (MJ Fan) because it was the first era that I come to know Michael Jackson as. I was a toddler when this album orginally dropped but, I grew up with these songs. With the Dangerous album, Michael was at the peak of his creative genius. It took him 18 months to make. Along with adding Teddy Riley into the mix, the sound of the New Jack Swing genre was just so prevalent and reflected an amazing time in music. I love this style. It was a harder more edgier Michael Jackson record and it showcases his brilliant songwriting skills and producing muscles. My favorite song is Remember the Time. Its an underappreciated classic in my opinion easily could of been a #1 hit. He had the same intensity in this fast track than he would in a ballad. I think the weakest track is Heal the World; to be honest I was never a fan of it. Couldn't been left off the album. It was We are the World of the 90s and I wasnt a fan that song either, too sappy and boring to me, never moved me emotionally. In the Closet was a song that explored his sexuality a bit and kept people guessing, its a steamy track that I still love. The begining of Will you Be There I think was a sample of a Beethoven classical piece, the song itself is absolutely beautiful and emotional. Who is It was a brilliant performance and showcased Michael's range and composing skills effortlessly. I do think that the listing of the tracks could have been arranged differently for momentum reasons but as a whole, its a masterpiece. Its funky, edgy, emotional, introspective, socially conscious, and eclectic. I think this album is his most underappreciated offering due to the media circus surrounding him. He was pushing the boundaries with the stunning visuals and amazing tour and some people just didnt vibe with it. This was even controversy surrounding the ending of Black or White video. Then the allegations at the end of era just made it all go to hell very quickly. It ruined and overshadowed the legacy of the Dangeous album which was a brilliant piece from him. This is probably why there wasnt an anniversary edition of the album. Its really is unfortunate but to this day, its #1 for me and lots of other MJ fans alike.
The funny thing is... i was never really into New Jack. i liked some songs (particular the earlier era of Uptown Records- i love me some Heavy D and some Mary J Blige. Even Al B Sure was associated), but as a genre i never got into it. Still not. If it's on at an event or party i will dance, but i would not, for instance, seek out a 'New Jack' station. But the Dangerous album is great. i think Dangerous is actually Riley's best work.
And to sue someone over a song which is public domain (Beethoven's 9th) never made sense to me. That said, i have both the 1st edition Pop Up Gold disc and the vinyl edition of Dangerous, and the choir is not credited, so a settlement was not surprising. MJ actually had an occasional habit of not crediting people (major example, Brad Buxer with 'Stranger In Moscow'). If i am not mistaken, the choir was credited upon the release of HIStory (i think i remember seeing it, but did not recheck).
And... i LOVE 'Heal The World' but don't like 'We Are The World.' It is a bit too maudlin, and doesn't address at ALL why poverty for African people actually exists. It's another one of those syrupy idealistic songs. 'Heal The World' is idealistic for sure, but i feel like there's a little bit less of a 'savior' complex. I feel like it's a bit more self-reflective.
i was 15 when Dangerous came out, and i remember it being a big deal, like every other MJ album. Dangerous was actually #1 on the charts for a while until Nirvana's Nevermind kicked it out of that position. Nirvana was another band who i think fared better artistically after (and before) their 'sophomore hit' catapulted them into celebrity status. But people will only remember them for that one album (and one song). It's like most casual listeners will only know 'Thriller', when the dude has FAR surpassed that album artistically (i am biased though- Thriller is my least favorite from him, and i was there for all that hype. Sue me, but i think Invincible far surpasses Thriller).

