I grew up in Saskatoon and recently moved away to Cranbrook 5 months ago. The cost of living here is crazy, houses are unaffordable and the rental market is so competitive due to lack of housing. Wages are good, but there is nowhere to live and everything is more expensive, making them irrelevant. I have already been thinking about moving back, and I believe this video has helped me finalize that decision, thank you for that. BC is beautiful, but I think it's a great place to visit. Saskatchewan is a great place to live, especially Saskatoon.

One year later the housing in Saskatoon is no longer affordable thanks to people coming in from the bigger cities buying up all the affordable housing and charging rent for one floor of a house that is comparable to prices in Vancouver or Toronto. The average person here does not make $100,000 a year to afford the 30% housing margin. It is ridiculously expensive to live here these days.

    • @ScottZieglerSaskatoon

    Bellingham, WA USA 🇺🇸
Bicycled through there in 2012 making Saskatoon a final bike touring destination in 2018. Absolutely loved it!! Huge streets, great bike access/culture wonderful river and lots of sunshine and space to move around in addition to a great universit and boreal forest to north. Love to move there due to its isolated but self sustaining location much better and cultured than Casper, WY that I'd also consider where i lived before. However, I'd be difficult as an American to immigrate being messy paying taxes to 2 countries in addition to figuring out Healthcare being retired. Not knowing alot, I'm sure I could make it work if I did the research.
And I do look at real estate!!! Too boot, many homes there have finished off basements with no worry of Radon gas like Casper, WY.

How is it for people in the retirement age, over 60? How does the winter compare to Calgary? It looks like the population of the whole province is the same as Calgary. Do you have deliveries of groceries from Instacart, Voilà, UberEATS? How are condo rentals in Saskatoon compared to Calgary?

    • @ScottZieglerSaskatoon

LOL ... but I do miss Saskatoon and the other 3 seasons. It was always something special when the first tangible signs of Spring arrived. Summers are amazing and fall is generally delightful, but you never know what you're going to get. The one fly in the ointment is that the city is growing rapidly, due mainly to immigration. I personally loved the diverse nature of the city, and felt it was, and is, a positive. But the influx tends to cause housing costs to rise, due to demand outstriipping supply. Honestly I’m not sure. I suppose it depends on what type of business and what start up costs you’ll have. But 100k should go along way to getting you a business started. Congrats.

I may have some Cool lebanese Christian friends who want to move there from Beirut Lebanon. One is a construction Engineer, and his wife has a 4 year degree in Accounting. If you could use very talented people who speak multiple languages ect... I'll give them a heads up.

@@ScottZieglerSaskatoon I'm a combat veteran born on a native American reservation went to college for business currently am a asphalt foreman/superintendent at a construction company in the states, I'm married to a very beautiful lebanese Christian woman from Beirut Lebanon. Extremely talented people they are, most of her friends are doctors, lawyers, Engineers, architect's and so on. Very humbling experience meeting with them. But they are very down to Earth and have that old school Christian values and morals. That's why I married outside the U.S.A. got tired of dating shallow American women.

You too can fry in the summer and enjoy one of the coldest winters in the country. In your spare time enjoy the highest or second highest crime rates per capita in Canada. Not much to do or sites to see. And very difficult to find work, while you pay ridiculous rent and house prices on sub standard properties. Lol

Likely leaving Toronto in a few years. Its busy here, its unaffordable, people are miserable, crime is on the rise and politics run the city. I want to get to a more laid back place, where I can have 10 minutes of peace and not have to deal with some month dedicated to a political identity that I am being forced to support. Figure since Saskatchewan is more of a farming province it can give me some of the peace and quiet that I want. Not sure if Saskatoon is the city I'll be living in, but Saskatchewan is the province that has been on my mind for all year as a potential spot to move to. Planning to take a visit out that way when I get some vacation time to scout out the province. I can do all the research on education, healthcare, etc. Nothing like seeing it in person will do for giving it the vibe check.

I would suggest that if you do move to Sask. ... then Saskatoon is probably your best choice. It is generally laid back, calm and peaceful ... yet big enough to offer the amenities and convenience that most people have come to expect.

Saskatoon sounds like an alternative to cartoon. Something that's made in Saskatchewan for children to make them learn to praise the great Saskaboss. Needless to say it's the only thing they are allowed to watch. If a child is caught watching cartoons the family gets imprisoned by the Saskapolice.
"Should've just watch the saskatoons, kid!"

We can’t really comment on the crime or racism but everyone we met seemed very happy to be there.
