lyrics
spoken
Ring-a-ring-a-roses
A pocket full of posies
Atishoo, atishoo
We all fall down
Once upon a time in a daymare
Dying to meet you, little child, enter enter this sideshow
Time for bed the cradle still rocks
13 chimes on a dead man's clock,
Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock
The bride will lure you, cook you, eat you
Your dear innocence boiled to feed the evil in need of fear
Burning farms and squealing pigs
A pool of snakes to swim with, oh sweet poison
bite me bite me
"Ladies and gentlemen
Be heartlessly welcome!
To Cirque De Morgue
And what a show we have for you tonight!"
Restless souls will put on their dancing shoes
Mindless ghouls with lot of limbs to lose
Illusionists, contortionist,
Tightrope - walkers tightening the noose
Horde of spiders, closet tentacles
Laughing harpies with their talons ripping,
sher-chrisss, per-vizzz
The pendulum still sways for you (side note i think this is a tribute to the song poet and The pendulum)
Such are the darks here to show you, child in a corner,
fallen mirrors, all kingdom in cinders
so many little references to horror, fairy tales and all things spooky 😃
I have always said "Watch Jukka he is like a Big Cat hunting down the Beat" Jukka plays quite a sinister sound on the drums, Marco is just the perfect slightly insane Carney, for me this is probably the most suitable song for Anette, that little screach on the edge of her voice is perfect here. It is a great trailer for the film Imaginareum
Finally someone who gets the song as it really is! The Imaginaerum album is one of my favorite albums from the band, and I really love Anette in all the songs, it was great for me as a fan that started loving the band 20+ years ago with Tarja, to be able to enjoy something different but good as well. Needless to say, I have a deep respect for each of the singers, for the band (old & new members). This is a song not everybody really understands in terms of the specific "witchy" tone, the overall meaning, theme, tone and color of the album + the movie released along with it. Great reaction and analysis, very accurate song selection for the season 🖤🤘 Greetings from Costa Rica!!!
When Imaginaerum came out, my first thought was that it doesn't really sound like Nightwish but I fell in love with the fairy tail sound of the album.
Great comment agree less of a fan of dark passion play just do to it's sad I loved it when it came out for it was healing but do not listen to it often.
I love Jukka for the passion that comes through his facial expressions while playing. He's a performer all by himself. Kai is of course tighter than a camel's ass in a sandstorm. Your next NW reaction... and it was mentioned in the live stream by quite a few people..... please let it be Dark Chest of Wonders (Wacken 2013).

Figured I'd let you know about a report I just saw.
Apparently floor got diagnosed with breast cancer mild form not aggressive and she's having it treated.
Prognosis looks good but she can probably use a few well wishers.
I think we all want her to stick around for a while longer.
A few words about Nightwish (Floor Jansen) and more.
Alan Dean Foster, the famous American fantasy and science fiction writer who applied his writing talent to such hits as Star Wars and Star Trek, maintains a music section on his blog.
"There are many good singers, fewer great singers, and a very small number who are unique singers. Diana is a natural dramatic contralto. This is the lowest range for a female singer. She is also polyphonic. Roughly, this means that when she sings she often sounds like more than one person singing at once. As you can imagine, the combination is extraordinary. So too is her full range.
Singers at age 14 can do things that astonish us. Witness the careers of Jordan and the Dutch prodigy Amira Willighagen. But even when included in this company there is something special about Diana. I love the performances of the two singers I just mentioned, but they are (perfectly) controlled and measured. Diana is more akin to a force of nature. One of the most common descriptions of her performances is “shamanistic.” Some of this has to do with the remarkable timbre of her voice, some with the sheer intensity of her performing. In this she is closer to Floor Jansen. With both women you can see as well as hear the intensity, the emotion, contained with both the lyrics and the music. A duet between the two would be something magical."
I also recommend checking out the top vocalist, the most unique and incredibly talented Diana Ankudinova.