Of course Nirvana kicked him out of the top spot and people thought that was a end of Michael's reign as a pop star, but I think he cemented his King of Pop status with a blockbuster album like Dangerous. Understandably, some people werent into New Jack Swing, it was more R&b funk and hip hop infused and many fans probably thought it was too different for Michael Jackson or that he was trying to blend in with the times. It was the sound I grew up on so I loved it. I think Heal the World was great in theory but the execution of the song lacked authenticity and emotion for me like some of his other big anthems did. Very syrupy and dated. Dangerous is such a masterpiece thats its a shame that it was overshadowed by all the media BS. Definitely a creative best, complex sonically and creatively.
The thing is, i prefer MJ's later music (like i prefer Prince's later music) specifically because it had less traditional pop elements to it. HIStory, to me, was a confessional and not a pop album (though there were some songs that charted). i think he cemented his place in the pop lexicon from the J5, but particularly with Thriller. If he never made an album ever again after 1982 he'd still be alright. Dangerous also did pretty well before any of the controversies (then he had a sold-out international tour as well), so he was still gonna be alright. i was never into the 'King Of Pop' title (which was first written, as far as i know in 1984, from a Victory tour picturebook of which i have a copy), primarily because i am anti-monarchy; i don't support hierarchies of that nature. Why i love Michael was that, despite being a huge pop star he ultimately is no different from the rest of us. He was a descendant of the same traumas people of African descent specifically face(d), and he did have the platform to express that in some capacities.
The other thing is, Michael had been a target of rumors since the 70s (there was that huge rumor that he was dating Clifton Davis), so this was nothing new for him. i just think with the advent of newer technologies it was easier to ramp up the rumor machine. Michael of course had a hand in some of that, by fabricating stories to get attention (ex: the hyperbaric chamber. He even stated in interviews that some of the rumors about him were true). He then laughed at himself with the 'Leave Me Alone' short film (my favorite of his). He studied PT Barnum, who was right there on the bottom of the cover of Dangerous. The dude had his staff read that autobiography cover to cover. i am also sure Michael studied Edward Bernays, to understand a lot more how advertising is used to manipulate masses. i think Michael was so in control of this very specific image for so many years it ended up backfiring on him. We kind of see this happening with Beyonce' today.
i think Michael limited himself severely by wanting to maintain 'pop' status; but i recognize he most likely felt that was the only way for his voice to be heard. He wanted to reach billions of people, but at what cost? On a humanistic level i am glad he got knocked off the charts. Being at the top forever is... dangerous. i think he would have fared better in later years just retiring and focusing on being strictly, a father. i was very vocal about that in the years before he transcended. He most likely would still be here. He really did make a deal with devils by signing his name over to a job (residency/tour) he didn't want to do in the first place, because he had bills to pay.
See... He is ultimately just like the rest of us. Pop life is Dangerous (Yes... ALL puns intended). Sadly Kurt Cobain suffered the same fate. Sensitive people are attracted to the arts because it's a brilliant means of expression; but these forces not intending to bring light grab a hold and eat people alive.
always a student While I love Michael's early work very much, I think when he broke away from Quincy Jones, he soared creativity. Bad was the first to have Michael's creative genius fully realized, he took more artistic control of the album. I think with Michael he was thrusted into the music industry from birth and never really got a real chance to have a life of his own. His career was next level amd even though he loved music and his own gifts, his fate was almost decided for him. He was born to be an artist. The King of Pop status was coined by Elizabeth Taylor and everyone ran with it but they weren't wrong, no one will ever reach MJ'S iconic status sells wise. I think he was the poster child for all publicity is good publicity without really realizing that long term effects of his actions. It still saddens me his demise.
i wholeheartedly agree with you about Michael never having a life of his own, since being thrust into the spotlight at such an early age. Artists like Patti Austin did it, but it was clear she had a more supportive network in which she could connect to, in comparison to the Jacksons or DeBarges. He was thrust into strip clubs at the age of 5; i maintain that Joe Jackson was not a fit father- i don't care what anyone says.
i also agree that it was wise for him to break free from the reins of Quincy Jones' productions. Not only because he would have been creatively stifled soundwise if he stayed with him; i also think he was able to present a particular vulnerability in his music that he was essentially made fun of for by Jones. Jones openly commented on Michael's sexuality, and purposefully offered him songs that would show Michael as this 'heterosexual' man. While Michael identified as heterosexual for sure, it should not be up to Jones to decide what type of 'hetero' man he should be... But Jones has been 'rumored' for years to turn out young dudes (and women) in the industry, but that's another story)...
