Totally love how you say to "have that conversation" right thing to do. I respect you Matt for acknowledging that I wish more people did, things like that are why yall are my favorite ballers
I just bought my first Ball. She is a lesser Pastel. I watched your series on morphs when I was trying to figure out what I wanted. I fell in love with Lesser Pastel off this video. So excited to see how she grows up and her colors progress. Thank you for explaining Gene's in a simple way instead of hiding behind the lingo.
My second snake ever and first female is a lesser, can’t wait to breed her in the future. Thank you guys for making all of these really helpful and informative breeding videos, hoping to make a super lesser for my first goal. Keep it up guys you’re ready helpful.
i really love that you preach about the spiders, theyre so amazing and i love them as well! Edit: Also like how you talk about talking to the customer about wobble and the spider gene before the sale. Thanks for the video bud!
These videos are soooo helpful for the novice to understand what all of these terms mean. Thank you for explaining and showing the snakes side by side so that the differences become clear!
You made some good points about the spider wobble. I won't mention names (partly because most people will probably already know who I'm talking about anyway), but I've watched a person on youtube who is against the spider gene, and also has a (non-spider) ball python that has not eaten in a year, and he refuses to take it to the Vet or change the habitat's setup because "My husbandry is pretty perfect." He has bright lights on in the aquarium 12 hours a day because "all reptiles need a day/night cycle" (a claim he is basing on no research, seeing as ball pythons are nocturnal and spend all their daylight hours hiding in dark termite mounds in the wild). If you research anything about ball pythons or check with more experienced keepers/breeders, you will quickly learn that when your snake has stopped eating, you need to make changes to the habitat. Lights in a terrarium will stress your snake, so if you've had lights on it and it stops eating, you need to try turning those lights off, maybe even use a cloth to cover the front of your terrarium so the snake can't see out (if you are keeping it in its tank, otherwise you could switch it to a tub), and of course adding extra, smaller hides for it, before you wait an entire year and then decide to force-feed the snake without changing anything about the habitat or taking it to a Vet first (force-feeding is of course very stressful for snakes, and should be a LAST resort, not something you attempt before changing your husbandry or seeing a Vet). But by all means, people should listen to the high-schooler who can't even recognize/address stress in his own snakes about the wobble gene because he "rescued" one snake with a bad wobble over people who have years of experience working with the morph.
It's cold down her in FL, too. 45 at night 60's during the day. Well, it warmed up today. 71 deg. Sorry... anyway, now that you hate me, thank you for talking about the Lesser gene. It's one of my faves.
Great video. I bought a leopard lesser spider PH pied as my male for breeding. I love the lesser in it. But now with all the spider hate I am worried this may not have been a popular choice for what is the cornerstone of my future breeding projects. Wish me luck. On a side note I got my first clutch today and I cried with joy like a baby.
I recently (2 weeks ago) got my first ever snake, he is a 2 month old lesser ball python. I love his pattern and he is amazingly tempered so far, even letting me pet his head. I have had the thought of breeding him cross my mind before, maybe when I'm older, this video was definitely nice to watch of good possible pairings for my lesser
I'm so psyched Matt I might have my first clutch this year from my cinnamon girl and my banana pinstripe boy!!!! I also started breeding my own rats!!! I just want to say thank you and kurt for all the education and encouragement. If it wasn't for both you and kurt, brian Gundy, Kevin over at NERD, and Brian over at bhb. I've already set up my incubator so it could be at temp if/ when she decides to lay. I am truly grateful for the support and encouragement I've received. Baller for life!!!
I really really like the way you speak on spider gene and how no one really freaks out over all the other problems with many other genes that to me also are more severe than a little “wobble”.I also really believe extreme “wobble,” or whatever you want to call it is stress induced. Also no one that has owned or been around a spider ball python can deny how they crush food.
Pretty cool video. I learned some things for sure. The lesser ghost was sweet. I also agree with CGC about spiders/spider combos eating and doing just fine. I’ve actually said that a few times in the past in person not as a comment anywhere. I love spider or spider combos and in my opinion, they are unique, do just fine if maintained well just like you stated, and great looking animal.
I had one with a horrible wobble. It was kept in a rack and everything was good. It would corkscrew and all. But she ate fine and did everything she needed to. I loved her the most!
Awesome video!! Thank you so much for making this video. Very helpful and informative!! Thank you so much for sharing!! Keep up the great and amazing work Matt and Kurt!!! What are the complete white ones with BLACK eyes called? Also what happens if you mix a Super pastel black female with a Ivory (Complete white accept one tiny yellow line barley visible) male with both black eyes?
Snakes can also be worked with to overcome or at least lessen those neurological issues. I have a Leopard Spotnose 66% het Clown that when I first got her had almost no strength in the back part of her body and could not coil a rat with that part at all and I worked with her (my own style of physical therapy) to develop better muscle control by putting her around my arm and just slightly turning my wrist a little in each direction. She also had her head tilted to the side when I got her, much like a Spider. That is pretty much gone now. I'm planning on doing a video on this at some point. I watched another one of those anti-Spider videos recently and there were people ragging on the Super Cinnamon and Super Black Pastel too. I think they just have a knee-jerk reaction and want to get rid of everything rather than doing the work to correct it. The problems in those two genes, breeders are finding are more of an incubation issue anyway. The embryos seem to be less able to withstand the normal temperatures Ball Pythons are usually incubated at. When incubating them at 96-98 Degrees they are coming out with no problems. I wish somebody would figure out a workaround for the Carmel Albino and the Desert females, as they are both beautiful morphs.
I don't know if there is a full work around, I have seen incubation to trying to control and help with kinking in caramels, but the incubator also doesn't hold temps well that was used. That is why I am doing mine (super black pastel) in a completely separate incubator. If that doesn't work, I won't attempt again
My female lesser pastel and male lesser has been locked several times each week since beginning of February. Nothing came of the pairing last year, but hoping that I'm lucky enough this season to strike the odds and get a BEL for my collection

I'm beginning to think that there are different lines of spider. Like there are different lines of fire, pastel, etc. or maybe some spiders wobble because the family tree is too small?? My black pastel spider has no wobble and rights herself right away when flipped over. I have plans to breed her in the future but I say if your spider has a wobble especially a severe wobble.....don't breed it. But don't say not to breed any of them, because not all spiders have issues. Love the videos!

Awesome video guys! Thanks to your channel, my girlfriend and I (Rachelproductions on RUclips) got ourselves a little lesser Pastel leopard ball! Thanks for the educational video and check her video out! We’ll have a video about our snake soon. Thanks 🙏🏼
Next bp I get I want a spider.. I see more spiders on RUclips with no wobble than ones with a wobble.
Yeah for sure on spider my female is great. She pounds rats. She’s 2 and 1800grams. No issues
Don't hold back. Just tell it like it is....lol
can a butter produce a bel?
