@@chandrak1436 I'm Greek, my yiayia and papou came from Greece to live here in Australia back in the 50s. I spent all of my childhood with them, so I've grown up knowing Greek because of them speaking it to me from a young age. I want to learn more of it though.
I'm on holiday in Greece right now and some phrases have been very useful and I want to learn more. I'm told that in Cyprus they speak a different dialect so pronunciation may vary! Thanks for the lesson! efharisto!
You are right, in Cyprus the language is almost completely different, different dialect, way of saying things, different ways to put sentences together, however pretty much all Cypriots can understand Greek as well as Cypriot Greeks, and from my knowledge, a lot can speak Greek too so you shouldn't really have any problems. The only problem is when you go to Greece and have learnt Cypriot Greek, because Greeks don't understand Cypriots almost at all.
I liked this a lot mainly because you get to see the word you are learning so you can pronounce it properly. I was ok in Greece with what I already learned on my own but this would have been a lot more helpful. :D. Thank you! :D
@@Learn_Languages__239 That's a great service. And just to make it clear; Is not read as kuraZmenos instead of kuraSmenos because sigma is read differently according to the sound next? Thank you.
Not really. Basic Greek is pretty much the same as Cypriot Greek - I am currently living in Cyprus with my Cypriot boyfriend and thus learning Greek. There are only a few differences in basic Greek, but it is still understandable. However, everyone speaks English so you don't need to learn it, it's just nice to.

Hello how are you? Thank you for the video! It's really great! I was wondering though, how come when we say efharisto... we hear the letter F being used in that word, but otherwise when written in greek, the alphabet PHI isn't written... this was a bit confusing... :) can someone please explain how come? thank you

No, Ancient Greek is almost an entirely different language, apart from a few words here and there. Even most Greeks/Cypriots won't be able to understand Ancient Greek, however pronunciation, the writing etc was the same as far as I am aware, so Greeks can read it just fine, just unable to understand most of it.
It all depends if a Greek person knows high Greek in addition to everyday Greek. Ancient Greek has different dialects and often different vocabulary and more complicated grammar. Some of the dialects are similar to what is spoken by educated Greeks today. An educated Greek that knows high Greek could understand a lot of the Ancient writings. It is a bit similar to King James English versus street English. It is a matter of education.
