Today we are unboxing the first 2 Advent Calendars of the season! This year we are starting things off with 2 E.L.F calendars. These calendars have a pretty heart price tag but are (very much so) lacking in the value department! What do you guys think of these calendars? let me know! Love ya💖

You know, elf has a lot of really nice, affordable products in both their make up and skincare lines, and some of their brushes are as good or even better than MODA, Real Techniques and other comparable brands. My first brushes were by elf, and some are still in great shape. My point? They could put together a really great advent calendar, but of course, they didn't. It can only get better from here (she says timidly)?? No Sephora.
I believe Elf's target audience for these is dads who have no idea what to buy their teenage daughter for the holidays, stare confusedly at the stacks of beauty advent calendars for 10 minutes, and then finally think "well this one is the shiniest" and grab it
I would also like to add for target audience that it's parents who are getting their teenage daughters beginning makeup. They're probably thinking "well, this will probably offer them more than me picking something".
While the value of these wasn’t great, I feel like a lot more thought went into the items than you see with Sephora and some others. I love that you got a full eyeshadow palette for the last day!
I got this on 40% sale and I’m so glad I did. It’s also nice that elf is cruelty free and vegan and there’s not many options out there fulfilling those criteria’s.
Alexandria’s advent calendar season is akin to the launch of Starbucks festive drinks, as a truly great signal that the winter festive season is upon us. Not joking, Sephora release date should be a national holiday.
I feel like this advent calendar is made exclusively for young tween/teen girls who are just getting into makeup and may not know what they like yet. Gives them the opportunity to try things one at a time and glitter, so much glitter!
Unless they offer color customization online, company's should not put brow products in advent calendars. Clear brow gel is probably the only exception.
Anything that requires a match! I’ve seen some (rarely though) that got concealers and such in an advent calendar, like, good for the 10% of people it’ll work for but what about the rest??
Or an alternative: Put little codes in the calendar so that you can choose the color from the website. Only for the things that MUST be matched, not lipsticks or eyeshadows and such.
I feel if they added some of their “Jelly” products, bigger brushes, or some of their bigger sprays or mists it would have made the boxes just a little bit better.
I'd be interested to know how much the items would cost if you bought all the items separately now. As you say, ELF often have sales and stuff........Ok... I checked on the elf website US version.. and the first one comes to $52.. not including shipping or any promo codes.. and the 2nd one came to $95.40 again, not including shipping or any promo codes. Some of the items weren't available so I added an equivalent priced item. Also. The swirly case eye shadow comes in a pack of 3 for $10 so I added an item for $4... Also. The eye shadow palette (day 24) didn't show on the website.. (maybe last season's.. 🤔)...so I added a different one. I am now going to get myself a life... You're welcome.
In the middle of summer Elf did a 50% off sale, no exclusions. Both of these calendars are way overpriced. You did make me laugh at the no life comment, I've looked up prices of other advent calendars. 😂😂

At some point I would love to see a, "Products That Made Me Eat My Words," video where you feature make up shades or skincare products you decided to go ahead and try, even though you thought you'd hate it or it would be bad quality and were actually pleasantly surprised by. Of course I'd also want to see a try on of said products, or even a full face of products you're surprised you love. Anything that initially made you skeptical would be welcome.
So I got the 24 day ELF advent calendar last year and this years is EXACTLY the same as last years. The only thing different was the lash and eyebrow serum.

Pro tip: use a screwdriver to get into the advent calendars. Sharp edges will pierce the box, and you can use the screwdriver to wedge out the products. No abrasive stabbing motions required.

I always said they should make Avent calendars for like light skin tone, medium skin tone and dark skin tone. This way you can pick and have a better chance of the items working with you. Better then just universal.
I agree so much! I’m fair skinned, with an olive/yellow undertone but some stuff can easily look horrible on me. I can’t do pinks at all and super frosty stuff isn’t the best on me. I do better with champagne, coral, golds. They definitely need to have more options for sure
Alternate use for the brow pencil: draw on worry lines and age crinkles for when you play an old lady in a musical. As a blonde, that's the only use I have for it. But I do own one for purposes previously described (got it for a buck at dollar tree) Where are the theater kids at?
Theatre "kid" here. Once when I was broke but had to have contour and dirt makeup for a touring show I was in, I used elf eyeshadow because it was all I could afford XD
I expected a full set of brushes. They would cost pennies for them but would have been way more cool than a sad single brush. Your sass was well deserved.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The rhinestones were close to an “It’s a keychain” moment. I appreciate these reviews. Elf has so much full size stuff it could put in there and still take on a pretty good profit on these. Don’t these companies understand that they could get us hooked on some of their products through these? 🤦♀️

I know the rhinestones and the price of the larger advent calendar are pretty disappointing but I actually really liked everything in it, the stuff are so cute! But I get the feeling it’s probably geared more towards moms who want to buy their 16 year old daughters something super cute for the holidays because the value is not worth it but the experience might be. Other calendars can provide great value, because their products are so overpriced to start with. Elf isn't overpriced, so there isn't a lot of wiggle room on these sets. I'd rather get great value on the things I buy everyday, rather than on an Advent calendar once a year.
I totally agree with you. The sentiment of so many other here is "Argh! How dare they sell me a $100 calendar with less then $400 valued products inside and all full sized products tailored especially for me!" Meanwhile this video slammed the products while more then half of them she gushed over. Spoiled Karen vibe all I'm getting.
I like that these advent calendars do put “better” items toward the end. The ones that are the same throughout or random seem to disappoint in the end.
Especially with Black Friday and season sales- you could choose things individually that you know you’re going to love and actually USE! Or get a mix of gifts and personal items

