- Well, well, well, if it isn't another Hampden Estate tasting! This time it's The Younger vs. its unaged counterpart, which I have from the incredible 8 Marks Collection. I had to proof down the unaged LROK from 60% to 47% ABV so that I could actually directly compare these. If you have these both at home, you should do the same! And if you don't have a refractometer, don't fret! All you need to do is some measuring and some math... or I'll do it for you. Just add 0.25 oz (plus a few drops) of water to 1 oz of unaged LROK at 60% ABV and that should get you around 47% ABV.
• Hampden Estate The Younger 5 year old LROK (47% ABV)
- $65-75
- Wild fermented for 5 days from molasses with low quantities of cane juice vinegar, dunder, & muck (LROK mark)
- Double retort distilled in 2016

- Bottled in 2021
- Total congener concentration = 1567.1 g/hlpa
- Total ester concentration = 314.8 g/hlpa

That's a huge angel's share. No wonder they bottled it "young."
The angels are thirsty in Jamaica! Haha
Yes please to the rabbit hole -- after the tasting I guess.
Now you just have to try the 2010 LROK and see how much of a difference the extra six years mean over the younger 😂
I would love to!