How is this about Nightwish and Floor?
@@kentk2215 Alan Dean Foster is a big fan of Nightwish. He also found Diana somehow and wrote several articles about her. In this passage, he expressed his wish that Diana and Floor Jansen sing a duet.
@@kentk2215 there is always few Diana or Dimash fans here promoting their favorite singers... 😉😁
I caught those smiles Eric :D I´m happy to hear Tuomas proved you wrong! I played Scaretale to my kids last Halloween and it certainly had their full attention... Another great reaction
Scaretale & Storytime & the Imaginarium album make you realise how far & wide & deep the mind of Tuomas is!
A creepy carnival in Wonderland!
Great analysis dude. This song reminds me of the Tim Burton films especially the "The Nightmare Before Christmas" vibe and I freaking love it.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who catches this.
The other story that Scaretale reminds me of is Something Wicked This Way Comes -- one of Disney's darkest early movies.
I do miss Jukka's amazing stage presence and performing attitude. He brings so much passion to the live performance. Respect to Kai as well. Well done Eric! Loved it.
Floor was diagnosed with benign breast cancer.
Please go to her channel on her comunity card and show her a lot of love. She left a letter there.
You might want to watch their movie Imaginaerum from which this video is part of. I think all the songs from Imaginaerum album are included in that fabulous film.
The movie of the same album name is quite interesting to see as well. You should check it out (on your own time, not necessarily as a reaction)
Very beautiful movie. So I agree. You should check it out Eric
Hear hear!
I concur!! The film is very interesting. It isn’t a Rocky Horror vibe, because it’s not flamboyant camp, but it is a bit campy. The music fits into the story quite well but it never crosses the line into full “showtune” except for “Slow Love Slow”, which feels more smoky jazz club less Broadway. Hope you give it a chance!
i concour even the making of the movie and album

Hi Eric, greetings from UK
Another great reaction breaking down why my favorite band have such an effect on me, thank you
This is a song that makes the rounds at this time of the year but then you don't hear until the next year
Tarja started me off on Nightwish back in 2004 or thereabouts, and Floor is my favorite (of course), but this song reminds me that Anette also made a valuable contribution to the Nightwish catalogue during her tenure
it is said that Marco would restrain him self when Annett was in the band especially when they were live. once Floor joined he had let loose and could sing freely
Interesting...🙂
Not surprising he was holding back, he would totally overpower her voice, specially live. Anette has a nice voice but she lacks the sheer power and stamina of Floor and Marko.
Considering he could scream with Tarja it was clear he held back with Annette.
I’ve read that he said that singing with Floor was the first time he didn’t have to hold back and that includes Tarja. But with Annette, he actually took far more lead so there would be some actual substance to the singing.
Thanks Eric, great review. Enjoyable video. 🤘
Jukka Nevalainen is certainly one of my favorite drummers of all time. He really lives up to the music at every concert - even in a soundcheck situation!
I'm really waiting for some Hollywood boss or maybe a European film producer to find Tuomas. And after that we would get a film for which Tuomas has composed the music... It would be a very emotional experience for sure!
That has to be a hell of a movie with his music, something Hollywood has not yet done.
Imaginarium a great movie, deals with real life changing themes. Heavy and wonderful wrapped into one
I LOVE THIS SONG! Even my youngest digs this album! This was the best selling album of NW, and I absolutely wish I coulda seen this tour. They got so theatrical on this album! It’s like a dark circus theme! I CONCUR BTW! Lol
@The Wylde Side with Eric Clarke: Hey Eric. Whenever I've listened to Scaretale, I always think of one of Disney's darkest movies: Something Wicked This Way Comes.
Based off the book by the same name, Something Wicked This Way Comes is about a carnival that comes to town where people have wishes granted. The story though, is that each person who makes a wish gets a twisted version of what they wanted. For instance, a woman who wanted to be the most beautiful woman became a doll. The jock who was in a wheelchair due to a car accident wanted to play football again, and got turned into a toddler. Things of that nature.
It literally is a story with the moral, "Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it."
Finnish Army Knife. lol, I like that.
Looked through your videos, didn't see any other Anette reactions. If you want to hear her normal singing voice, try the music video for Amaranth, or Slow Love Slow (Montreux Jazz Festival). Slow Love Slow is their only jazz like song.
Didn't except this one? So funny video...and tuomas, where does he come up with these ideas??? The music is awesome, the riffs, the melody. In fact this song was stuck in my head all last night. Woke up, poured my morning coffee and this video was waiting. Awesome reaction, once again. Happy Halloween 🔥🤘👻
Jukka is definitely scarry! Great song and video. Thanks Tuomas. What brought this on, too much wine?
U can really appreciate Tuomas’ genius of songwriting by listening the second half of nightwish’s new album human/nature. Here’s the link to fan made video which was approved by Tuomas himself ruclips.net/video/RnOdQ5WNZJk/видео.html

