- 096 - Old Faithful Covers version of "Silent Night (Byrdified)" by the Byrds (What if...?). The song is a multi-track cover on which I played and sang all of the instrumental and vocal parts. I tried to sound as close to the original recording as possible.
This is a 'what if?' cover of the Christmas song that the Byrds never recorded for their non-existent Christmas album in 1965 (if it had happened). I made some assumptions, based on the 1965 Byrds members and how I thought they might have approached the task. Please feel free to add comments on any details I could have thrown in to my cover version.
No drum machines, harmony generators, plugins, quantization, MIDI files, sampled music, borrowed / bought / stolen instrumental or vocal tracks were used in the recording. I played or sang every note in this cover.
Please send the link for this video to anyone that you think might enjoy it. Thanks.
Always a pleasure watching and listening to you recreate and interpret classics.
*Reminisced of The Ventures 1965 Christmas ‘mashup’ album.
I'll have to check that album out. 'Diamond Head' and 'Lonely Girl' are my 2 favorite Ventures songs. Thanks for posting and have a merry Christmas.
Yes we did need another Christmas song! Well done!
Glad to have provided yet another one. Have a great Christmas!
Bravo Sir for this Byrds song that never was, a non record but a pretty one. Faithful actually to Byrds' climate in original line-up. French congratulations. 🎸
Thanks so much for that comment. It implies 'mission accomplished' and I am grateful for that. I would love to live in Paris for a couple of years. It'll never happen, but I can dream.
How could I have missed this until today??? Ahh what could be better than putting a Byrds harmony to such a classic tune of the season?? Love it, esp the Bells Of Rhymney ending :-). Great idea Mr 6th Byrdman... What if there suddenly appeared an up to now unknown 1965 Byrds Christmas Album? Taking any requests for it?? :-)). Merry Christmas ......Great Job!!
Thanks for that entertaining comment, Byrdfan. All I can think of at the moment is "Deck the halls with lots of jangle". I would NEVER suggest "Crosby, the snow man", although I think he' would have been fine with it.
Nice one!!
Thank you! Cheers!
