  • Hello, fellow doll lovers! Welcome to another video!
    This is PART 2 of the unbagging video of all the dolls I got on my latest Mother's Day flea market trip! I actually got these dolls the following day after the vlog took place...there was a box of dolls I discovered the day before that the seller hadn't looked through yet, so before I bought it she wanted to make sure there wasn't anything in it her daughter wanted to keep, since it was her dolls from when she was young. So she asked me if I could come back the following day once she had been able to look at everything. So I did, and not only did I walk away with a huge box of 80's/90's Barbies, clothes, accessories, and furniture, but I also found a few more dolls from booths that I had missed before!
    I had hesitated about returning for the dolls, but as soon as I began to take a closer look at the contents of the box, I was very glad I did, because I discovered that the poor dolls were in absolutely deplorable condition! The smell of mold and dirt was overpowering, and everything in the box was covered in it. I don't say this lightly, but I do believe that these are the grossest lot of dolls I have ever received. However, I am overjoyed to have them and that I can hopefully give these poor girls and guys a second chance (and a good bath)!
    So join me as I go through my findings (some of them with latex gloves), and enjoy the video! Thank you for watching! :)

    Poor Barbies & Kens, they were neglected & abused, glad you rescued them into a loving home. Your dog is so adorable laying over your doll clothes. I've noticed with other animals & also from personal experience that pets, be they 🐕dogs,🐈cats,🐢tortoises,🐦birds🐇,rabbits etc..🤭tend to be very drawn & attracted to dolls, their clothes & stuff. They love to rub up on the dolls/clothes, cuddle up to them & lay over them, its very heartwarming to me🤗🥰🫶🏽

    I would sooo love to see you clean this lot up! I have seen lots like this at flea markets and things like that with dolls I would like to have but I am so intimidated about the mold and smell that I end up passing on them. Plus, I love watching restoration videos, so that question will always get a yes from me! haha

    Fun vid 👍 Wow those dolls are in pretty bad shape 👎 You are so sweet to be concerned about the deplorable condition those dolls were left in 😞 I think it's great that you were willing to pay that much for them and yet still have to restore them all 😃 Really they shouldn't have charged more than $20 for that box! I think I would have left them all behind because that would be too much work for me to go through all that 😂 So they're lucky that you were willing to rescue those dolls 😎

    Oxiclean is fine and will not bleach the fabrics. Not only is it a good idea, but I think it's necessary. It's also a good idea to soak the dolls in it. I got some moldy dolls and had to soak them maybe 6 times before the smell more or less went away. The clothes were fine after just one soak. But seriously, I tried the dolls in vinegar and several other detergents and nothing worked as well as Oxiclean, but I had to leave them overnight and repeat it a few times to get the stench out of their legs. For the clothes, see if you can find Oxiclean that's active at lower temperatures. It typically needs heat to activate, but sometimes it doesn't need to be super hot. Another trick is to add it to very hot water, let it activate, then add the items when it cools a little bit to prevent shrinking or elastics from breaking. The Oxiclean itself is surprisingly gentle (I also usually mix in laundry detergent to give it an additional kick and help with bad smells), it's more the heat you need to be careful with.

    I have a second batch of dolls soaking. Hot water, tea tree oil dr bonners soapy water for about an hour soak then i add splashes of white vinegar to the tubs of dolls and leave that soak for at least an hour then toothbrush, antibacterial dish soap and baking soda to scrb, then shampoo and condition the hair. For clothes that seem hard i put in a laundry bags separated by color, sprinkle a little oxi clean in the bag - don’t do this for 60s outfits or very intricate outfits!), and put the in the washer on delicate with dreft soap, antibacterial laundry liquid in the bleach and white vinegar in the softener slot and set it for an extra rinse. This works so far!

    this is what i do for filthy, dirty doll clothes like these. OxyClean will not bleach colors, however, for OxyClean to be effective it needs to be used with HOT water, which can cause colors to bleed. OxyClean will only completely remove ORGANIC stains. Sort the clothes by colors, just like you would do your own laundry, because you will get some color bleeding/leaching due to the hot water. Soak for about 5 minutes and then SCRUB the stains with a toothbrush. then soak for another 10 minutes. rinse out the OxyClean, and then wash again with dish soap. Repeat the process if the stains are still visible. OxyClean is also better than bleach for old white clothes. Use VERY HOT water, and scrub the oxyclean into the stains, then let soak for 5-10 minutes. Rinse, and then wash with dish soap. if the clothes are very yellow, i will let them soak in VERY HOT oxyclean water for up to 20 minutes, and repeat the process several times to remove the yellowing. i have found this process to be extremely effective for removing stains from old 70s-present day doll clothes. I use warm water, and gentle scrubbing for older than 1970s doll clothes.

    • @aniliname
      @aniliname Месяц назад

      There are types of Oxiclean that are also effective on lower temperatures. And very hot water will destroy a lot of vintage fabrics, destroy elastics and stretchiness, etc. I would suggest to avoid that. You can put the powder in very hot water, let it get activated, let it cool a little, then add the clothes and hand wash gently.

      @@aniliname obviously for more regular situations you wouldn't use such extreme measures. but in cases like this, where the stains and mold are excessive, regular techniques just don't cut it. mold is extremely hard to remove from doll clothes, and i have found only very serious techniques work. of course this is just how i do it, and other people have their own techniques.

    Please be careful buying these old moldy dolls, its not healthy and can even be dangerous. Im all for buying used ftom thrift stores and flea markets, but buy stuff thats in good to fair condition. No mold or mildew. Not worth risking yoir health for a doll.

      I agree…it’s very important to make sure you’re being safe when you buy dolls! I have experienced dolls with mold before, and I have found ways to safely rid them of it! And then they are perfectly safe and ready to be added to my collection! Another great example is A Thousand Splendid Dolls, she buys dolls in the most horrendous condition, but she’s such an expert on safely being able to save them from the garbage.
