The Statler Brothers (sometimes simply referred to as The Statlers) were an American country music, gospel, and vocal group. The quartet was formed in 1955 performing locally, and from 1964 to 1972, they sang as opening act and backup singers for Johnny Cash.
Originally performing Southern gospel music at local churches, the group billed themselves as The Four Star Quartet, and later The Kingsmen. In 1963, when the song "Louie, Louie" by the garage rock band also called The Kingsmen became famous, the group elected to bill themselves as The Statler Brothers. Despite the name, only two members of the group (Don and Harold Reid) were actual brothers and no member had the surname of Statler. The group actually named themselves after a brand of facial tissue they had noticed in a hotel room (they later quipped that they could just as easily have named themselves "the Kleenex Brothers"). Don Reid sang lead; Harold Reid, Don's older brother, sang bass; Phil Balsley sang baritone; and Lew DeWitt sang tenor and was the guitarist before being replaced due to ill health by Jimmy Fortune in 1982.
The band's style was closely linked to their gospel roots. "We took gospel harmonies," said Harold Reid, "and put them over in country music." Most of their albums contain one gospel song at a minimum, and they produced several containing only gospel. They also recorded a tribute song to The Blackwood Brothers, who influenced their music. The song "We Got Paid by Cash" was written by the Statler Brothers as a tribute to Johnny Cash, who discovered and mentored them.

@@bargainbincinema Who are the 2 fabulous girls blonde and brunette holding the sign and in some the skits occasionally? I have been trying to find out for a long time. IMDB has nothing and wikipedia says only models named Sharon and Tamara. I'd love to know more about them.

Holy cow!! I do not remember this show!! We must have watched something opposite. I LOVE this!!
Love this! ❤️.
My favorite group! Down to earth folks. Got to know them when I lived in Virginia. Ran into Don Reid
Several times
in Harrisonburg Virginia at the Walmart during the time my daughter was attending James Madison University in the 90s. We would talk about anything. I remember one time he was asking me which large decorated container he was looking at that I liked best. You would never think that he was in one of the most awarded acts in country music. I got to know Jimmy Fortune after the Statlers had retired and he was performing at different places in Virginia. He was always interested in my experiences when I served in Vietnam and would talk to me for quite a few minutes after he had performed. He seemed very interested in veterans in general. Great guys! I will never forget them.
BA from Lakeside, Az. Ain’t that a shame is a Fats D song
Yeah. These are all songs by different artists from the 50’s
Several of Pat Boone's early hits were covers of songs originally released by Black artists. His take on Tutti Frutti is cringe-worthy.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Does anyone know who the 2 girls are holding up the sign? The blonde and brunette? Wow they were awesome!

whats wrong with pat doesnt soundright
Wish they’d turned Jimmy down some, he was too overpowering… still love the Statlers!! Got to see them when Reba opened.. and Pat Boone couldn’t really do songs like Little Richards, Boone sucked.
Funny, my dad used to say similar things about Jimmy when he heard Jimmy for the first time on some of the later records we got-he didn’t think Jimmy’s voice blended as well with the group as Lou did on the older recordings. I personally saw the Statler Brothers twice in concert, including on their farewell tour in 2002. When I saw them in Sacramento, one of the people in the audience who was old enough to have seen them with both Lou AND Jimmy said she hated Lou, because he couldn’t stay on pitch. Maybe she only saw Lou in his declining years, I don’t know… I’m too young to have seen them with Lou in concert, so I can’t say. Jimmy seems absolutely fine to me though. (I say this as someone who can only sing in Harold’s and maybe Don’s ranges. 🙁)
You have no taste