In terms of 'King Of Pop', it was not coined by Taylor at all. It was first noted in 1984 in the book (again, which i physically have a copy of) covering the Victory tour, by David Levenson. That tour was a disaster... i remember when the fallout happened. It was painful. i remember watching their announcement from Tavern On The Green on the tv. i need to find the direct quote, where the term 'King Of Pop' is used.. It's in the book's intro. Taylor does technically say 'King Of Pop, Rock and Soul' (something to that effect); but she was not the first to use the term 'King Of Pop' in relation to Michael Jackson. A lot of people mistakenly credit her for that. To me, how she even came out with that looked insincere and fabricated. i love Michael, but i refuse to defend everything he does. i see a lot of people simply repeat verbatim what he says in regards to media (amongst other things), and they quote the lyrics of 'Tabloid Junkie', at the same time never question if what HE does is marketing. "Just because you read it in a magazine or see it on a tv screen don't make it actual/factual" to me, ALSO applies to Michael Jackson. People get mad when i say this, but someone who's world was fabricated by Motown is gonna clearly take tips from that. Everything we say about people we do not physically know is gonna be based on our own perceptions, projections, experiences and opinion, and sometimes what they say- even if that's not explicitly stated. None of us could ever profess to know what the man was thinking, even if it sounds like we do. (Ex: 'Michael would NEVER curse!!!' A dude who claims to 'make music for kids' somehow busts out swearing on record (several times), and people think that somehow he 'never' swears, despite people who personally know him claiming the exact opposite. We've got to get out of our heads that MJ is the same person off the clock that he is on the clock).
That stunt (and it was a stunt to me) just seemed like an act of overcompensating. There was also a cover piece in Rolling Stone (around the time of Dangerous) where his people were interviewed, where they very clearly alluded (and stopped short of making a definitive statement) that the 'King Of Pop' title was pure marketing from his people. It was said to be a direct response to Presley, but i don't know how accurate that is. i also have a physical copy of this issue. A lot of the trade magazines in the 80s were very open about MJ's marketing techniques, and it was only in the '90s when he called for a stop to all that. He actually used to talk a lot more in interviews (depending on the interviewer). Once '87 rolled around you started seeing more of the 'elusive' MJ, because that's when all this stuff really started backfiring. People clowned him mercilessly because of his stunts (and it wasn't just the press; it was actually a lot of people who loved him, but were tired of how he marketed himself. People wanted him to come back down to earth, and i think he began to do that in later years, which is most likely why his music got better). Again, he used to have a huge hand in the marketing of a lot of these fabrications about him- he took a lot of that from Barnum.
And i maintain that MJ constantly worrying about his 'pop' status limited him severely.... financially, creatively, etc. Even if he sold 10 records and made the same quality of music he'd still be just as good. i really do think he should have gone the Prince route and just made music to make music, especially after he left Sony, but even before then. The status doesn't matter as much as the quality and the heart. Thriller is the greatest selling album of all time to this day, but it's not even his best album. It's his least cohesive album; the one that is least connected to a clear narrative, except, 'We're gonna make the greatest and biggest selling pop album of all time!' That's all it has going for it in my opinion. It's not a bad album, but i think he has far superior material. Record sales do not equate the best quality material. i think he should have gone the same route as Metallica and not taken advances from the record company, so you would not have to repay back loans/recoup funds. He had the capacity to do that, and they dangled carrots in his face and gave him these massive deals and advances. And with Invincible they put a bunch of money behind the album in advances (the most Sony ever spent on an MJ album), but guess what? They ended up not really promoting it and expected him to recoup whatever funds they contributed to the project by touring of the album. So he lost a lot of money from that album, because he decided not to tour. He was just another product and a wage slave to his bosses.
Just like many of us. He was no different, except he had a bigger platform. i actually wrote a piece in which i observed Michael from a class-conscious perspective. The dude was one check away from houselessness, but for years had a lot of non-liquid assets to pull from/borrow against. The 'legal' documents in association with the O2 residency though- it was 20 ways of messed up. If MJ pulled out of the residency, he was going to have all his assets pulled. He was screwed. The executors ended up screwing him over anyway, but selling his portion of ATV in full, to Sony. So they now own the catalog outright, and McCartney got his portion of the catalog back. And the rights to MJ's music are 'indefinitely' still run by Sony.
All of that to say, i really do thing we should do away with these regal titles, and begin to take these celebrities down a notch. It all needs to be destroyed. They are just people who put on one pant leg at a time, just like anyone else. i will just never see Michael Jackson as the 'King Of Pop'; to me it's a waste of a title, in comparison to who he really was- a man who reached many around the world. A man who allowed people to see his vulnerabilities and flaws, despite working hard for years to conceal them. And while i know he was crowned in the Ivory Coast; the crowning to me was more symbolic than anything. Kings separate themselves from the people; Michael was a man who used his art to connect the masses.
I go to this MJ album the most he was vocally pouring his heart out even sounding some crying like technique on a few tracks like give into me and dangerous. Definitely a good production by Teddy Riley. Plus the tour was awesome. This album is def the 90s