7 minutes of madness? You should give the film Imaginerium a go 😀 The film by Tuomas and Nightwish is what this is taken from, more and more madness with the music of Nightwish on top.
This song is the perfect answer to all those who dismiss Anette as being the weakest singer in this band. Sure, she's very different than both Tarja and Floor, but I still think she had her place and her role in this band simply because I cannot see Tuomas writing this song for any other singer.
Thank you for reacting to this, I am so glad you enjoyed it. I thought you would. 🎃
TY once again for your detailed, eloquent reaction and the strange memory fitting to this song!
Cinematic part in this video made from parts of Nightwish's "Imaginarium". Full-length movie from band. You HAVE to see it! That's something like Pink Floyd's "The Wall". Movie/album presentation.
Anybody else get Tim Burton Vibes? I was waiting for Jack Nicholson to show up with an acid shooting flower.
That's also would have been perfect for The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack.
"It looks like it should be out of control, but it isn't" re: Jukka... that's freaking brilliant, Eric! Totally perfectly succinct!
MHO is that this is and always will be an Anette song....don't get me wrong I love Floor, she is the one for me, but there are some songs in the Nightwish lexicon that belong solely to the former singers and this is one of them. Also Meadows of Heaven. For Tarja that has to be among others The Siren. Have a gr8 day.
Amaranthe is definitely an Anette song. I love that one.
I don't think Floor ever sung this? Anette did a great job on this and there are for sure a couple of other songs she did great. But..for me at least... only in the studio versions, not on the live performances. Too much weird vibrato and not able to reach or sustain notes.
@@littleraven28 There is a live performance with Floor doing Scaretale.
@@littleraven28 I concur
@@FromG2eminor I guess the sad thing is that even if Amaranthe is an Annette song, Floor singing it still makes Annette sound like a little girl….

Again, you brought new views and visions of the song to the table. I myself have never been able to find those deeper meanings and connections in this song, in fact after hearing your review I started to like this song more. THAT's why I love to hear your analyses on Nightwish songs, they educate me even more on what can be the intentions of Tuomas when composing these songs and how the band executes them. Awesome and thanks for this reaction :)
Kai and Jukka. here is my take..........Kai is a Neal Peart....................Yukka is a John Bonham......Both fantastic drummers but very different ways and reasons for their greatness.
ISTR from somewhere, Tuomas said very similar, yep Jukka is a John Bonham but he likened Kai to Ian Paice.
Great reaction. The non live video portions were from the Imaginaerum movie penned by Tuomas to go with the album. Movie was released after the album.
I'd recommend to watch the movie this song is written for (not as a reaction) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imaginaerum_(film). (Amazon rating 4.6, IMDB 6.1) which isn't too bad for a film produced by 4 million USD of the band's own money and intended mostly for fans.
i miss this song in the live settings, it is such a great banger
i saw it twice live, both with Anette
I comment this before you have finished your point just so I don't forget. But about Toumas's banging, this is why I want more people to check out their older live stuff. Yeah the newer content is amazing and perfected, its just so fun to them young, loosing it on stage and just being raw and fresh!
So as a recommendation I suggest some of my own personal favorites of these concerts that are yet to be reacted to by you:
- Over The Hills And Far Away live from End of An Era (I know you already are familiar with this song as you stated in your first Nightwish reaction, so if you rather do another one I'd go for Bless The Child. I just LOVE Jukkas drumming in these two)
- Fantasmic pt. III live From Wishes To Eternity (If you want to see Tuomas go crazy on stage, just a shame its not the whole song. A very good second choice would be Pharaoh Sails To Orion!)
Loving your journey so far, and thank you for sharing it with us ! 😃
@Raymond Mathisen just checked out Fantasmic III per your suggestion to Eric to see Tuomas "go crazy on stage" - damn, that was startlingly wonderous 😮❤

