Yes, this is the Calvert family flag but it was the "unofficial" flag of Marylanders who supported seceding from the Union. Maryland is a Southern state technically speaking. Our state was under martial law and voting was suspended as representatives were arrested before they could vote on the issue. We may not be the deep south, but we are the south. We are a border state and consider myself Southern. Plenty of people from MD fought for the CSA.
Eastern Tennessee was almost completely pro Union does that make it Northern??! Uh no! Maryland likewise was a Southern state unfortunately not anymore :-(
Maryland was union, as much as confederates like to pretend it wasn't. My county only had 23 members join the confederacy, while other a thousand fought for the glorius union.
More Maryland troops served in the Confederacy including my direct relatives than the whole state of Florida.I could go on and on...
This symbol was adopted by Confederate sympathizers of Maryland. The black and gold portion of the state seal was used by pro Union forces.
and "Maryland, My Maryland" was created in support of the Confederacy.
This flag should fly during the Preakness.

This is the Crossland Banner, the symbol of Calvert's mother's family.
But not as much compare VA. And I think they may have been more people that fought with the Virginia CSA the Confederacy militias.