Great review. Amazing project. I always considered ‘Dangerous’ to be two albums in one. One half is New Jack Swing/R&B and the other is Pop fare. Both compliment each other. Unfortunately, Sony failed to release a Super Deluxe ‘Dangerous 25’ Box set ala the amazing ‘Bad 25’

Dangerous is Sonically one of his best albums. Very underrated, not spoken about much, but very transcendent. The whole album flows well from start to finish. He was already the most famous person in the world, but he really the most famous person in the universe at the time this album came out. People forget, Superbowl 1993, MJ was the first performer/entertainer to headline the halftime show. After this, it became normal for entertainers to headline the halftime show.

I love that album cover art work too. Actually it is how I discovered MJ and became a fan. I was shopping for Paula Abdul, Madonna and Phil Collins C/D's when I stumbled across the Dangerous art work cover and it really caught my eye. I knew who Michael was of course, but didn't own any of his albums. So I bought Dangerous and loved the songs, especially the title track, Who Is It, Give in to Me, Remember the Time, and In the Closet. It is still my favorite Michael album. I had to discover Michael and his music in reverse, but now I love all his music, including all the J5 stuff.
+Sherill ...Incidentally, MJ was well aware of what the term, "in the closet" referred to. Madonna said when he was discussing his plans for the collaboration with her for the video and told her he was going to call it "in the closet", she said "you know what that means, right?" She said he answered, "Yes, of course!". MJ was a smart cookie and he knew exactly what he was doing. Madonna was always into stirring up controversy to sell records, so MJ probably figured she would be ok with that title. In any case, he always knew what he was doing...and had reasons for it.
if the MJ estate ever do any other anniversary release they should do Dangerous next because this era he wasnt too young and he wasnt too old at the time then hip hop started coming in as well .....can you imagine the unreleased songs that didnt make the album 🔥🔥🔥

I love dangerous, for a while bad was my favorite MJ album, when i heard dangerous for the first time i didn’t like it, to me michael was whispering all the time even if the beats/instrumental were amazing, with time i learn to appreciate it and i love it, now its my favorite MJ album and it got a few songs that are essential listening to me like give in to me, dangerous and heal the world.
For me... JAM .. always in my playlist! I like the way it starts with the sound of the breaking glass haha, beat and more beat on the song, Heavy D rap, one of my favorite rappers!! and then the video with Michael Jordan puts the icing on the cake, much love from Spain!
Dangerous is a great album man. Also i think gone too soon was also a tribute to ryan white. The song is pretty sappy imo, but i can't really bash on it too much....just for reasons i just mentioned
Dangerous is MY ALL TIME FAVORITE ERA ALBUM AND TOUR.
He sang Gone Too Soon for his friend Ryan White who passed away from HIV. It was that whole contaminated blood controversy where people got infected from blood transfusions and Ryan White was one of them when he was a little boy.
I think the positioning of Heal the World in the album is unexpected and makes the album fresh because of it. Then you have Black or White which picks it up again, creating that nice emotional wave.

This is MJ's last truly great album imo. It's also the last one that would be greeted with mostly positive responses. Sure, it wasn't quite as positive compared to previous albums and the media circus was certainly starting to take hold around this time, but it's still nothing like what it would become after this album. We all know why.
Off the Wall and Thriller will always be MJ's best albums, but this isn't that far behind them imo. I like every song, aside from Heal the World. I can see where you're coming from with the pacing issues, especially "Can't let her get away" into "Heal the World", but I don't think it's too bad. Definitely not enough to detract from how great each of the songs are themselves. I'd give this a 4.5/5.

Off the wall is probably the most Overrated MJ Album ever. Songs r too simple and nothing really innovative. All the songs sound so similar. Doesnt have hard or Rock elements like His later Albums. Only two songs I loved from this album r Off the wall which is my Favorite and Don't stop till you get enough. Rock with you is also very Overrated and boring. Girlfriend and it's the falling in love r one of the worst MJ songs ever. Thriller, Bad and Dangerous has more hits. It's definitely not a Bad Album, it's classic Album undoubtedly but to say Off the wall is Musically better than His later 3 Albums r very ridiculous.

Dangerous and Thriller seem to be MJ best albums other than that it's mostly songs he made rather than albums that mattered to him.Can you do Invincible that's a way underrated MJ album much better than Bad in my opinion.

