I’ve never been more excited about being so lost lol. Embarking on the introspective journey he suggests, won’t be a short trip, and it’s a road I’ve yet to travel
Since I started getting into magic last summer, I've been lucky enough to get to know Perseus. He's such a nice person and so giving with his time to help anyone. I will likely forever do magic as a hobby (which I'm completely fine with), but learning from him has helped me to enjoy it as much as I do.
Thank you for this! Been doing bedside magic at work for 2 years now and these are all the questions I asked myself (but was to nervous to ask lol). Can’t wait to see the full interview!
your introduction was really well put, your performance muscle is RIPPED :) So, I'm by absolutely no means a good sleight of hand dude, but catched the bug several years ago, I just wanted to learn the bridge American shuffle at the start, ended up on 52kard and various tutorial channels... several weeks later, so completely unqualified to do sleights in front of people, I started showing tricks to my colleagues, and yeah, the only thing I got, if I did not messed up, was exactly that: "how did you do that?" and... because I was fascinated by the mechanics and only knew one thing or two, yeah... I started showing basic principles /moves to them: "you do dis, hold'em like dat and tadaa!"... really not my proudest moment when I look back especially considering how trash I was at the moves anyways... but I quickly realized that it was not what I wanted to share, so I stopped, started to practice more, only to be half decent because I realized, as hours of training went by, that I was by no means good at it...^^ but eventually the day to " " "perform" " " again came, and I got SO nervous to do routines in front of people that I started SHAKING literally, in front of people, yet the same people as before, people I've known for years so WTF is going on? well, I started to really care about the craft... that's why. In the meantime I watched basically all the Penn and Teller shows and random magic content on YT, stumbled upon amazing artists and realized that magic is not "do a bunch of fast or deceptive moves", it's really how Perseus described it, real Magic should last, it should be meaningful, it should make you completely forget about methods. Exactly as you said, in magic if you put all your XP points to your sleight of hand level, you wont be a proper magician with just that, you need to upgrade your persona level too, maybe even more than your sleight of hand stats. Anyway, what did I got after my attempts? the same reaction as before: "how did you do that?" with a smile that I took as a smile of complaisance. So I completely stopped doing tricks (I'll never call it "magic" what I did) , for the sake of the art ^^ I remember also Vinh Giang several years ago, he was doing magic content but focused on the showmanship aspect, and brilliantly demonstrated that sleights are just a tool to create magic and connecting with people, and he is goddamn right ^^ (a shame he deleted all of his old content honestly...)
@@Chronyql did you really read the whole thing from an absolute nobody with all of those typo errors/ bad english ? well, congrats and thanks for your time ^^ (I shall correct some bits for the sake of it, maybe someone else will try to read it, we never know) and really thank you for making such meaningful content, even for non magicians, I feel like there's always something valuable to take from those interviews :)
All I can say is watch “Trojan deck” by Joshua Jay! That’s some of the best patter that’s tied into the technical trick that I have ever seen! The trick almost seems secondary to his wonderful story that he tells. The story that has the audience totally absorbed is the most important part of a routine (obviously you MUST be able to do the technical part of the trick 100% without even thinking so to speak.)Absolutely Luved this extremely important part of magic! Cheers Jeremy 👏.
For me the enjoyment has always been on a rotating course. Sometimes I like to do the 'hard stuff' if there's one person in the crowd having their mind blown because they're able to comprehend the skills being used - it's like a secret we share in front of everyone. Other times it's the challenge of being my best even though the situation is the least: I'm doing something not well publicized and only a small crowd shows - I'm going to do my best to make it truly special. I don't even care if they know my name, I want to be that mythic guy they remember years later thinking, "I was at this thing and there was a guy who ______" There are more facets, but I seem to always find a way to get there. ( I did over 10,000 demos - really- at magic masters back in the day, so maybe that's where I learned this...)
@@jimmywellington yes ofc that is not a live performance...i mean like performing for an audience or perhaps a magic castle clip or smth...like a full performance not a single trick
Honestly, I don’t know. I know sincerity will get you farther than profundity. And I know being sincere puts you in danger of being corny. But I don’t have enough experience creating meaningful pieces of magic to speak with much authority on the subject. You down to message me on my Instagram and I’ll put you in touch with the people who would likely know first hand?
FINALLY Jeremy, I almost started to cry thinking you quitted YT for good PS. On topic, my view of magic is: if you hear the question how did you do that, you are doing it wrong my friend. Edit. HOLY FUCK he sad it himself on eighteen minute mark lol, just saw it now. What can I say, great minds😂 think alike Yea, Einstein died, Tesla also, and Im not feeling well either 😂😂😂

Btw, i'd love to see Tony Chang doing one of these!

If I could like this comment more than once, I would. Thank you so much for taking the time to both watch the video and to write all of this up.

how do you add deeper meaning to your magic with metaphors and symbolism without coming off as "corny"?
