You should listen to some older songs for some substance. His substance seems to be leaving him as he gets bigger in my opinion. Still like his music though.
@@markoilic2940 I agree, Confetti and Loose had some pretty good tracks on them that I have in my rotation. I don't really blame him for riding the hype wave at the moment. I just hope he keeps progressing because I'm rooting for him as he is a true grassroots artist that I've been able to watch grow into himself.
Well his substance has gone backwards as he's gotten famous lol. Listen to "Eastern Parkway" which he dropped like 5 years ago. Maybe he'll return to that, who knows, but he's making way too much money right now to do so imo.
Jack’s just smooth. He’s never gonna be in any GOAT conversation but he makes catchy music that has enough bars to where you can respect his lyrics too.
It's a bit odd as I have been listening to Harlow for years, and his lyrical talent is definitely there in his older tracks and you'd think it would become better with time. It seems that he is trying to appeal to the masses with catchy rhymes and verses rather than a clever lyrical ensemble. Perhaps we'll see Harlow return to his previous writing style later on
The hook was really nice, but it's just Industry Baby 2.0 without Nas X. It was alright in my opinion. I think his flow and bars are cool, but he's not pushing it to the next level that he could to prove himself. He's playing it a bit too safe.
i think he’s comfortable with where he’s at rn, tryna make a bag by making himself appealing to the masses while keeping integrity with some pretty okay bars. give him a few more years i could see him really developing himself. i feel like jack is that leader of the new wave that everyone thought cordae was gonna be
@@laranja5678 i ain’t sayin cordae is, i’m saying that’s what people thought, like he was gonna usher in the new wave of mainstream lyricists. while i wouldn’t say jack is a lyricist, he says a lot more with a lot less compared to cordae. mainstream hip hop being ran by trap with guys like lil baby, youngboy, carti, travis, takin over completely. underground doing hella good rn though i agree

For him to say no one in his generation is fucking with him, I needed to see a major evolution musically with this track, and this wasn’t it. This is on par with “What’s Poppin’” and “Tyler Herro”, and didn’t change my opinion on Jack at all, which is he’s a good rapper with slick bars and a smooth flow, but limited prowess as an overall songwriter and lacking in substance. He’s got a long way to go before he can be considered best of his generation.

I agree with Jon in terms of Jacks presence and confidence is more profound than cordae but I think in terms of being in the conversation in years to come and deliver music that has lasting substance, cordae surpasses Jack on that one
no one cares about cordae tho, yeah he has good bars, but this isnt the 90's bruh. People want to hear vibey and good music to the ears, not lyrical shit about politics and other shit like that. We already got j cole anyways
@@litty406 I mean you can’t just say someone’s who likes more vibey music is slow, Like Im a music producer and I go off vibes when I make music. That’s kind of the point of music, to catch a flow that everyone can hear and vibe to, not being lyrical. Take Eminem for example. He usually raps 50 word lines on a shitty beat and people praise him for it just cuz he had a bunch of metaphors and hidden meanings. Tbh it just doesn’t sound good, it’s just too much, too many words, too many annoying metaphors, that’s not the purpose of music. You can have hidden meanings and cool metaphors but the rappers who overdo it like cordae, Eminem etc end up sounding like they’re rapping a college essay
I get it,you want vibes that’s fine but if you get on a beat and say a whole lot of stuff without actually saying anything that’s where it’s different,That’s what makes em j cole Kendrick etc the best, yeah Jack cool he got vibes and a cool hook in him but he ain’t saying anything crazy or with meaning, you can say cordae ain’t as relevant or as popping but if you got to his album even the lost boy he’s actually saying some shit
I really want to like him but there is just something about him that I can’t get over. I think he sounds good but sometimes his lyrics and flow is awkward
I think at the moment there’s 3 generations around in mainstream music: The oldest so Nas, Snoop, Dre, 50, biggie, etc (ik I’m missing some out and these aren’t perfect) Middle generation: Kanye, drake, Cole, Kendrick, jay z (these two could be in the older one too) travis, Abel, Nicki, kid Cudi, a boogie etc Current or youngest: (obvs the middle generation still release, and even the oldest) : jack harlow, polo g, baby (both of them 🤣) gunna, lil tjay, 6lack, cordae, baby keem, roddy, don toliver When u split it like that then jack harlow could easily put his name in the best for that generation, needs time and a seriously fucking good album this year, but he’s there at least
Honestly hoping his next album pops off. His debut was wishy washy to me. Didn't really feel like it had any theme or direction. I started listening to him around the time he had just dropped Loose. He just seemed like he was on something when he dropped Confetti and Loose. Hoping we get some more of rap Jack because those last two projects before his debut were crazy good. Start to finish.
Thought it was a bit too generic I'm missing this little thing that I'm looking for in a BOP. He is Relying too much on what he's done in the past and isn't reinventing hisself when he has the tools (personality, flow etc) to do it. Decent track but not great
I think when it comes to jack harlow’s talents and capabilities judging from this comment section as well as other ones, everyone tries to pick their words carefully or coddle him because they like him personally but the fact is this was average.
I think Jack's flow is impeccable - but he sacrifices some punchlines and clever wordplay in order to execute it. I also think he should do less interviews and stay in the studio more. Fire track but if it was 'track #7' on an album, would you be thinking it was a single? Dude needs to put down the groupies and write more. I can see him slipping if he doesn't.... and after 2 years, he needs to back this up with an album, which I doubt he's worked on.
I disagree, if this were "Track #7" on his album, I would think, "Why isnt this a single?" He also had some nice punchlines too, so idk what you mean by sacrificing it for flow, when he has a pretty good balance in general. Jack doesnt need to be stuck in a studio to get better either. Idk if you make music or not, but staying in the studio making track after track will stunt your creativity. Going out, doing interviews, collabing with other artists, making connections, traveling the world, thats how you stay creative and relevant and dont end up sounding generic asf.
