At least Bocchi won something, even if it was a lesser deserved category (should've won "best VA performance" and "Best comedy").
The fact that bocchi wasnt nominated for best director and animation just goes to show how little these idiots at crunchyroll actually know about anime and its production.
Freaking tengoku daimakyo didn't get a single mention when it was the sleeper hit of the year, bocchi and oshi no ko which took us all by storm got only 2 award collectively in 2 who cares tier category. @@narutosfrienddeku4328 Yeah, the problem is not that DS is not a fantasy, but the fact that the fantasy aspect is probably one of its least important feature. I know plenty of people who never watched anime who recently watched Jujutsu Kaisen. I haven't talked to anyone who watched or even know about Vinland Saga. Anyways, congrats Jujutsu Kaisen for winning best anime next year.
I think the worst thing here aside from Vinland being robbed is that Reigen lost Best Supporting character to Gojo who was a main character in that arc. Unfair
It's more like they shouldn't let people who only watched the most mainstream, hyped shows of the year to be the jury. A lot of people seems to not know that the votes are split between jury and fans, with 70% accounted for jury votes and the remaining 30% accounted for fan votes. So the winners are decided largely by juries. You want to know what fans decided as the winner? Check out r/anime awards. Anime of the year goes to Vinland Saga by public votes.
Judges aren't any better. At least with fans that includes people that actually watched all or most of the shows nominated. I'm pretty sure almost all of the people on the board of judges haven't even gone through half of the nominees - maybe except Kaho and Glass Reflection (yes, kaho is actually one of the judges), they are huge weebs. The good type of judges are always gonna be outvoted by the normie crowd of judges. So there is no winning in this situation - it will always be a popularity contest.
that would be an absolute embarassment. the fact that KnY won this year again despite having the least hyped/most boring story arc compared to its past seasons and beat the likes of Ranking of kings, Mushoku Tensei; also Hells Paradise and Mashle were good or at least have more of a fantastical elements more integrated to their story. so now KnY beating Frieren doesnt seem impossible at all, which is honestly f'ng d^mb depressing and an absolute embarassment

@@PersonaPrime The Awards have a 70:30 ratio for the jury's votes and the fan votes. Believe it or not, JJK technically won fair and square. It's just that the jury also only watched JJK and nothing else.
I did the calculations. If you just voted for the most popular series on MAL/Anilist (specifically the 2023 season), and you remember that shounen fans will totally forget the oldest shounen in the voting pool and hype up the newest shounen in the voting pool. Voting for the most popular non-CSM show in every category would give you 18/23 correct. CSM massively underperformed, it was the most popular show in 10 categories but JJK or Demon Slayer took it instead.

The system goes as follows: Something comes out late year, it will be in the anime awards after the one upcoming. If something is released early year it will be in the upcoming. This is to give anime's that just released a similar amount of time to be viewed as any other. It isn't a bad system, it just isn't good. The people I call idiots are people not being familiar with the system they've chosen and complaining like "why is chainsaw man here??" When it is literally how they've run the awards for years.
@@AipomBTW that dosent make them idiots , maybe they are new to anime or even new to theese awards , but to be fair most anime watchers are kids and teenagers so that explains everything
I think the Anime Awards moving forward need to stop ONLY considering the public's votes, and instead bring in some actual animation professionals, writers, musicians, and directors as a panel of judges whose votes are more important than the public's. If we're gonna keep seeing popular/overhyped anime win JUST because they have so many fans who are spam-voting, shit's gonna get boring real fast.
@@gyanendherno Msotly youtubers and social media personel as far as I know, the shocking thing is many of them are not even anime or animation influencers, but general vloggers, lifeinjapan or other types. So their taste/expericene with anime maybe even lower than your average anime watcher
@@mateuszmierzejewski1355 You clearly know nothing about math. No, if those judges had any idea about anime they could easily outdo the fanbase because they had 70% of the vote. But they were tourists as well.
I thought Vinland Saga was already robbed heavily back in 2019 anime awards (Isabella snubbed best antagonist from Askeladd and Demon Slayer won AotY over this). This one managed to be even worse. If anyone is salty about this award show, cleanse your eyes with this year's r/anime awards that just ended. Way more deserving winners.
