Something I’ve always found fascinating about TWD is how character arcs kinda just go in a circle, it really makes the world feel so much more difficult and hopeless, just look at any season of Rick compared to the next couple, he goes from compassionate to bloodthirsty a few times, in this clip Daryl is his season one self until the end where he uses all his maturity
If anyone doesn't know the context in this scene, Daryl had caught a fantastic croissant maker in the woods and was going to use him for his pastry skills. Laurent didnt want to be replaced for his inferior baking so let the croissant maker go... much to Daryls dismay
It'll get better mate, you'll live a better life than her, & actually have a peaceful afterlife when your ready. Abusers dont get rewarded for their crimes against their lineage, they just get damned.
Laurent, (the kid,) cut the rope to Daryl's boat and it drifted away, stalling them from getting to the "Nest," (a sanctuary,) faster, because Laurent has grown to care for Daryl, and vice versa, Daryl's an awesome man, but Laurent knows Daryl is on a mission, and he won't stay with him after they get there, because Daryl is thinking strictly about protecting the kid and getting them to safety, and then, in that moment, understands that the kid thinks of him as a Father figure, and wants to stay with him, and not be discarded at some "shelter." Daryl is all the kid has. 😢
Three times Daryl acted like this when Sophia died, Hershel died, and now the situation with Rick and Laurent. Judith said the same thing to Daryl is why she didn't tell him that her dad might be alive and that is why their mom left. Yeah Daryl is learning about his family's history and why his grandmother ended up so abusive towards his father because his great grand father died in the war. Daryl like Merle will let it go and save those that matter so they can live in a better world.
