  • We've shown you quite a few turbo LS Commodores over the years but Chris' SS is one very sweet sounding street car. We'll see how it performs on the Allsparks Performance chassis dyno and then see if Chris can put a number down at the track.
Released around 15 years ago, the Holden VX SS Commodore was factory powered by the Gen 3 5.7L V8 engine making around 300hp. Chris' 2001 example is now upgraded with a larger LSX 7L engine built by Flowcraft Race Engines which features Brodix cylinder heads and a solid roller camshaft.
Boost comes from a Precision 88mm turbocharger, but as the GM computer is still in place boost will be limited to around 20psi. The fuel system is also E85 compliant. Backing up the engine is a Hasty Auto Trans Powerglide, but the weak point at present is the rear end. The factory Holden IRS is retained with the only improvement being a full spool centre.

Freakshow. Love how the head lights are even straining under a full power run. That's just plain scary for a street car.

Ross Palmer Nothing sleeper about a solid cam. Nothing sleeper about the sound of a turbo. There is absolutely NOTHING sleeper about that car.

Was just watching this again and wanted to ask something. At the end of each pull, the car sounds and behaves like it's just hit the limiter a bit, but the in car shot show that the tach goes way higher in the beginning of the run as the converter slips and as the convt starts to equalize the wheel and engine speed the rpm get pulled back down. My question is, what was going on here??? Were the guys running out of ramp speed or something (they can only do around a 4000rpm pull throughout a dyno run in my experience- at least with engine dynos that's the case) 'cause when the car sounds like it's on the limiter, it's not revving as hard as it did while the convt was slipping.

So the low boost setting is ONLY pushing twice it's displacement at atmospheric.
    That's like a shit ton

Martin McMartin He's right, Holden never built taxi's in this era (taxi spec cars generally have extra seem welding and a few other bits and pieces different). Falcons were the choice of this era in Australia

@@orion5813 south Australia had heaps of commy taxis, more than any other make. Makes sence as we produced them here. Cop cars were all commys as well here. Hope I cleared that up for you mate.