Man... Askeladd should have definitely won that. It's also kinda expected though since from what I could see, Vinland s1 was way more popular than s2, Farmland saga definitely didn't scare away as many fans as manga readers originally thought, but I still feel like it was overall less talked about and watched compared to s1. I did kinda expect it wouldn't win in these awards which are basically a popularity contest, although I do admit that I did have some hopes considering the "I have no enemies" meme going around quite a bit.
I'm sure 99% of JJK voters don't know that the Shibuya arc is not counted. Either Crunchyroll's system is broken, or they had overestimated the intelligence of JJK fans. JJK fans don't start a fight. I have no enemies. Edit: If they intended to include Shibuya arc, means Fall 2023 shows should be included in the award as well. If they intended to exclude Shibuya arc, that means their own staffs got confused and used Shibuya arc clips and posters. Conclusion, the system is broken.
I know the fans meme about JJK brain rot but I can't blame them. This is something Crunchyroll should have realized. People are gonna vote for their favourites regardless.
If a series runs into the season after the cut off, it shouldn't be qualified. If they're going to do their stupid "no fall" thing, JJK should have been disqualified.
Yeah timing for these awards stuff can be confusing for a mass audience. A majority of people likely speedthrough the selections. I'm a JJK fan who has been reading it since around the time they announced it was being animated. JJK is good but in a very refined and simplistic way at times with the systems(Cursed energy) making up a lot of the complexity within the story. It's good but I can understand why some people might be annoyed with the levels of hype it got. Pre Shibuya JJK is imo a great foundation and there are some people who will swear but the first half of the manga but Shibuya is definitely the arc that elevates it. The pop culture around it cant ever realistically be separated from awards like this tbh just a double edged sword aspect of these kind of events
I might be mistaken but wasn't the flashback arc released last year. It is a more low-key arc overall (apart from the climax) but it was still very well written for a shonen. @@LukaTim
The only way Crunchyroll will change the structure of these awards is if people start boycotting the service. I'm not mad that JJK and Demon Slayer won lots of awards, I'm mad that better anime in their respective category were not recognized for the boundaries they broke and for their impact on anime culture and the world this year. I'm also mad about best OP. There were 4 other anime with better songs and opening animations.
I read a lot of comments here that because of vinland saga s2 story got boring and they like the s1 more because of the brutal way of thorfin killing his enemy. I think the voters here like fighting scene with great animations like jjk and demon slayer.
@@littlegrook6085 I feel like they should just make a seperate category for all the popular fighting shounen stuff cuz their fanbase are clearly huge and just don't watch other anime shows. Which is fine but cuz of that shows like vinland saga get robbed of awards they rightfully deserve
As a vinland saga fan it disheartens me that we did not win an award, but there is a part of the fanbase that is raging and putting other anime down that had great seasons. Like our phrase is "I have no enemies" but a part of our community is being hypocritical and whining about losing. You can be sad about VS not winning (even i am a bit sad), but it does not give us the right to call everything else mid.
As a Vinland Saga fan who doesn't really care all that much about the awards, a lot of those shows are actually just mid or straight up bad. Like, it has nothing to do with hating or putting them down, I'll just call them mid or shit if I think they're mid or shit since their level quality is a topic of discussion. People shouldn't view the media they consume as an extension of themselves or criticism against that media as personal attacks. It's just unhealthy.
I feel like at this point we watch the Crunchyroll Anime Awards to be surprised when x category is not Demon Slayer or JJK. "Yo guys it's not DS or JJK this time, it was worth the watch."

The thing about CR's awards is that there are always two or three valid winners for each award. JJK II could rightfully have earned each of the awards it did on an individual basis. But as a collective, where you get this ridiculous sweep it just ruins what most people are looking to see from the show. Most folks want the CR Awards to be like a "year review" of the best stuff we got that year when that isn't how award shows actually work, so when CR tries to apply that to anime it just produces this silliness where AAA battle anime sweep categories where not enough people actually know or care about more niche works. It also doesn't help that their seasons for each year are so wonky. So many people 100% voted for AoT on stuff thinking it was the finale (IV-4) when the actual thing in the awards was IV-3. Next year's awards will either see a stupid sweep from AoT's finale or end up with AoT not getting the thing or two it actually deserves because it will have been so long since it dropped.
