My dad passed away when i was 8 and he left me with this bands music in my heart. Darklands, psychocandy. Guys, you're "cool" hahaha. I loved your music for decades. Potentially my favourite band. Thankyou! I'm turning 30 this year. Perth, Western Australia.

It can be seen that it is a small theater, maybe 1000 or 2000 people, for Jamc it must have been like going back to the 80s, a really select group enjoying this in the most populated country in the world is wonderful, what a privilege for both!

Rock and roll may be dying, but thank heavens we've still got the Mary Chain. Loved this band since I was a pimply schoolboy when Psychocandy came out. They remain so real and unassuming, but secure now in the knowledge of who they are. My favourite band, ever and always. Damn fine acoustics in that concert too... great footage.

Chinese here and saw JAMC on that tour by the Hong Kong stop. The show was a beautiful ode to my highschool days, when I was feeling very much an outsider a lot of time. I used to hum 'Happy When It Rains" whenever it was raining outside in the classroom - a joy that I couldn't find anyone to share irl. JAMC brought me the fuzzy, dreamy warmth that I can still remember clearly - even to this day. Thank you JAMC, you are very important to many of us! :)

Wow! I had no idea they had a following like that in China. That's freakin cool. Growing up when they were first making albums I had a hard time even knowing anybody, friends or not, that also liked JAMC. At least more than just a little, I didn't know anyone that was a big fan like me. I guess the whole Internet thing has made everything more accessible. I'm sure if the internet was up when I started listening to them, I would have found some other fans, or friends. And it's just so easy now to hear what's out there, instead of having to hunt through record stores for some new album, or an older one even, that you don't have.

The search was half the fun, though, it was a mission, and the finding gave gravitas to the pursuit. That's missing now and the instant gratification reduces the impact.

Believe it or not, a lot of British bands are quite popular in mainland China. Bands like Suede, Oasis, Coldplay, the Libertines etc. all have quite some followers. Back in high school I once went to a music festival in Beijing just to see Brett Anderson, the singer of Suede. I think in general bands from UK are much popular in China than they are in the United States. :)

I'm kind of not surprised that they have a big following in China. I live here (Shanghai) and love the place but music, in general, is very "safe" - to the point of being bland. I understand why, but it's one of the few aspects of life here that makes me feel like the Chinese people are missing out a bit. All this, bearing in mind that I don't go looking for more diverse stuff, this is just based on what I occasionally hear on the radio.
So yes, much the same scene here that JAMC originally flourished in. There will be so many people to whom this music absolutely SPEAKS, and who are starving for something more than mass-produced pop. I'm happy for both JAMC and China that they have not only been introduced to each other but that JAMC came over to play.
Nice little video (though some color grading I'm not such a fan of, but that's just personal taste). Thanks for posting here :)

I visited Beijing a few years after the Tiananmen Square Massacre. Despite the ubiquitous presence of machine gun toting guards, the city seemed eerily peaceful if only for the fact the citizens tacitly understood to mind their own business, go about their daily errands and ignore the idiotic foreigners taking selfies in the area where cries for democracy were met with hails of bullets. So given how rigidly locked down China was in 92, I am baffled how anyone there could have heard of JAMC much less get a copy of their music back when they were only 16-17 years old. Just imagine finding Psychocandy in a black market in Shanghai back in the early 80s when the sale or possession of anything we take for granted in the West would have landed you in a gulag! This is a testament to the true raw artistry that will always be the core of JAMC transcending fads and fashion while enthralling music lovers of any generation, culture, ethnicity or nationality.