Come on Eric!! Please do 'Imaginarium' (the movie). No one tries it... I really love that movie
I can't imagine how much fun Marco was having being the circus barker.
I looove the witchy Anette!!!!!.... this is, for me, an Anette's song.
By the way, imaginaerium is one of the top 3 abums of Nightwish..imho
There's the perfect scary film for your Halloween night this year
Thank you so much for this reaction! I feel it's a song often overlooked, so i appreciate you taking the time to experience it.
Love your commentary! I just discovered Nightwish a year ago and feel robbed of the music I missed the last 25 years... until now. For the Halloween spirit I would love to hear you review Nightwishes "Phantom of the Opera" with Tarja. One of my favorites!
Eric, the movie part you see is from Nightwish's movie Imaginaerum. The singing in the background is from the official music video storytime when Annette sang. Even Marco said the difference of Kai and Jukka is like you said. Yeah, he's missed.
I concur, check out the official video for storytime. Shots in this are taken from the storytime video and some parts the movie. The movie is worth finding and watching.

After that she's going to get some more treatment.
Please support and give some love at her channel.

Warm greetings from The Netherlands
I always think how funny it is for Anette to give this creepy wicked witch vibe in contrast to her costume, SnowWhite as Disney portrays her, just darker colors. Nice extra touch from Tuomas here.
So a little background if you are not familiar. Imaginaerum in addition to being a Nightwish Album is a full length motion picture cowritten by Tuomas. All the Nightwish members and Troy also played parts in the movie. The non-live parts of this montage are not from a music video, but from the film.
I love all of your reacts! If you've never viewed the film that this song is part of "Imaginaerum", I HIGHLY recommend it. There's a lot of symbolism in the movie but it is a really good film. Jukka, Anette, and Tuomas have roles in the movie. Troy has a pretty dark part as well.
"Squeeeealing Pigs!" by Annette, "Bite Me, Bite Me!"
Marko as the MC.
Cuts from the film, same name as the album.
Circus music going mad.
Never expect something ordinary from Nightwish, they will surprise you everytime. If you want to see a young Nightwish and Tuomas headbanging, check out a fan video from Milan Italy 2004 when the sing Phantom of the opera, he can hardly stay straight behind the keyboardu, it's quite funny.