AOT will get nothing next year, because JJK Shibuya Incident and Frieren will sweep the entire contest, unless like Re:Zero S3 or Fate/Strange Fake releases on time for the awards.
What they should be is to open votes year round per season basis, then they won't have to worry about recency bias. Winter to Fall should be the full list, and if people had a first round vote, they'd at least be able to include all anime for a better list to consider. Whoever is in the panel already has recency bias, or at least they don't even know what good anime constitutes of. If it's goanna be a popularity contest, at least make everyone involved every step of the way....
Vinland saga got robbed totally. This just showed that how much underrated still this show is. Honestly, It is far better than Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer.
Nah..vinland saga is not as impactful to the anime industry as JJK. JJK deserved it for being the most impactful to the industry. This is not ‘critics award’ or ‘anime writers’ award’.
I'm also not happy with the JJK/shonen sweep, but they are only allowed to nominate and vote for recent shows right? So calling it "recency bias" doesn't make any sense, JJK is just the biggest show at the moment.
@@C0reyTaylor8 actually that's not entirely true. A lot of months have passed by ever since mob season 3 for example. They're between all the seasons of anime of the year but because they took out the last season of anime the year in question, they added the last season of the year before.

I like how Gigguk refuse to appreciate any other anime awards simply because they are niche and not as big as Crunchyroll. And the wholesome part is best VA winner Tomoyo Kurosawa for Skip and Loafer even used the award as a platform to ask international fans to donate to a relief fund to support Noto, Mitsumi Iwakura’s hometown which have been devastated by the recent earthquake. Seems like other awards are doing better at celebrations and appreciation of the anime medium.
@@tommykaung5882 Yeah makes sense, but I prefer the crunchyroll awards because I know that even if whatever I like loses, the people making the decisions are stupid bums whose anime experience consists of like 3 shows their entire life. Its a slight sort of comfort.
The level if quality jjk was at for most of the episodes in artwork, animation, voice acting, and story may not be the best of all time but all categories were damn near top tier for a 24 episode season that kept topping itself every episode. To operate at that level as consistently as they did was extremely impressive i was excited for the Shibuya arc but i didn't expect it to be this good
yeah but jjk was literally nominated this year for the first 5 episodes of the season shibuya arc isn't even in this year's awards its gonna be in next year's
In my personal opinion, I feel like we could avoid one series taking over the awards (just because it has more fans) if Crunchyroll made a rule that one series couldn't win more than 3 awards. They could be in more than 3 categories, but maybe the ones that received the most votes could be the top 3, and then the next runner up series would be able to shine in a category that can't use. Just my personal opinion though. Might make it more exciting to watch than just knowing JJK got every single category it got placed in 😑
Bocchi even being nominated as Anime of the Year, a freaking Slice of Life anime and going against popular shounens like JJK, etc., is kind of amazing on its own. Wished it won one more award, "Best New Series". Hoping for a Frieren sweep next year!
@pointyheadYT iLl bEgIn qUeStIoNiNg yOuR iNtElLiGeNcE yeah because some random ass loser on the internet who thinks they're smart just cause they watch "deep" story anime lmao 1st of all they never said it was just the 1st 5 episodes and even if it was those 5 episodes were better than all of s2 vinland saga 😂
i think as adults we need to stop caring about awards. As vinland saga is intended for a much more mature audience and the average anime fan being a 12 year old its inevitable that a show like jjk or demon slayer would win. Im very suprised CSM didnt win so much. Best anime adaptation as ive seen recently
It did win a lot of voice acting awards and won in like 2-3 major categories. CSM didn't do too badly. I myself would've only given it the award for best cinematography, best ED (still not sure how JJK won that?) and maybe the OP aswell, its tied for JJK and CSM for me.