I always liked the flow because I first heard this album on vinyl. The first songs on each side are Jam, She Drives Me Wild, Black or White and Will You Be There. The last songs are In The Closet, Heal The World, Give In To Me and Dangerous.
I honestly don't see why people hate this ablum, I think this the 2nd most underrated ablum right next to invincible.

This is MJ, so i am ALLLLL over this...
Dude, when i heard Heavy D on 'Jam' when it came out, i was BUGGING! i loved Hev (and had a ginormous crush on him at the time too!!!), so that was the icing on the cake for me with the song. 'Jam' was my theme song for a while too. i always look at MJ dialectically, and the one critique i have about the song (and i have the same critique about many of his songs, even when i like them) is the massive evidence of his idealism being due to his sheltered (and abused) life as a child. The lyrics are all over the place. "She prays to God, to Buddha, then she sings a Talmud (as opposed to the Torah) song..." i always found this line to be strange, given what i know to be the political contexts and differences between the two books. That said, i understood it, as well as the reading of the lyrics. He was speaking for himself, as well as third person (not unlike 'They Don't Care About Us'); and i took him to be speaking of the state of political, spiritual and personal unrest, and as mentioned in the lyrics, 'contradictions'. In the end, he said that he wanted people to recognize him "in the temple". i think this song was ultimately a call to positive affirmation and self-love. When we do that, it ain't too much for us to JAM. i think it was crucial for that song to begin the album's journey, because the rest of the freaking album was filled with paranoia and self-doubt. It's like how the end of HIStory was 'Smile'. i think Dangerous worked in the same way, except in reverse.
Am i the only one who heard him crying in 'Why You Wanna Trip On Me'? Is it just me? As much as MJ was thought to be a megalomaniac (particularly around the time of HIStory (which is my favorite 'adult-era' MJ album)), i think everything he did was (a. a response/reaction to his childhood trauma, and (b. an expression of his difficulty to vocalize said trauma otherwise. Dangerous and HIStory were his biggest cries for help on wax (the Destiny album came pretty close as well), and not as many people were listening as much as they heard, because they were simply caught in the hype, the image or the music. i do know he was in the midst of writing 'They Don't Care About Us' during the 'Dangerous' era, and i always wondered if 'Why You Wanna Trip' inspired the foundation of the song, or if it was to be a companion piece.
'In The Closet' was the first time he openly displayed his sexuality in a mature, healthy way (good on you, MJ! Because chiiiiild... 'The Way You Make Me Feel' was problematic as all get out. Get rid of that adolescent/immature boyish gang rape fantasy. He was approaching 30 in '87. Come on. Because he had his father as an example of what a 'man' was, in my view he didn't develop that part of himself in healthier ways until later. And you even hear him during the 'Glenda tapes', around 1993...). The short film to 'In The Closet' was tasteful mating dance (i thought he and Naomi Campbell actually had chemistry! HA!), and it was the first time i even found MJ relatively attractive- while i thought he was phenomenally, devastatingly beautiful in the late 70s (That fro! Those eyes... That smile...) i never found him at any point to be appealing to me in that way. It wasn't even his looks with 'In The Closet'. i just think it was more of his approach to the dance: never done by him before or since (unless you want to count the short film of 'Blood On The Dance Floor.'). Herb Ritts did a great job in direction, and i'm sure MJ was inspired by his sister Janet's short film 'Love Will Never Do (Without You').
'Remember The Time'... THIS... WAS... THE... JAM! Cookouts, roller rinks and steppers, STAND UP!!! The first three notes would come on, and everybody stood up and had to respect the greatness of MJ. This was around the time people (in the hood in particular) thought MJ fell off after 'Thriller', and especially 'Bad'. This was his reminder that 'y'all think i left? Okay...' And the drums kicked in. And THEN he made a short film based in 'Egypt' with ALL AFRICANS??!! Michael was like, 'Don't sleep.' The fact that he consciously chose IMAN as his choice for a solid representation of African beauty (when remember, he was friends with Elizabeth Taylor who played some warped version of Cleopatra), says a lot about his character. That lady WAS, and still is, phenomenally beautiful. i don't care what anybody says. While it was definitely a Disneyfied version of Zamunda, the fact that he still did it was his penance for the travesty that was the 'Liberian Girl' short film. And i am not even into weaves and wigs like that, but dude's weave was ON POINT. i just had to say that. And there were a few references in there that definitely were not suitable for kids... i don't even understand how people say MJ's music is 'kids' music'. i never found that to be the case. The song though... It's one of the most brilliant (co)compositions ever put on wax. If you stop dancing for a moment and just listen, that song is on par with the brilliance in layering and audio technique of 'Smooth Criminal'. i maintain the song, like several, is either about, or referencing his feelings for, Diana Ross. i mean, he even dedicated it to her.

