We played this at every basketball game in jazz band, but at about 1/2 speed. Still one of my favorites. (Stretching the song out a bit ) and it still sounded great, either speed...🙂 A very great song to play and appreciate.
My band director was NOT happy with me when he found out I couldn't play the keyboard part... if he had just sent me a recording of this hoke with me... it sounds so much simpler than it's written! Argh... if only I could go back to 1987... 😭 the horn section wanted to SO play this. Remember it like it was yesterday...
Paden City High School Stage Band 1980. I used to love (and hate) Nestico charts. They were always so challenging and hard to learn, but when we got it, it was SO satisfying to hear everything "click"...
I was a music education major and had to take 2 years of lessons on brass, woodwind and percussion instruments outside my major (French horn) and be tested on them took a level of being able to teach. I have a pretty good idea. Although I completely agree that tenor solo is extremely difficult, but I gotta defend my trumpets because the parts are by no means easy..
I couldn't remember who this song was by when I first began searching for it. Led me to some garbage dubstep shit that made my ears bleed. This is real music.
A sax player that just moved their fingers without adjusting their lip have no room to talk, comparing to the whaling trumpet parts and all the runs which are MUCH harder for brass instruments than woodwind.

Used to drum this stuff back in the mid eighties, high school jazz band. Still drum today. A real burner!

Dronesword Productions same tenor is amazing
I must not have searched for this since 2012. Thanks for uploading!
I love Pressure Cooker! We played that in high school jazz band!

I'm not totally sure but that sounds like the late great Louie Bellson on the drums!
Sure is! :)
membranophone: Louie Bellson
piano: Pete Jolly
saxophone: Robert Hardaway
@@patrickverda8926Louie "smoked" on this chart.

Which band/musicians were playing in this recording?
Oh my GOD! WOW
I used to play this back in the 90s in highschool and someone stole the cd. For the love of God I cannot find this album or remember the name of it.

Sounds like you've never played the saxophone.. There's plenty of movement with your mouth and your embouchure..
trumpets only have 3 valves, saxes have many keys
Stop.
This is your 4th comment and you still sound stupid as fuck. Shut up