The best headbanging moment for Tuomas is during their song Fantasmic (From Wishes to Eternity Concert DVD 2000). 👏🏽👏🏽
The whole concert is brilliant, it's nice that we have a professional recording of Nightwish in their earliest years, and this song in particular is high-energy and fast-paced! Very fun!
Love the characters each pick. Tuomas picks the phantom. Troy picked the mad hatter. Annette as the evil snow white. Jukka as the demonic pirate. Marco as the ring master. Yet have no clue what Empuu trying to be.
Emppu is an Imp! Imps, as small devils, are actually very mischievous, but can also drive one mad if you don't realize the nature of the Imp. Basically, the way to get rid of an Imp is to not pay it attention, thus, it leaves when it realizes the person it's tormenting no longer cares about it or what it does. Narcissistic attention is the lifeblood of an Imp.
Loved it Thankyou for your reaction to this one
Jukka reminds me a lot of animal from the Muppet show
Who ever put this montage together did a great job! I love going to "Haunted Houses".....and this song reminds of some that I have been to...and been in! I am 6'6" without shoes on...and my friends dressed me up like Herman Munster...except I had a gross bleed head and a huge sword that I wielded when I popped out of a trap door! My boots make me right at 6'9", and with the extra makeup and higher forehead... I was at least 7" tall...and I weighed in at 320 lbs without everything on! I know I scared the heck out of kids and plenty of adults!
We played music from the original Halloween and Carrie! One night was The Exorcism night"...I wasn't in that one....but dang was it fun to listen to the screams!
This was all in 1979. I do wish this song was out then....it would have gone great with our haunted house!
Thanks for the memories! I never saw a freak show at any of carnivals that passed through El Paso, TX.
The footage is taken from their film Imaginerium in which they all have parts to play through out the film.
I'm not scared of Anette at all (angry Floor is a whole different thing). But this song is a very suitable for the season, anyway. But as an European intelligent l see the "Halloween" fiest as a totally 'Humbug'. 😱😨😫👍
Floor sings "Scaretale" with a very different vibe. Floor is downright menacing, even more so in "7 days to the Wolves". We can argue which one we prefer, but I think the point to be made is that both singers put their distinct stamp on the song. To me that's the thing. We get what the singer wants to portray.
And it's especially creepy if the kids are in formal attire. Like the little girls from The Shining in their dresses or Damian from The Omen in that little suit and tie. Creepy AF.
Thankyou for answering my question so fast Eric. Your the bestest my friend!. P.S. by the way Eric was my sons name who died like 12 years ago from a heroin overdose. When we thought of the name Eric, it reminded me of a noble Viking
this is one of those songs a lot of people want get or understand. So now since you're doing Halloween you've got to do phantom of the opera with Tarja and Marko
Scaretale is my favourite Halloweeny song, it's so fun to listen and dance to.
Y como una side note; The visuals inspired me to create a character based on singer Anette Olzon dressed as an evil, gothic and poisoned from Snow White, I called her The Poisonous Snow White, and she is actually the antagonist in the tory I'm writing lol
Man, I love your reactions!!!
Checked out Ribsonton Florida aka Freak Town. Holy crap!!
The movie episodes of which are used in this video are not a horror one, it is more suited for Christmas. However that bits with very resentful daughter and her dying father in the evil circus are, well, impressive.
Tim Burton would be converted to metal with this.
I don't know if it's possible but I would find it interesting if you can watch the movie on stream or even if you could break it into parts. Even just a review afterwards would be interesting I don't think any other reactors have done that yet.
A perfect performance for Halloween.🎃 My entire concert experience can be summed up in three letters, TSO, my only concert in my life, so far. One of my favorite songs by them, and so few do reactions to is "End Of All Hope". It was my first Nightwish song, before I even knew it was Nightwish.
Tuomas headbanging is 🖤 watch Weak Fantasy from Tampere, Tuomas is all over headbanging

Good one again! If you want something COMPLETELY different, try Slow, Love Slow. You will not believe it is from the same album, let alone the same band. I don't think there is a live Nightwish performance online, so to hear Annette you will have to settle for the studio recording. Floor did it as part of her Live in Amsterdam solo show.
There's a nightwish live video with floor singing it, Don't know if there's an Annette video though.
Annette sings it live at the Jazz festival in Canada I think it is in Montreal with Nightwish that concert is on YT
I concur! I read that Tuomas wanted to write a song evocative of the old Twin Peaks themes. I've heard both live performances of Annette and Floor and this one suits Annette best. Marco's soft vocals added to the chorus truly alter the texture, just as Eric says. I like the studio recording best for Empu's solo IMO.
This from a movie, Imaginaerum. Featuring Nightwish music and score. Pretty dark. The non stage scenes are from the movie. It is no longer on u-toob. Movie Central carries it.
In 7 Days To The Wolves, Tuomas goes hard and shakes the keyboard stand. My second favorite Annette song. Slow Love Slow is #1. Floor does a sweet Slow Love Slow, version too,
I don't know if there's a term for it, but I always referred to drummers like Jukka as the drummers that play with so much power it sounds like they are trying to drive the drum sticks through the drum, Jimmy The Rev Sullivan was that way too and those are my favorite drummers, they are just driving the beat straight through your chest.
Aw, some of the kids are terrified of the crazy clowns, some don’t like the look of Annette !. Personally I love the whole thing, which is as you said is, Toumas. The where with all to put together something that can make people think listen and watch with aww ! Wether they like it or not, it’s …. a scaretale !!
Tuomas headbangs in a lot of songs, but it's not always noticable cause many times the camera is pointed at Floor singing. 7 Days to the Wolves is one well known sing in which he even gives Floor a run for the money. Another one is Bye bye, beautiful. He's not that often in the picture, but he's totally letting loose, as was Marko in that one.
I think of Jukka as anakin skywalker and Kai is Obiwan Kenobi. Both amazing in their own ways but jukka is a bit more raw where Kai is a bit more composed.
Hi eric! Im huge fan of nightwish and this have been my pleasure to see all your reaction videos. But even i am nightwish fan, even more i am marco fan. And i recommend you to check out tarot - tides. Greetings to you from finland :)