@@pointyheadYT I personally think best art direction goes to csm. I know a lot of people hated the fact that it was more cinematic than rough. I found it amazing. Definitely more deserving than whatever won
there should be a category for thriller/mystery because Heavenly Delusion, Pluto, and Apothecary Diaries (which would probably be eligible next year) are all amazing and deserve to win something.
Mushoku/Mashle(personally) for fantasy, Reigen for supporting character, Bocchi for comedy, Idol/Kickback for OP, Insomiacs for romance and Vinland for AoTY are all robbed from their awards. It's not even the full season of JJK too so most likely next year they will also be winning again.
Garnt. I have a request. Can you make a tribute video honoring Toriyama? As a guy whose made a living talking about Anime I would love to hear you articulate the impact Toriyama’s content had on bringing anime west and on anime/Shonen as a whole.
2:10:09 Best Score was presented by the man himself Shing02, he worked closely with nujabes on a lot of tracks. What a legend to have present best score
I feel like the main problem with the anime awards is that people voting Seemed to only watch shonen... If you've only watched 3 anime In the year and 2 of them were shonen , maybe don't vote
honestly they need to get more judges from the industry and leave votes for the major categories out of it 😭 like they can maybe have “fan favourite” categories through votes bc at least then its more reasonable to be a popularity contest. its no fun watching something sweep when it feels like its being awarded by ppl who didnt even watch the other nominees
I mean to be fair Demon Slayer's animation was cleaner, smoother and more consistent than JJK's. JJK had some beautiful animation, but there were times where I either couldn't understand what the fuck was happening on the screen (mahoraga fight) or times where I could see some lack of polish and quality (mechamaru fight).
The animation is touch and go with JJK which I’m honestly not mad about. I think other shows should have won over it, but I still wouldn’t mind if it won just because it would be some recognition for the poor animators.
@@HyperKrystYeah, 40 minutes of slow mo, 60 minutes of screaming, 20 minutes of flashbacks and 5 seconds of fighting. Jjk may not have the best "animation" but 100% has the best choreography and how it was animated
Mushoku Tensei and Vinland Saga got robbed. Tell me, how Vinland Saga didn't win any awards? Also, in the title of best fantasy, *ANY* other show deserved the title much more than Demon Slayer... especially Mushoku Tensei. besides, this whole "awards" was a joke.
There are so many easy solutions to this. Crunchyroll just needs to make a rule that one anime isn't allowed to win more than 1-2 awards. If they already have 1-2 award, then the next award would be the anime with the second most number of votes. Or they can make a top 3 for each category based off votes and then decide the winner using actual judges. Or they can get the people who nominate these anime to pick something else.
Nah, just make it that one account can't vote for the same anime in multiple categories. Would go a long way to fix people just blindly voting for the same anime in everything its nominated.
Art direction: Colors, backgrounds, character designs, scenery, composition of the scenes, choice of visual effects Cinematography: Camera angles, montage, pacing, transitions Animation: Fluid movement, lip sync, character model consistency, I guess they also seem to dump aniamtion quality of the special effects in here Character design: Hard one for adaptations, but did they made changes that would make the characters easier to animate, are they positive to the story and visuals. For original characters: Are they pretty and match the tone of the series. Director: Music choices, and tbh I would put it with cinematography, but it's basically best at combining the four above. Basically, the story choices
You had a lot of people just blindly voting for JJK because they didn't see the other anime. They need to fix that. Maybe make it so you can only vote for an anime in one category and are forced to vote for a different one in the next. (ie. If you vote for JJK for best anime, you can't also vote for it for best action. It'd put more value on votes)
@@unterhau1102 Maybe it is, it may as well be the highest quality show in history... but no matter how good something is, if it only has 5 episodes, then it's insulting to give it 10 awards over shows that actually ran a full 24 episode season. Just my opinion. That's like giving the MVP (or best player) award to a player who, although he averaged historic numbers, only actually played just the first 5 games of the season and sat the rest. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Both JJK Hidden Inventory and AoT ep1 have about an hour and a half of content. That's basically movie length. A lot of people seems to not know that the votes are split between jury and fans, with 70% accounted for jury votes and the remaining 30% accounted for fan votes. So the winners are decided largely by juries.

I kinda agree, but other wins should not be taken into consideration with voting.