No usually they don't sell and gets like a 50% off right after advant season, so i think they still want to profit in that stage so they come up with a higher price. I know nyx boxes always does that so i never get it until January or February Edit spelling
Literally. The only "value" sets or "collections" I pick up at the holidays are the ones I know aren't going to make it to clearance days... everything else goes on my loves list for 60% off times... lol
@@gabbygabs5107 Usually ELF themselves have a sale around Black Friday but I got mine from Superdrug in the UK. They had 50%+ off Revolution and some other calendars when I looked the other day. You just have to keep checking and be willing to 'miss out' by leaving it until closer to Christmas.
I liked the colors that they included in general. I felt like they all went together nicely but I'm not sure if that was intentional or because like you said they just add the same colors/shades in these calendars. I also like how in the first one they basically added everything you would need for a full face besides the foundation and stuff because that would be a lot harder to add in but I think you could definitely use everything you got in the advent calendar for a full one day look if that makes any sense.
One of the things I love about elf is how small their markups are. I think this just doesn't translate well to an advent calendar, where the tradeoff for a steep discount is the lack of choice.
As a redhead, I always struggle to find an Advent calendar with any brow or skin products I can use so a lot of the time I pass on the makeup calendars and just buy them on sale after Christmas and give away the products I won’t use

Smell and taste are pretty hardcore related XD It's also why cats open their mouth when they smell things, they have smell receptors in their mouth. I'm sure we do to a lesser extent.
Not sure what ones you've already bought, but I was in Trader Joe's 2 days ago and they had a 12 Day Advent Calendar that had body products (like lotions and soaps) for about $20, if you wanted to grab it. (they also had ones with treats for dogs, and one for cats...and Aldi's had a Cheese Advent Calendar, but that's getting off topic!)

Ok I just started using the elf lash serum and I am in love!!! I could tell a difference with my lashes after only a week or two and my lashes are looking longer and fuller! I use it just about every day now!!! I was surprised because I had used a different lash serum before and didn’t really notice a difference but this one I did for sure!

I've said this before but I believe the prices are around 2x what they are for black Friday and that's why the value is low for this price. If the big one is supposed to go for $50 with a value of over $100 that's not too bad but they make them available at regular price so they can sucker people who buy them early lol

Other calendars can provide great value, because their products are so overpriced to start with. Elf isn't overpriced, so there isn't a lot of wiggle room on these sets. I'd rather get great value on the things I buy everyday, rather than on an Advent calendar once a year.

I like that these advent calendars do put “better” items toward the end. The ones that are the same throughout or random seem to disappoint in the end.

Especially with Black Friday and season sales- you could choose things individually that you know you’re going to love and actually USE! Or get a mix of gifts and personal items
I've never seen an ELF advent calendar for more than half price (at least here in the UK). I wonder if its one of those situations where its only people who pre-order end up paying full price. 🤔
No usually they don't sell and gets like a 50% off right after advant season, so i think they still want to profit in that stage so they come up with a higher price. I know nyx boxes always does that so i never get it until January or February

@@gabbygabs5107 Usually ELF themselves have a sale around Black Friday but I got mine from Superdrug in the UK. They had 50%+ off Revolution and some other calendars when I looked the other day. You just have to keep checking and be willing to 'miss out' by leaving it until closer to Christmas.
I liked the colors that they included in general. I felt like they all went together nicely but I'm not sure if that was intentional or because like you said they just add the same colors/shades in these calendars. I also like how in the first one they basically added everything you would need for a full face besides the foundation and stuff because that would be a lot harder to add in but I think you could definitely use everything you got in the advent calendar for a full one day look if that makes any sense.

One of the things I love about elf is how small their markups are. I think this just doesn't translate well to an advent calendar, where the tradeoff for a steep discount is the lack of choice.

As a redhead, I always struggle to find an Advent calendar with any brow or skin products I can use so a lot of the time I pass on the makeup calendars and just buy them on sale after Christmas and give away the products I won’t use

Smell and taste are pretty hardcore related XD It's also why cats open their mouth when they smell things, they have smell receptors in their mouth. I'm sure we do to a lesser extent.
Not sure what ones you've already bought, but I was in Trader Joe's 2 days ago and they had a 12 Day Advent Calendar that had body products (like lotions and soaps) for about $20, if you wanted to grab it. (they also had ones with treats for dogs, and one for cats...and Aldi's had a Cheese Advent Calendar, but that's getting off topic!)
She got the Trader Joe’s beauty one! I’m dying to see her open it. She had a video showing all the advents this was gonna open for us on the channel.

Ok I just started using the elf lash serum and I am in love!!! I could tell a difference with my lashes after only a week or two and my lashes are looking longer and fuller! I use it just about every day now!!! I was surprised because I had used a different lash serum before and didn’t really notice a difference but this one I did for sure!

I've said this before but I believe the prices are around 2x what they are for black Friday and that's why the value is low for this price. If the big one is supposed to go for $50 with a value of over $100 that's not too bad but they make them available at regular price so they can sucker people who buy them early lol

It's like they looked at the Sephora and Mac advent calender and were like we are going to do something similar but add eyeshadow pallets for value!
