And therefore, better? Lol. I would love to see someone land it in 40 knot headwind. And this is just meant to be a joke anyway.. Cudos to the pilot making this one. Its amazing

      Please explain

    • @MrMinimanmatt
      @MrMinimanmatt 3 года назад +59

      @@HumanBeingSpawn so air speed as the name implies is the speed at which the air is flowing over the aerofoils (wings) this generates lift.
      So more air speed equals more lift keeping the plane in the sky.
      Ground speed is the speed of the aircraft relative to the ground.
      The difference being important as shown in this case is as follows...
      Say a light aircraft needs 90 knots of airspeed to generate enough lift to remain airbourne.
      That aircraft flies into a head wind of 80 knots, that means that to maintain enough lift that aircraft needs a ground speed of 10 knots to maintain lift.
      This is the reason that this plane looks like its hovering as the airspeed is enough over the wings to maintain lift even though there is very little forward movement.
      Hope that explains it as simply as possible

    • @Countess_Samar_SprayArt
      @Countess_Samar_SprayArt 3 года назад +11

      @@HumanBeingSpawn Mateus Bully said it perfect. Sometimes you may get lucky and see a planes shadow moving along the ground. If you can follow that shadow or even move fast enough to stay right next to it, look at your speedometer and you will know the ground speed of that aircraft. Good smooth fast ground speed is what everyone on a plane wants especially on the airlines. But when you are training to become a pilot, you will learn a technique called Slow Flight in which you control your altitude by your power. With full flaps you maintain altitude by how much power you give. Sometimes you can have the right condition during slow flight that your planes shadow is actually moving backwards. Kind of creepy for onlookers, but very fun to do at the controls.

      Haha nah it's not VTOL, basically bush planes lik that are extremely light and were designed for short take-offs, combine that with a strong headwind like what we saw, this is the result (kinda think along the lines of a kite in the wind.) The head winds did most of the lift, and resistance allowing this being possible.

These bush plans are designed to do this in fact I have been looking for a good deal on a KitFox for myself to fly back and forth from the farm in West Virginia to where I live in NC

    • @iloveaviation-burgerclub-a8145
      @iloveaviation-burgerclub-a8145 3 года назад

      Dude, stall speed is always above zero. Good STOL planes offer under 30kts and angood pilot can fly behind power curve hanging it on the prop at unusual high angles of attack. Most with the help of slats or/and vortex generators. Here we see that TAS makes the girl fly not ground speed. If the nose wind exceeds your min. Stall speed you can land in reverse shearing off your tail stinger 🤙 Hope you find a kitfox but play safe. This is puting your health and life on a plate.
