Another top explore Neil. Great finds too! I think that thing that you thought was off of a locomotive was part of the gong arrangement for one of the signals in the tunnel. These were used to alert the driver with an audible sound of the approach to a signal that would otherwise be difficult to sight. I know Mansfield Road Tunnel definitely had a gong in it, so this is likely some remnants of that.

Mansfield Road tunnel still had trains running through it in May 1968.