Not sure I'd put all the eggs of my basket on a popularity contest decided by redditors of all people tbh.
@@anusaukko6792 You are right. Some of the jury votes didn't make any sense. But the public votes are not that bad.
@@tommykaung5882 Yeah makes sense, but I prefer the crunchyroll awards because I know that even if whatever I like loses, the people making the decisions are stupid bums whose anime experience consists of like 3 shows their entire life. Its a slight sort of comfort.
That's because a Reddit award is super niche appealing to super niche anime fans.
The biggest awards show is what matters in all media.
The first jjk s2 opening over IDOL??!
edit: LESGOOOO IT WON BEST ANIME MUSIC
Don't worry idol won best anime song award
@@LordThunderVolt Still, we got taxed both opening and ed by JJK.
I skipped to the end of the video just to see your reaction and ended up hearing you say "...remember guys, we have no enemies." lol
The level if quality jjk was at for most of the episodes in artwork, animation, voice acting, and story may not be the best of all time but all categories were damn near top tier for a 24 episode season that kept topping itself every episode. To operate at that level as consistently as they did was extremely impressive i was excited for the Shibuya arc but i didn't expect it to be this good
People are just salty that jjk is better than most of their animes lol
yeah but jjk was literally nominated this year for the first 5 episodes of the season shibuya arc isn't even in this year's awards its gonna be in next year's
@@slipping4415 that makes no sense but ok
In my personal opinion, I feel like we could avoid one series taking over the awards (just because it has more fans) if Crunchyroll made a rule that one series couldn't win more than 3 awards. They could be in more than 3 categories, but maybe the ones that received the most votes could be the top 3, and then the next runner up series would be able to shine in a category that can't use. Just my personal opinion though. Might make it more exciting to watch than just knowing JJK got every single category it got placed in 😑
should renamed to the popularity awards
Next year going to be a Showdown: JJK S2 Part 2 VS Frieren
1:58:58
It hits so hard now💔😭
RIP Legend..
Bocchi even being nominated as Anime of the Year, a freaking Slice of Life anime and going against popular shounens like JJK, etc., is kind of amazing on its own.
Wished it won one more award, "Best New Series". Hoping for a Frieren sweep next year!
Trasshi the ass
Vinland saga got robbed
No it didn't, jjk rightfully won
@@G30-h5e 🤡🤡🤡🤡
@@G30-h5e 5 episodes of JJK deserved to win AOTY ? Please tell me you're not serious, otherwise I'll begin questioning your intelligence.
@@pointyheadYTI think he just likes jjk for the fight animation, but when it comes to story he will just say it's mid.
@pointyheadYT iLl bEgIn qUeStIoNiNg yOuR iNtElLiGeNcE yeah because some random ass loser on the internet who thinks they're smart just cause they watch "deep" story anime lmao 1st of all they never said it was just the 1st 5 episodes and even if it was those 5 episodes were better than all of s2 vinland saga 😂
the jjk awards, see you next year when they're in there again
I wonder how JJK fans are gonna justify a 5 episode flashback arc winning AOTY this year, when they see the Shibuya Arc poster again next year.
i think as adults we need to stop caring about awards.
Yes and science-fiction also. And supernatural where you put Demon Slayer instead of Fantasy
feels like they got a panel of teenage boys to vote on most of these.
Well unfortunately that’s the average voter
Where is the award for
Ranking of kings
Vinland saga
Heavenly delusion????
Mushoku/Mashle(personally) for fantasy, Reigen for supporting character, Bocchi for comedy, Idol/Kickback for OP, Insomiacs for romance and Vinland for AoTY are all robbed from their awards. It's not even the full season of JJK too so most likely next year they will also be winning again.
Reigen totally deserved it
Nah he'd win.
The real cache is the "jujutsu kaisen" will also be in nominations for the Shibuya arc😂😂😂
Next year
Garnt. I have a request. Can you make a tribute video honoring Toriyama? As a guy whose made a living talking about Anime I would love to hear you articulate the impact Toriyama’s content had on bringing anime west and on anime/Shonen as a whole.
The Jujutsu Kaisen Awards were crazy.
