Run. Run. Run. Even though his legs were sore, he couldn’t stop running. He had to reach the top of the stairs. He had to. Mario ran and ran but to no avail. He kept running but finally he stopped. It was no use. Mario then started running back downstairs. Nothing. No progress. He was trapped. His vision began to blur as he hadn’t slept for days. Mario sat down on the stairs as rain began to pour through the roof. Would he ever see his loved ones again? How would Luigi manage without him? Mario tried to get up but was too tired. The insanity got to him and he eventually threw himself down the stairs in an attempt to free himself. It didn’t work and it just killed him. Mario’s corpse tumbles down the stairs to this day, bloodied and bruised by the very stairs he once ran up with excitement. Maybe one day his body will finally reach the bottom of the stairs and his soul will be freed.
Mario ran up the endless stars as he noticed that the music had been reversed and said "hey why is the music reversed?" He ran down the staris but he realized he was trapped in the endless starcase. Mario started running down the stairs, faster, and faster, and faster, and faster and faster untill he was sprinting down the stairs. Mario sat down. He had gave up. -Short Story- I own an original cartridge. Or at least I have owned one. I dug up my own n64 from the dusty attic while cleaning. It seems it was from my early childhood days. Everything looks like it was working. So I went to my room and plugged in the n64 and inserted the Super Mario 64 cartridge that was in the box with it. Nothing out of the ordinary. I am greeted by the file selection music. I noticed there was already a save file. "A file from my childhood days?" I thought. It had 70 stars collected. Once I loaded the save file. I started inside peach's castle. There was no music. Which was kind of odd. I know I have ran out of lives many times as a kid. I always remembered starting outside of peach's castle. I suppose it could be because of a glitch. This n64 wasn't taken care of. I brush it off and continue moving to get the feel of the controls once again. Everything was going well. I decide to test in an actual stage. I dash towards the door of the first level which was Bob-omb Battlefield. I spot the painting and try jumping through it. Only for Mario to slam his head against the wall in his usual cartoony physic. After Mario got back up, a bowser laugh can be heard with the dialogue "Bwa ha ha ha! Welcome back, Mario! It's been a while. I hope you don't get lost again! Bwa ha ha ha!" What a weird dialogue. But all this felt familiar. I try going into the painting again but with same results as last time. The other doors were locked a part from the up stairs door. At this point I felt uneased, but I carry on. I reach the room with the big clock on the top floor. I try to go into the clock. Mario is once again bounces off. What the hell is wrong with this game? I can't even play any stages at all. At this point I was ready to give up. But then I realized I haven't gone up to the final stage. Where you fight off bowser. I open the 70 star door. The endless stairs. I was positive I had enough stars to actually go up it. As I scale up the stairs I noticed the music was.... It was creepy. There wasn't suppose to be any music at all. I continue to go up the stairs. It was taking much longer than I expected. I try to turn back but... It was only more stairs. I was already freaking out at this point. I keep going down the stairs. The 2 walls surrounding have turned into nothing. It was all black. Apart from the stairs. I wasn't making any progress so I pressed the power button to try to reset. It didn't shut off at all. Useless power button. Unplugging it did the trick. The n64 was now off. I plug it back in and it starts up again. I was exactly where I left off. The exact same position from when I last turned it off. Except Mario's model had a notable frown. I couldn't help but felt sympathy for the guy. I continue my journey down the stairs. A strong sense of deja vu overwhelms me. It's like I did this before... I did do this... When I was a child. I played this game like a normal game. Everything was fine until I got to this stairs. I remember why I left it in the attic. I wanted to forget about this. I look back to the screen to see Mario was staring at me with tears in his eyes. A dialogue appears. "Don't leave me again." My eyes widen. I remember everything from my childhood. I spent several weeks trying to help Mario get out of this endless stairs. I pulled up all nighters just to try to get Mario down the stairs. It got so bad I started skipping school too. Only going one direction... But I know I failed. Which is why the game is in front of me right now. Another dialogue appears "I want to be set free." I stare at this dialogue with shock. This has to be some kind of hacked creepy version by someone right? But it can't be. This was a store bought original copy. Maybe a developer having fun? Yet another dialogue appears "End my suffering." This feels too real. I stare at the screen looking at Mario with the tears in his eyes. Am I wrong for feeling sympathy for this character? I unplug the n64 and take out the cartridge. I take it outside and place it to the side. I quickly make a home made campfire. I stare at the n64 cartridge. "Super Mario 64". I know why I wanted to forget about this. The look on Mario's desperate face. Being trapped in there... I throw the n64 cartridge to the fire. I watch it burn away. Was this the right choice? Was I able to end your suffering?

I own an original cartridge. Or at least I have owned one. I dug up my own n64 from the dusty attic while cleaning. It seems it was from my early childhood days. Everything looks like it was working. So I went to my room and plugged in the n64 and inserted the Super Mario 64 cartridge that was in the box with it. Nothing out of the ordinary. I am greeted by the file selection music. I noticed there was already a save file. "A file from my childhood days?" I thought. It had 70 stars collected. Once I loaded the save file. I started inside peach's castle. There was no music.
