      You are right. Im “mid level”, working on big codebases, AI is USELESS for such tasks. You will quickly realise you need at least basic general intelligence to be able to work on a slightly big project on your own without a help, and AI is far away from being intelligent.

    • @fabriciofla8019
      @fabriciofla8019 9 месяцев назад +46

      I think most of you are missing the point. Of course AI will not replace developers. The thing is, with the help of an AI, a junior developer is 2, 3x times more efficient than it was before. Do the math, if you have 10 devs and now they are accomplishing the same tasks 2 to 3 times faster, how many devs the company needs to get the same amount of work done?

    • @Mohammed-bz8lt
      @Mohammed-bz8lt 9 месяцев назад +1

      @holowise3663 I think more specifically, ai is created for the same reason the industrial revolution took off. Its for the increased productivity and efficiency at cheaper costs. That's why the British destroyed industries in colonised lands like textile making, so that they can sell their cheap wears more easily.
      The thing to note here is that the big winners are always the extremely wealthy. In most of the west (aleast in US and here in UK), real world wage increase when adjusting for inflation had not occurred in over 50 years! And the tech sector didn't generate a huge amount of Wealth for everyone. It just generated extreme wealth for a extremely small minority of people who became the 0.1%.

      I recommend getting a degree in compsci or computer engineering if you don't have one instead. Job market for tech sucks now and even people with degrees are having a tough time finding work. By the time you finish a degree 3-4 years the market will probably be better and you'll be much more competitive than bootcamp graduates.

    I don't agree with the notion that ai will create an egalitarian society. I think that is idealist thinking and usually big tech (fang) peddle this line of thinking to pacify people's anxieties about how the world will be changed by huge faceless corporations.
    We've already seen with the loss of privacy and data how big tech is not for the ordinary people or his well being. With ai, just like the factories of the industrial era, the big data warehouses, the computing power, the algorithms etc will all be owned by big tech. They'll just become so rich that in essence we will live in a new dystopian feudalism where the rich are extremely rich and the rest are poor with their privacy, data being sold to the highest bidder.

      Manual labor isn’t going anywhere,even in case of complete transformation through ai, you will always need operator for very least.. ...in reality people some times replace ai with agi ( artificial general intelligence) which is still a very distant dream and will require decades to get materialize....so this ai supremacy is just fear mongering in public sphere...modern ai systems are data driven, so any corruption in database will make ai into Shiite...people consider blockchain as database solution to ai without realizing the fact that blockchain isn’t as real time and has huge scalability issues...cloud and fog computing has its issue as well

I've worked on small to large codebases and it's INCREDIBLY hard to reason about systems without lots of business context, architecture knowledge, prior decision reasoning etc. - The best thing that is currently happening is that AI is helping with more granular mundane tasks and generating boiler plate with the help of patterns already in the codebase. Likewise, you can speak to it to help you understand a problem better and faster. It will make you a better engineer, not make you lose your job lmao.

    AI is to be considered as a Tool only,
    When Calculators were invented , then same thoughts were among people that Mathematicians and Maths teachers may lose jobs, People even protested in troops. But no, They do our work easy and fast. We use calculator to do calculations fast and we know the concept of solving behind that calculation. I mean if we add a list of grocery, already we know what is addition and what is + and how to add things. It is Just for speed . same way AI will also work as tool and make us more productive. Ultimately we need to think that , We humans created computers , Now AI, we are much better than it in all ways. So keep coding , improve your skills in maths and coding areas, Proud to be a Developer.

      You don't need them. Don't let these idiots scare you. This fool is talking out of his ass. Software Engineering isn't changing anywhere near as fast as these RUclipsrs claim.

    1. AI is here to stay. If you don't use it, you will be lightyears behind those who do in a couple of years. Use it to code and learn.
    2. AI will become a part of tech stacks / workflows and will be required as a skill even in entry level positions someday.
    3. Architecture will become more and more granular and separated, as well as more simplified, so the LLM produced code can fit in easier and it would be quicker for business to iterate on applied solutions.
    4. Juniors and Middles will merge into one class of "foot soldiers", as mentioned in the video, but it would be okay for them. Boost of productivity by AI will just create more tasks from business, and not kill the demand for programmers.

    • @chrisstucker1813

      Yeah I think you could be right about AI being here to stay. Imagine someone in the year 2024 still programming in assembly code while everyone else is using Java, C++ and Python etc. They would never get stuff done and would be incredibly less productive. In other words, they'd get left behind - which is what I imagine will happen to those in the near future who aren't using some form of AI assistance.
