Wow, this Baldvin Oddsson kid has some impressive chops and very pleasing tone. Noticed the flawless circular breathing at 4:32 - nice! Oddsson reminds me of Maurice Andre, who I still consider the pinnacle of the trumpeter's art.
The gold standard remains no doubt Maurice Andre's performance of this oboe concerto on trumpet. Andre was the greatest trumpet player of all time by a distance because of the unique combination of (1) brilliance and (2) effortlessness. This performance is wonderfully effortless. As to brilliance, I would recommend to the player to listen to Andre and see what he can do to get close to the same level of brilliance. I think that he can get closer. Leo Depuydt (Brown University, USA)
Andre also had a unique sound and he never missed. Though in symphony hall, Boston, I heard him play 2 concertos with the BSO to open the season. He had an imperfect attack on a single note. He looked at his horn as if to blame the horn. Only Andre could pull that off.
s'i n'y avait pas eu maurice andré toutes ces oeuvres seraient ignorées et aussi jean Thilde le redécouvreur et le transcripteur nombre de ces concertos sont au départ pour hautbois
Is that an E flat trumpet? Watching his fingers, he is not using the third and first valve tuning slides. I would like to know the make and model trumpet he is playing.
Very nice performance! Just out of curiosity - I thought the soloist looked a bit like the blonde Viola player who was often seen in the background of his close up shots. Are they related?
They probably are, somehow. There are just roughly 330.000 people in Iceland. I am a quarter icelandic, and probably related to half the country, as I can trace my lineage back to the very first norwegian settelers. (Eight century, or thereabouts) 🤔
I don't get it. There are a lot of pieces which are just called like the scales or the tempi within the piece. And if their name is like the scale, you take the scale considering a C instrument. Therefore it is clearly Bb major, even though you play C major on a Bb instrument. I mean the piece sounds the same whether you play it in C on a Bb instrument or in Bb on a C instrument.
Ah, okay. I didn't get the relevance of the tuning in this context, because nobody mentioned whether it is a Bb piccolo or not. I wish you also a good day.
I m not sure this is a picolo(E flat); it could be a clarino(D). That would make sense because the translation for trumpet would be from E major to D major.
I need to correct my previous reply. The transposition would be from B major, not E major. If he is playing an F trumpet, then the transpose would be to C(no flats, no sharps). It is highly likely that he is playing an F trumpet. Somebody needs to get on the phone and ask him.
His name is Baldvin Oddsson and is from Iceland though now he's studying in Manhattan School of Music in New York. This was his third time that he performed with the Iceland Symphony Orhcestra.
encore une fois bravo maurice andré serait fier de vous
this is sound of piccolo trumpet, amazing. The beautiful Barock poulse and style...So "fresch" and maturely sound.BRAVO!
Just such a pleasure to watch and to listen to. So beautiful - he glides over the notes.
There is much joy in this performance both from the solist and the orchestra. Wonderful.

Jaja sí bastante rápida ^^
いいね!
Giovane ma bravo,complimenti.
Is that an E flat trumpet? Watching his fingers, he is not using the third and first valve tuning slides. I would like to know the make and model trumpet he is playing.
He is playing a four-valved Bb piccolo trumpet, in the long-bell configuration, like a Schilke P5-4 or Yamaha.
Talentvolle knaap, geweldige solist..
Very nice performance! Just out of curiosity - I thought the soloist looked a bit like the blonde Viola player who was often seen in the background of his close up shots. Are they related?

(Eight century, or thereabouts) 🤔
What's the 2nd movement? (Adagio?)
It´s Andante; Allegro, Andante, Allegro.
I think that's not in B , becouse this guy is hanging and playing with picolo trumpet....
I don't get it. There are a lot of pieces which are just called like the scales or the tempi within the piece. And if their name is like the scale, you take the scale considering a C instrument. Therefore it is clearly Bb major, even though you play C major on a Bb instrument.

Okay, but i thought that he is hanging F trumpet not B.Clearly i did not understand your song title ! I wish you good day !

Comme il se la trom - pète
Немножко не хватает яркости заука и мягкости
Der hat doch geübt !
🇮🇸🎺
VIVAN LOS BARROCOS
The kid is kind of funny
Entzyckend
פנטסטיק
It's so much better with oboe😌😐🧐
You never hear it performed by an oboe cuz it’s so boring. Trumpet transcription is a more dramatic version.
Annoying kid. This will haunt him in the future.
Fantastic trumpet player... terrible stage presence!
I like this performance a lot, the kid feels baroque pulse!
This is sound of piccolo trumpet, amazing. The beautiful Barock poulse and style...So "fresch" and maturely sound.BRAVO!
