    I get that the Rangeman is a superior model but still the G7900 is a real badass, it features a low temp display guaranteed up to minus 20, that means that in real life it can probably go to minus 40, considering body temp etc. Also, it has a fantastic countdown timer with 3 different options, linear, repeat and regular signals. I can't but love it. And well if you're wondering... the Rangeman is coming next :)

    Watching this just now, and own both..the 7900 I only really use when I'm going sailing, or out in the speedboat, but the 9400 is my daily watch, and like the OP, I tend to use it's extra features quite a bit.

    Yes, master of G has its extra features but in the case of the 7900 its use is relative. My GGB100 Mudmaster is a great daily watch, but it doesn’t have the tide features I need for weekend beach camping trips and I choose to sport the 7900. You could go with the Frogman but we all know how hard those are to come by.

      When adjusting the home time you'll be promoted to enter site data, which you can find online. You'll have to manually adjust such data as it's not automatically associated with the city code. Only when you enter the site data correctly will you be able to yield moon and tide data......

      Rare ? Lol Every G-Shock is low temperature resistant. For instance, this Rangeman has a -10 resistance and it was already frozen at -24 and less by users and was working in the same. The printing on the screen is purely for info/aesthetics.

    No point getting a GW-xxxx model in AU as it's already "crippled" in that the atomic 6-band reception is incompatible with Oceania regions and is thus disabled when the home time zone is set to such area. The G-7900 (not GW-7900) should be more than suffice for AU/NZ use......

    • @PerthWAtch

      How about bragging rights? Especially if you’re ever gonna travel…

    • @vampyrelycan99
      @vampyrelycan99 Год назад

      @@PerthWAtch Mechanisms can fail and so can the atomic receiver module. How do you know you won't end up getting a lemon with the said fault in question, while in AU? Only when you travel to any of the six compatible regions can you test the atomic reception function and confirm its working condition......

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  Год назад +1

      Wrong. You can get a phone app that simulates the AT signal if you really want to test that out and have that function.

    • @vampyrelycan99
      @vampyrelycan99 Год назад

      @@PerthWAtch Now that you mentioned it, I seem to recall some sort-of atomic band generator (emitter?) used at certain independent watch stores. It can emulate a certain region's atomic time signal while the store is located at another region (of atomic reception, or none). However, the watch'es city code needs to be set to one that falls under the right atomic reception region in order for the "receive" function to be operable; otherwise it will remain disabled.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  Год назад

      That sounds plain silly - just get the AT signal if you have one and then adjust if you need to (for whatever bogus reason you might think you need to do that 😂).
      For us in places like Australia, get a phone app if you must.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  7 лет назад +12

      Good point - I would go further to say that you absolutely don't need any of this, and you probably have a phone if you need to know the time :) But often features and complications in watches are to be had because we like to know it's there... a whole other discussion on that, but with this particular comparison I'd go for solar over conventional battery any day. Hi there! The GWM5610 is a classic best seller and can be highly recommended, but I would say the same for the Rangeman, being absolutely packed with features, and pound for pound (gram for gram?) arguably the best value G-shock there is. Excellent video, thank you. Quick question, I noticed that when trying to return to the main screen on the 9400 from the stopwatch you hit the sensor button followed by the mode button. It's this the fastest/most reliable sequence? Obviously just mashing through is an option, but this looked to be fairly clean? Just curious! Thanks

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for that. Not sure what you mean by "most reliable"... I think you can change modes in any number of ways, and they are all as reliable as each other. As for fastest, I'm pretty sure this is the case. You can hold down the mode button from any mode and return to main time display, but that requires a 1.5 sec hold.

      Yeah, large positive displays like this tend to be fine for vast majority of uses I think. Even in dark conditions there is the backlight. There will always be angles where the contrast is less but you can still read it.

    I keep hearing that the atomic 6band signal is going to be shut down very soon making this feature useless. Also I hear that the temperature function doesnt work as it picks up the heat from your arm and the only way to use it is to take the watch off, let it sit for 10 minutes, then temp, also making that useless. Regardless I love both watches but have found myself wearing the king gw56 with an added bull bar and Zulu strap

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  5 лет назад +1

      I've heard of the apparent shutting of the signal but alleged this was inaccurate rumour (?). The issue with the temp sensor is correct - to have it work when worn, it needs to be worn outside a layer of clothing (e.g. Ski jacket), or in a way that's not touching skin.

    hey man please help me out...I have ordered this GW-9400 Rangeman two days back via online...
    tomorrow I will receive this...my issue is since its a solar watch so conscidering that fact what do you suggest
    regarding the batch number...its 2018 should I go for the model that ends up with the alphabet 'H' or what if it is older...
    will it be okay to keep it or should I refund the iteam... I dont want the battery to get screw because I have heard keeping this watches under dark for long time can hamper the battery life or it could be damage
    and since its from online so god knows for how long it was kept withing the box in godown under complete darkness...
    this thing is really bothering me man...this is my first solar model of G-SHOCK ...
    please suggest me...I am tensed :-(

      I'm not sure about the batch number regarding this issue... and also haven't heard about nor experienced any problems with solar watches being in dark. A full charge lasts 2 years on standby so it would a very long time on shelf for it to run out fully!

    Most people will never need a barometer, a compass, an altimeter, a moon phase or a tide indicator. Those are just fancy features to make the watch more expensive and desirable. The best gshock is the dw5600, It has all you ll really need which is a clear display, time, calendar, stopwatch and a countdown timer. All those extra layers of protection expensive gshocks have are unnecessary. You ll never be in such extreme situations to justify anti dust or a 200 meter water resist. I used a standard cheap casio world time which is not even a gshock and I took it to the beach, to the ocean, it was with me in all kind of weathers and its still in perfect working condition after 5 years.
    Im saying this because its useless to spend too much money in expensive watches with fancy features. Save that money and use it for more productive things.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  Год назад

      Mostly agree with your first paragraph.

      @@PerthWAtch in my country those casio models are expensive. Of course they are not expensive as a rolex but is money. Besides, even the navy seals didnt need those useless features, they used the gshock 6600 which has only basic functions but its legible and durable.
