    Finally someone who explains the features rather than showing how they do their things. I am only getting started on Freecad and this video will help me a lot. Many many thanks for your time and efforts.

    Hi, Yorik! Thank you for the hard work you've put into the Arch Workbench. It's been very helpful so far!
    Some of the things I've found while using it is that I have a very difficult time trimming or extending walls without remaking them. I've been using lines and polylines mostly, since I wanted to make a more complex structure than a simple rectangle. If I modify a wall, it doesn't modify the object the wall depends on. Also, I couldn't extend the length of a wall when I used a line as the origin of the wall. Do you have plans to implement things like archways for door openings? I didn't see any sort of archway or plain opening in the Window tool. I did manage to make a plain opening, but it put a threshold at the bottom that I couldn't easily figure out how to remove. Being new to FreeCAD, I'm struggling to figure out all of the tools. Overall, FreeCAD feels less intuitive than I'm used to, but it's a really great project.
    Notes about the Arch workbench:
    - Implement a way to grab the end of a wall to extend or shorten it directly, without typing in the parameters at all
    - Double check the auto-join walls feature. At one point, I added a wall (as I had been repeating the process in the same manner for a while), and FreeCAD filled in some "rooms" with some sort of roof.
    Notes about FreeCAD in general:
    - Please change the size of the tiny triangles you click to change camera angle. When viewing from the top, for example, it's nearly impossible to click on the "corners" of that cube.
    - I encountered several issues with the undo/redo stack. It seems not all actions get added, thus some things can't be undone (easily).
    - I "think" docking a toolbar on the bottom part of the screen corrupts the user.cfg or system.cfg file because I couldn't load FreeCAD until I deleted those files and started over. I tinkered around, changing a couple of settings at a time and exiting and restarting FreeCAD each time. The only thing I haven't done yet again is dock a toolbar at the bottom.
    - When changing parameters in the Comboview, there is often a button that says "Enter point." Using the spacebar on this button only sometimes works. If you somehow managed to click on something else, pressing spacebar makes that object disappear (toggles visibility). Also, if you try to move your mouse to that Comboview window to click the button, you usually have to remember what your parameters are and fight with the program to stop changing them back. It would be great if there was a shortcut key to manipulate the button that isn't the spacebar. It also helps a lot to know that tabbing and pressing Enter helps ease a lot of frustration.
    - In the settings, if a user has chosen to use inches and feet by default, it would be very appreciated if all other settings would reflect that. This is true at least for the "Texts and Dimensions" settings in the Draft workbench and "Defaults" in the Arch workbench.
    If you have solutions for some of these problems, or some good tips, I'd love to watch more tutorials from you. Thank you again!

    Yorik, não sei o que acontece, mas toda vez que coloco uma porta no freecad, minhas paredes ficam desalinhadas e abre um vão nas dimensões da porta na parede logo a frente. Você saberia me explicar uma forma de resolver este problema? Saudações Brasileiras!

    • @YorikvanHavre
      @YorikvanHavre  2 года назад +3

      A porta tem um parâmetro "hole depth" que controla a distância em qual fura as paredes. Tente par um valor menor ai. O outro problema tenho dificuldade em entender o que acontece, mas uma maneira que sempre resolve tudo é limpar a propriedade "hosts" da porta (dai ela não fura mais), e fazer a abertura manualmente, por ex com um cubo

    Hi Yorik, this is a great workbench and i will use it often. One question, how can i, for example your nice house, export from the arch workbench to an STL file so i can print it in 3d model?

    • @YorikvanHavre
      @YorikvanHavre  Год назад

      to obtain a printable 3D model, you'd need to have ideally one solid (or a few solids you can then mount together manually). This is pretty different than how a BIM model is usually done (many different solids). So there would be a part of manual joining to be done. Then, it's just a matter of selecting File -> Export and save as STL.

    This is awesome! BTW, can you work purely in meters? I still see the mm units in the inputs when you type values. You should type only numbers and this numbers and the program should take them in the units you wish (setting it in configuration).

      There are people wanting this, and others against it ;) Surely it will come, but it'll probably be optional

    Good stuff Yorik keep it up. The more tutorials the better I know sorry for repeating. Is there a project complexity size limit? Eg I have revit models with 60 pages of drawings in them. What the max drawing or project size freecad can handle? I know the problem with false comparisons just interested to know the limits.

    • @YorikvanHavre
      @YorikvanHavre  Год назад

      It's really hard to say. There is in principle no limit in complexity or size, FreeCAD itself is able to handle millions of faces easily, but much will depend on the parametric relationships you have, if object XX depends on object YY etc, etc... with large models you can easily create massive computation hogs. I would recommend trying progressively and see how well it holds. In any case, that's part of the beauty of open-source software, there are usually always workarounds and alternative solutions