Word! i think if he was able to do a full-on film version of 'Remember The Time' it would have been a hit! i guarantee you it would have been in the same position as people see 'Black Panther' today... Spielberg and all those Hollywood directors rejected his idea, and he was like, 'Okay then. I'ma still do it.'

I think Michael wanted to try to go a different direction..When an Artist wants to expand he has or she has to work with other skill sets. Teddy Riley talked about the unique way they recorded the vocals and wrote the lyrics. Michael is all about the melody. Melody was King.

I listened to this cassette so many times when I was a kid. It came out when I was 10. Do you remember the time? Was probably one that I totally played out. I love that song to this day.
Fast forward years later, my gf some years ago was obsessed and had the dangerous live dvd. Girls were passing out and got lifted out of the crowd like noodles and they even had faint tents ready lol it was nuts back then man haha

Great review. I feel like, without the child abuse case, Dangerous would ended up as his best selling album. Black and White outstanding debut, the 1993 super bowl (the best promotion ever to sell music, still relevant today), the Grammy legend award, Free Willy and will you be there, and the Dangerous video (that didnt come out due to the legal problems), probably, because of the promotion, Dangerous had a chance to surpass Thriller. Personally, i like a couple of songs, specially Keep the Faith, and more than Thriller, but is not my favorite album.
i think this album turned him into better stage performer, it was the turning point of being excellent dancer, i loved give in to me if he made it with piano instrument it would have been better, i loved dangerous its very catchy, sexy, you can feel the masculinity of Michael, the rest were alright, who is it it kinda sticks in your mind like you keep repeating it over and over

I just came home from watching the MJ production in London. It is based on the rehearsals for 1993 tour with memories of the past. Brilliant. Loved it so much.
His genius was on display on the entire Dangerous album unfortunately controversy drowned out it's magnificence.
Question: If you could hear Prince cover any 3 MJ songs and vice versa what would they be?
For me #1 and #2 would be Give in to me and Dirty Diana, just to hear him play guitar on those two. Three would be Butterflies. For MJ I think #1 would be Controversy: Am I black or white. Am I straight or gay. Are we sure MJ didn't really write that? (sarcasm font) #2 would be Gold. #3 The Breakdown. I'm sorry but Prince just had too many songs, but I would've loved to hear Michael cover Race as well.

I'm watching this again and something you said that I found REALLY funny. When you were discussing In The Closet and you say that he was "dancing around a model", it reminded of how people can fall in and out of fashion (no pun intended) over time. Around that time you couldn't pass a newsstand without seeing Naomi Campbell (the model in the video) on it.

Dangerous was his best album. If there where no thriller this would be the album. Thriller over shadowed mjs career even he said it.
To me they are on the same level. Thriller is just pure hits with Billie Jean leading the way. It's an easy listen and is just amazing. Dangerous is an experience that is so deep and beautiful. There is no other album like it. It feels so fresh to this day and if not for the controversy, would have sold probably around 40 million. I personally prefer Thriller tho.

there was controversy over Black Or White Panther Dance scene and In The Closet short film was banned in South Africa for being way to sexual and Who Is It was also banned in the U.S. never got released until after his death in vision boxset which is just crazy cause he poured his soul in to that

Love this album this take me back in th day, love MJ and miss him much. However one of his last album Unbreakable, is my very favorite but it never got the exposure or marketed as well as it should have because of some dispute he was having with record company and his legal matters but that album is amazing.

