Hi everyone, in this video I’m exploring the amazing city of Subotica. I highly recommend you check it out if you’re in the Vojvodina region / Northern Serbia. It’s a short drive away from Novi Sad which I covered in last week’s video. Well worth the trip! Have a great weekend!
Why don't tell real name of that serbian city... SUBOTICA this is not Hungarian is this something want to tell you...like NATO bombing Serbia and trying to give Kosovo part of Serbia to Albania...
@@vesnans4919 what's your problem? Subotica is as Serbian, as Novi Sad is. Not too much. No matter, which Nation is the majority now. When I had to leave Subotica, Serbs made up less than 15% of the population. In 1991. Please stop this stupidity
@@jovanmuskalutka3708neko me je Novi Sad ,nekom Prizren al ja volim. Beograd sa svim nesavrsenstvom BG ima nesto sto u meni budi srecu ,a iskreno ne znam zasto 😁. Isto to osecanje imam kad sam u Hercegovini i opet ne znam zasto 😉
Of course because all the buildngs built by hungarians berfore the First World War. After the war this area called Vojvodina gifted to Serbs by United States of America.
From its time as part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Subotica - like a great many cities in the region - has a multi-cultural past and hence multiple names, depending on the language being used. Subotica is the name of the city in Serbian, but its name in Hungarian is Szabadka (still commonly used by Hungarian-speakers) and, interestingly, Maria-Theresiopel in German (now of historic interest and not commonly used by German-speakers). Thank you for this glimpse of a city that is a bit 'off the beaten track'.
Damn Yugoslav war forced me and my family to leave my hometown of Subotica 30 years ago.my heart is still bleeding. I still miss so much my Birth city.
This video from my Birth Town is the most beautiful I saw… Thank you so much for this but you forget the restaurant Gurinovic and the Buvljak..that’s very interesting too…
Very interesting city, I liked the bronze statue of a man coming out of the manhole. I agree that McDonalds has to be one of the most beautiful ones around. Thanks again for a great video.
Watching this excellent video I went down memory lane. Subotica is a beautiful city in which I lived from 1943 to 1954 and completed my primary and secondary school.
Another great travel video from you, Janus. Brilliant drone shots and very enjoyable walking tour. So many amazing & historical places to discover in Subotica and yes, I can see the Hungarian influences there. When were you there? Many thanks Janus! See you in the next episode 😊. Dina
Beautiful, Hungarian art-nouveau architecture is just something else...How would you rate this town with other towns in Hungary (e.g. Szegedin). Which one do you prefer?
It’s an interesting question. The twin has definitely lots of Hungarian references, given history and proximity to today’s Hungary. But daily life, markets and people are of course Serbian now. It’s an eclectic mix. I’d visit both - and I have 😊
Not just Hungarian references but all of these buildings minus the Cathedral were made by Hungarian architects like Skultéty János, Komor Marcell, Jakab Dezső, Raichle J. Ferenc or Magyar Ede. They made many masterpieces in other Hungarian cities and also lived in Szeged. Even that fountain is made out of Hungarian Zsolnay porcellain from Pécs. And one third of Szabadka's population is still Hungarian after 124 years. @@januslog
What a fantastic video!! Thank you so much for exploring Subotica. The next time I visit Serbia I will definitely visit Subotica & Palic Lake. I subscribed to your youtube channel now.!!! (Best wishes from London!! :)

Thank you very much. Yes, it’s very very close to the Hungarian border. I was there last July. An just very late with the editing 😅
Very professional videos! Just one comment on the pronunciation. "j" is pronounced like"y" in Yugoslavia in Serbian.