Vinland saga will stay on my mind for longer than any action shounen. It definitely deserves my award.
HOW DID OSHI NO KO NOT WIN CHARACTER DESIGN THAT'S LITERALLY HALF THE SHOW OMFG
I don't like oshi no ko but even I voted for it because it seriously does have the best character designs. These awards are biased and rigged.
Why did JJK win every award except the one it deserved: animation?
Demon mid slayer exists sooo
I mean to be fair Demon Slayer's animation was cleaner, smoother and more consistent than JJK's. JJK had some beautiful animation, but there were times where I either couldn't understand what the fuck was happening on the screen (mahoraga fight) or times where I could see some lack of polish and quality (mechamaru fight).
@@HyperKryst bro for JJk it's only hidden inventory arc and demon slayer had some good animation but me personally I didn't like the CGI.
35:47 best main character
Mushoku Tensei and Vinland Saga got robbed.
Tell me, how Vinland Saga didn't win any awards?
Also, in the title of best fantasy, *ANY* other show deserved the title much more than Demon Slayer... especially Mushoku Tensei.
besides, this whole "awards" was a joke.
What did you expect? This was a popularity contest 👍
Why is nobody talking about heavenly delusion it also needs some recognition
The JJK awards was fire
Reigen got robbed of his rightful award. Gojo was ok but Reigen was peak
I second this. It makes me so sad.
I was here for it all. First time voting, first time watching it live, here for post show. God that was a ride! Thnx for streaming it Garnt!
OMA and shing02 together at the Anime Awards that's dope
If Kinemon and Kiku died in ep 1035 of one piece, then Momo would have won "Must protect at all cost"
meg the stallion is not who i would have thought to see there
Shonen casuals try to watch more than three anime challenge (impossible)
Art direction: Colors, backgrounds, character designs, scenery, composition of the scenes, choice of visual effects
Cinematography: Camera angles, montage, pacing, transitions
Animation: Fluid movement, lip sync, character model consistency, I guess they also seem to dump aniamtion quality of the special effects in here
Character design: Hard one for adaptations, but did they made changes that would make the characters easier to animate, are they positive to the story and visuals. For original characters: Are they pretty and match the tone of the series.
Director: Music choices, and tbh I would put it with cinematography, but it's basically best at combining the four above. Basically, the story choices
70% of the votes is on JJK ngl
You had a lot of people just blindly voting for JJK because they didn't see the other anime. They need to fix that. Maybe make it so you can only vote for an anime in one category and are forced to vote for a different one in the next. (ie. If you vote for JJK for best anime, you can't also vote for it for best action. It'd put more value on votes)
@@pointyheadYTbros just salty that jjk is better 💀💀💀
@@unterhau1102 Maybe it is, it may as well be the highest quality show in history... but no matter how good something is, if it only has 5 episodes, then it's insulting to give it 10 awards over shows that actually ran a full 24 episode season. Just my opinion.
That's like giving the MVP (or best player) award to a player who, although he averaged historic numbers, only actually played just the first 5 games of the season and sat the rest. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
Both JJK Hidden Inventory and AoT ep1 have about an hour and a half of content. That's basically movie length. If you're gonna give movie awards then call it "movie" awards, not "anime".
At this point they should have included the shibuya arc since everyone voted off that.
Man the lobotomy kaisen memes affected the awards as well, the brain rot is real
So happy for our small Buddy Daddies fan base🔥💯
Aot winning 3 awards with just one ep is the real flex lmao

How tf do they keep missing?? Wtf was this year awards just L takes DAMN
Gojo was the main character in the hidden inventory arch and absent like a father in the Shibuya incident arch. How he gonna win best supporting character? Wtf
Disappointed. This feels like Scorsese releasing a freaking masterpiece but somehow a marvel movie gets the Oscar. It's honestly sad that anime won't go beyond as something more than superpowers and appealing to children.
Ok ok ok.. so.. they got Hiroyuki Sawano and Yoasobi to perform. I'm satisfied just by that. I was waiting to watch Yoasobi perform, but I didn't expect them to remove that part, since Hiroyuki's song was played normally.