Suggestion: Tuomas goes pretty hard on “Bless the child” at Wacken 2013😀, I recommend!!
This is Anettes song....she is the witch! ;)
This is not one of my favourite songs but I adore the musical theatre aspects, and particularly Anette and Marko doing their character voices. The _Imaginaerum_ movie (which provided the non-live imagery) is worth a watch sometime - but if you have experience of witnessing dementia in someone you love, be warned it will hit hard. Beyond that it has a _Mirrormask_ vibe.

Anette at her finest.
This song is what happens when you have a fever dream influenced by Megadeth, Tom Waits, and Tim Burton.
Scared into Fun....
Floor Jansen to have Breast Cancer op tomorrow? Hope it goes well
You need to listen Slow Love Slow with Annette
Imaginaerum helped me get through some pretty dark times. Anette herself, while turning out an album that lit my world, was - in my opinion - horrible at performing live. The album version is what you hear in this video. You got the best of both worlds here. It really encapsulates the spirit of Imaginaerum: themed as a circus and celebrating imagination. If people want you to do Ghost River, be aware that the original version is Anette's, but if you use the live it will be Floor. Personally, I like the album version better.
Also, I hear Tuomas actually still sees Jukka more than the rest of the band XD they're still very good friends.
From movie
From one drummer to another - Jukka's style is impressive and is truly missed :(
Were Tuomas and Jukka dressed up as pirates ?
Nightwish meets Tim Burton
Eric , this in reference to your shirt. I know Pink Floyd just put out a ( new and improved version of animals ). My question is , is there that much of a difference between it and my old CD version? Or when bands do this is it merely a cash grab. If you feel that it sincerely is a major difference , especially after i burn one perhaps i'll put down the cash for it. If possible let me know. I have a nice old school stereo so copy i have sounds good.
I have a lot of "remastered" CDs and from what I've learned, there are a few reasons for this. One reason is an obvious cash-grab by the label/band. Another reason is a remaster of an original recording manipulated and literally taken from the master and using modern tech, improve the sound like going from a mono recording to a true stereo. But another reason, and this is not as rare as you would think, is that the original CD, not recording, but the physical CD when originally pressed was not of the quality currently in production, so they put it through the process again. There's rarely an audible difference to the average listener. If you're happy with your rig, keep it. But like I said, if you can improve on what you have from a music perspective, I'd look into that.
Cheers!
Eric
Check BABYMETAL's recent release, Divine Attack.
Interesting song but I just can’t listen to Annette’s squeaking….. for me, it was a different squeak…. I guess I just don’t like the high register, if that’s a more technical way of saying it….
It’s funny if you look deep
On RUclips Marco hates singing this song. Hoo Haa Hoo Haa. I’m one of a few thousand people who have seen floor do this song live. They played it on the one US tour that Floor took over and never played it again
The Composition is outstanding
sadly for me as soon as her singing starts its kinda over. I mean she does some cool stuff with the tone though there is literally no Power against that Wall of Instruments 😕
