As a Samoan I usually watch Indonesian culture out of curiosity because Polynesians in the Pacific migrated from this beautiful country, the similarities in culture is fascinating
As Okinawan, I found some connection to Gamelan. I love this : melodic scale of Okinawan Traditional Music is same to Gamelan scale. Pentatonic Scale, dropping D and A. Our ancestors connected across the sea. It is so beautiful and reassuring to feel the musical connection!
The amazing Balinese culture deserves more Unesco recognitions! I know its Subak system and traditional dances like this have been accorded the status. Just looking at the costumes and the musical instruments in this video, you could see a lot of delicate art and craft works. I have also seen Kecak, Barong, Legong, Tari Pendet in Ubud as well as Ogoh Ogoh parade. Then, you have many stunning and often vastly different temples dating back from 11th centuries that are still well maintained and in use today. The Balinese garden and architecture is also second to none in the region I have been to more than 50 towns & cities in 9 South East Asia countries, but Bali always takes my breath away after 40+ visits. The other places I have not repeated visits more than 3 times. Lots of love from Malaysia to Indonesia and its people!
I dearly love Barong and Hanuman the white monkey. As for Gamelan ensemble, I sit there frozen mesmerised, all the thousand performers are not only together in rhythm but the rhythm moves subtly to accommodate dancers.
I would have thought the astonishing achievements Balinese people's have made in a bewildering array of crafts (not least metal Gong casting) would have already been properly acknowledged by UNESCO..?
indonesia rich in art n culture, tribe, natural resource, and others. I feel proud to be part of this beautiful country, may god bless Indonesia for.prousperity n peace
@Thomas Myles thank you...keep coming to our country...it helps us preserve the culture by mean tourism...it sad and bitter but that is the fact...a hungry belly can not sing...
I'm real bainese people stay in boreno due to job, i can't play the gamelan, but if i hear the gamelan ...like this my tears comes down..i miss my family in Bali..
Amazing sync ! and (one handed?) syncopations just terrific and impeccable....on the Gamelan !!! so many similarities in art n dance forms acrooss the globe ! simply shows how ONE we all are ... AMAZING !!
I notice that often thoughout the music, there is a light 'organ-type' sound, in the background. Does anyone know how that sound is being created? I don't see an 'organ', but yet, it sounds very organ-like....
Its the gong of diffrent sizes the smaller set known as 'kenong', im not music theorist but perhaps the way its shaped will resonance the 'humming' organ-like sound. I hope that help
there's 2 type organ-type instruments in this group, its call jegogan and calung. this components bring's the main melody with diffrent beat, calung and the main instrument ugal plays the same melody and jegogan plays the 4th note as same as calung. calung and jegogan have that sound cause the tools that used to play the instrument made by materials that impact soft and deep sound, its diffrent with another beat-play instrument at the front that prefer using wood tools to play and make the sound stronger and hi-beat.
If it's fairly regular, it's jegog/jegoogan, the bassiest/deepest of the flat bronze bar instruments. If it's periodic (once every 30-90 seconds), then it's the big gong you see hanging in the background.
Whats the name of the song? My grandma was born on Bali, I'm loving this song and style of music. Sadly she already passed away so she never got to see me discover this music on my own.

The austronesians in infonesia mingled with austro asians thats why they have intermingled their cultures

Just love the precision of gamelan orchestra synchronizing with Balinese dance movements.

Might just be the Tongan in me, but I prefer hearing this type of orchestra more than classical European orchestras ❤❤ Austronesian gang 🇹🇴 🇮🇩
Bali has many different types of traditional music according to the type of ceremony activities.
It was an impressive experience. They have managed to preserve almost every aspect of Bali very well.
Love u hindu bali from Nepal

amazing. I miss Bali.
I can only imagine the first Europeans to view this culture must have had their minds blown.
Must be a mystical and esoteric experience. Damn, I can only imagine the Dutch after they've taken over Bali and discovered this exotic culture.
I know Claude Debussy was heavily influenced by this music.
well the dutch war wth balinese....

Amazing but scary at the same time...
Scary why?
mystical yes
Our culture has mystical ambience in it, that’s why you feel a bit scared. But there’s nothing to fear, it’s just the characteristic of Bali’s dances
I like that roof.

People who post content like this with ZERO credit for the performers or composers, are terrible people.
Why they are so professional but seem has no enthusiasm
Because this is their everyday life
that curse of profesionalism 😅
