    No one really talks about the capital one portal for everyday bookings. It's great for simplicity, tracks flight prices (backed by Hopper) and the price match for hotel bookings is amazing! You can price match to the most shady websites and still book directly with Capital One and score 10x points.

      I had a great experience using it for booking in Europe. Easy credit to use and I always check their prices before I book

      Not to mention you also get the 10x for the TC as well. So it's actually like $330 TC if you book a hotel. Plus I got in on the launch so I also have the $200 VRBO credit to use with 5% back. So far the VX has been a great daily card with usable credits and seems to just be getting better.

    Got the Venture X when it first came out almost a year ago and couldn't be happier! The card pays for itself + the Hertz President's circle lets you match over to the other rental car companies too. The addition of Virgin as a travel partner is also big, opening the doors to sweet spots like ANA.

    • @SolidLiquidFox
      @SolidLiquidFox Год назад +4

      Ritz card is a better value proposition for me than CSR from the standpoint of AF and benefits. It's not a card to put heavy spend on, but I'll take CSR benefits and the best Priority Pass for $450. This is the best example that the CSR is broken and Chase just doesn't want to fix it. A card like the Ritz wouldn't exist otherwise.

    One thing to consider is that capital one portal uses Hopper technology. That alone will get you almost to the lowest price on flights and on top of that they actually have a price match feature that you could use within 7 days off booking (which is 10 points/dollar)!

    I'm sure everyone's mileage will vary, but I had no problems getting approved for the Venture X (credit score of ~760-770) with a $30k credit limit. I like how I can get plenty of travel benefits without having to worry about a high annual fee. Capital One is basically paying you to keep the card (AF +$5) if you consider the $300 travel credit + 10k points/anniversary.

    Grabbed te Venture X early in the year, when the 100k bonus was active. With the miles added, I booked an International trip for practically 60% less than the ticket price. Used the annual travel credit already, and Capital One Shopping extention saved me much money on regular buys online. I can actually save 11% booking on Vrbo using the extention, instead of the travel portal for a hotel. I don't plan on getting another card for many years, but I love this as my Primary.

    Does it make sense to get a new credit card before a vacation? For instance if you know you're going to spend a ton on dining and travel (uber and lyft) while there? Wondering if I should do so to get an easy jump into a new sign-up bonus like the AMEX gold.
    Or does it make sense to wait for the sapphire preferred to come out with a higher sign up later this year?
    Thanks, Sebby!

    I mainly am focused on AMEX (Platinum + Gold setup) but I also have a Venture X and a CSP. As you mentioned in this and prior videos, the Venture X is a no brainer if you take one trip a year (I even applied it through card match on your site). $300 travel credit, Priority Pass, and we'll see what Hertz Presidential Circle does in a month or two when I use it :)
    CSP is great for like doordash and I enjoyed the Peloton credits back when that was still a thing. Still mulling a upgrade to the CSR, but harder case to make with the Venture X

    So I've been going back and forth if it's worth keeping the CSR (the Venture X is basically free so it's a no brainer.) However, the Venture X lack of multipliers on spending and travel redeeming makes the CSR worth if you spend more than $10,000 on dining/travel.
    Using the Venture X would only give you $200 to redeem in travel, while the CSR would give you $450, a delta of $250 USD. The CSR annual fee is $250 after the $300 travel credit, therefore it is still worth keeping as a travel card if you spend >$10,000 on dining/travel. If you plan on spending less than than $10,000 on dining/travel then downgrading to the CSP is the better move.
    I am now analyzing if it's worth using the AMEX Platinum card, but I will eventually get around to it.

    I will still keep the CSR. Booking through the portal only works if you are sure about the travel and need no change. Otherwise it will be a headache and could mess up your itinerary whenever you book through a third party like the portal. In contrast Chase gives 3 points for travel however you use it. The 3pts dining also comes valuable when you travel internationally because Amex is rarely accepted outside the U.S.

      I think Chase is resting on its laurels and treating CSR as a safe middle of the road choice for premium travel cards. Even if it’s vanilla and not groundbreaking like it was when it launched. They can distinguish themselves by saying that Venture X is too new (not tested and proven, not only the product but also customer service) and Amex Plat is too expensive and not accepted as widely. Not to mention the hard to use credits.

    Does it make sense to have the CSR and Venture X?

  • @FlintIronstag23
    @FlintIronstag23 Год назад +11

    It does seem silly that the CSR doesn't have any permanent hotel statuses attached to it. Chase has three hotel chains it co-brands with while Capital One has zero. It would be a perk that the Venture X couldn't match. A CSR with Marriott and IHG gold and Hyatt Discoverist would also compete well with the Amex Platinum which only has two hotel statuses.
    If they added Hyatt Discoverist to the CSR, they would probably need to launch a new premium $450 annual fee Hyatt card that would offer Explorist status. That way they would have a co-branded Hyatt card that offers more than the CSR would give.

    • @adamwang6715

    • @adamwang6715
      @adamwang6715 Год назад

      @@FlintIronstag23 Worded that a little weirdly. I'm just talking about the multipliers that the CSR would exceed the WOH card with. Better Dining, Travel (WOH has transit/flights) earnings along with status that if booking through the portal ironically out-earns WOH too. Only thing the card would be good for is loyalty/status and of course the FNC. I just can't see them making their own card obsolete to many people.

    • @FlintIronstag23
      @FlintIronstag23 Год назад

      @@adamwang6715 Yeah, that's why I said Chase would probably also need to release a premium $450 Hyatt card if the CSR got Discoverist. The premium card could earn 10-12 points for Hyatt stays(5-7 bonus + 5 base points) and 3 points for restaurants and flights to be equal with the CSR in those two categories. Plus it would have Explorist status. Both Hilton and Marriott have $95 and $450 cards so I don't know why Hyatt couldn't have both mid-level and premium cards.

    Today I called capital one customer service today . I asked to product change my venture card to a venture one card since I don’t want to pay annual fee. The Customer service person said that I could not do that. I asked for a supervisor, and I spoke to a supervisor who also said I could not probably change at this time. What are my options to keep card and not pay an annual fee? I’ve been a customer since 2006. In other words they would not let me downgrade to a no fee card.

Venture X and Amex Gold are my two daily drivers when it comes to spend though, barely anything outside hotel bookings is going on my CSR right now.

I haven't used their travel customer service, but Chase's is pretty terrible. So, while Chase reserve portal offers more value--the ease of using the capital one portal is great.

Not only it solved the problem Amex priority pass is trash since you can’t use it at restaurants in airports, but also all your authorized users get free priority passes too! Lucky my remote cousins! The $300 travel credits are so much easier use compared to the Amex incidental credits. Rental car insurance is primary same as the CSR. I had CSR since 2016 but downgraded after I got the VentureX. If CSR added airline status for Delta or United, I might be convinced to stay with CSR rather than changing to VX. I currently have the Chase Trifecta but I think the primary advantage (without the coupon bloat) is really just the 150% redemption of points on their Expedia portal. I've used it a couple times in a pinch, but with the points transfer there just isn't too much there with CSR and the other two. I'll be going for VX and Premier combo (already have the Premier, then adding VX after I hit the spend bonus for Premier). Since they have very similar airline transfer partners it just makes sense as far as I can see.
    It just seems like Chase is trying to take down AMEX Plat by adding as many coupons as they can? I guess....? I just don't get what they're trying to do with the direction they're going. Although, if CSR added ANA as a transfer partner (or even JAL) then I'd definitely stay simply for their award availability and lack thereof regarding partner award slots and Platinum is the only card ANA partners with.