This is a great video and exactly what I was looking for. I’m 37 so I was around 10 when this album came out and I remember myself and my peers really being into this album. At the time it was quite a spectacle the music videos the Collabs with Michael Jordan and other celebrities, and the whole save the world with free Willy and environmental thing of the 90s. So I recently revisited this album and I was curious the history of the production. One thing that stood out to me is that on many of the tracks it does seem like I can barely hear Michael Jackson’s versus, and I wondered if that was an artistic choice or maybe lazy production ? I personally like the 90s new jack swing sound and always say the snares/claps & the various glass breaks and sfx are cool. This album for a 90s kid into pop music was a big deal. Oh, and heal the world def does not age well , I just can’t with that song now 😂

I enjoyed this video. I love "Off The Wall", it's his most creative really to me. While the others yes they are creative but "Off The Wall" he just broke so much ground with wanting to prove he wasn't a boy singing Bubblegum-Soul anymore. "Thriller" is a great album album. "BAD" is alright for me, not one of my favorites but it's got decent songs, "Speed Demon" should have been replaced with "Loving You" or "I'm So Blue" but again that album was the start to me of him wanting to have more control on the album over Quincy wanting to allow Michael more input than other albums before but this to me is the start of that, Maybe why I don't love it like others. I think Quincy is a ok producer but again this is the guy who didn't even want "Billie Jean" on Thriller.
He had most of the producing credit while Michael had Co-credit which why I kinda don't care for Quincy. I think he did well with Michael but Dangerous was Michael first album without Quincy and Michael knew he wanted to prove to the world he didn't need Jones to make a great album and to me he proved it. I love Dangerous behind "Off The Wall"
I do wonder had he put songs like "Do You Know Where Your children Are" "Serious Effect" "Mind Is The Magic" on the album but I still love the album.
I will always love his music because unlike "Artists" today, He really strived to create "Sounds The Human Ear has never heard before" he would always say when making a album. Artist today don't do that, they just put out songs that have little meaning and so much auto tune. They don't even produce their own music or write soully their own music alone like he did. He even composed and played drums on his album "Blood On The Dance Flood" but again yeah I love Dangerous. I love the Free Willy movies, 1 & 2, I always listened to the end credits for the song and second movie in the middle with "Childhood"
I would have loved his song on Adam family, "Adams Groove" Little snippets but it's good to me.
I did hear Quincy Jones in an interview say that nonsense about him not liking the Billie Jean song was bull...he said it was not true.

For me the record In the closet is great and his move in a different direction. He has his own innovative R&B style on this album, that I’m hearing and thinking has influenced and has even been outright copied by many other artists. My two fave’s are In the closet and the classic Remember the time.

11:50 You must have grown up after the cassette era. Ususally a slow song would close out Side A (Heal the World) of the the cassestte, and then a fast song would begin Side B (Black or White).
I get up around the end of cassettes so I had some but quickly transitioned to CDs in my teens.

Dangerous wasn't originally titled 'Streetwalker'. Streetwalker was completely different song he had written for his Bad Album. And later, it was evolved into Dangerous. Just like his song 'Al Capone' was evolved into Smooth Criminal. If you compare early version of Dangerous with Streetwalker, You Can see the similarities.

I love this album but it really is lopsided in presentation. Front loaded with harder songs and back loaded with ballads. I think it could have been sequenced a bit better with a few songs cut.
That being said, I've probably listened to it more than even Off The Wall or Thriller. Maybe.

--> To show that stigmatising underprivileged people or children in bad conditions and especially stigmatising people who have Aids or other illnesses is plain wrong and that he, Michael Jackson, stands with THOSE people.
It not only has this huge, strong message, but also serves this greater cause and connects for everyone to see his life, and his overall message to this song.
Michael also was a genius on how he presented the music. The bass would be like a sledge hammer and had a smack sound mixed in with the beat and every thing has an easy to get stuck in your head vocal rhythm. Very smart writing.

one of his better cds....i saw a MDNA inteview (regarding in the closet) and she said something like.....MJ liked the title as it has "shock value"......that was what he was going for.....so i figure he knew what "in the closet" referenced. apprently she had some ideas for the song and he did not like the direction she wanted to take it so teh colab fell flat.
on anotehr note, wasnt this the CD were MJ had the Prince symbol hidden in the cover? I never got to the botton of why and what the deal was with that.

I think this may have contributed to lower record sales. Remember the Time however is the exception because the beat is counteracted by pleasant sentimental melodies. Also Michael killed the song with intense emotion, the lyrics are perfect for the song and the video and the choreography and the dancing are exceptional. Lastly, the outcome in the video made you feel happy.
I enjoy this album and 'Who is it' is it my favourite song on it. BTW 'Black or White' not Black and White.
