- It happened at Seven Mile near Lasher on the city’s west side when the 60-year-old bus driver, who is a veteran, was on his route early Thursday morning. At about 5 a.m. he made a stop at the bus stop here off Seven Mile near Trinity Street.

The fact that DDOT released a statement insinuating that the Driver’s behavior may have played a role in him being attacked by a group of teens is beyond me and I understand why they are short on Drivers. The person that released the statement sounds as if they’ve never driven or rode the city bus and or just does not care!
The person who released that statement should be identified and publicly fired!

That's a long ass story. I ride bus everyday and the driver always let people that short on money stay on the bus. In short f off

If they do that then they need more temperate drivers and need to go through rigorous training these drivers really are terrible

I used to work for DDOT, but let me tell you something, DDOT doesn't care other drivers for their safety purposes, they fired bus drivers for defending themselves to not to get beaten or killed when they put their life on the line over some stupid ass overtime with $13 an hour. It's not worth it!!!
I would love that too, but given the nature of todays society, if any of those teens were to be shot at due to an escalated circumstance on those buses, you can rest assure, they will come up with a way to retaliate in the same manner and sadly, there have been too many cases of shootings on Public Transit Nationwide just within the past few years alone. In general, though I'm not quite on board with Bus Drivers having Firearms, I do agree that they should not just sit there as "Human Punching Bags" as if they don't have a right to physically fight back either.

This is the DOT's preemptive action blaming the driver so that they don't get sued for not providing a proper safety enclosure for him.

They'll be released right back out on the streets. I was "swarmed" by a "pack" of these young animals just last week. Looked like they ranged in ages from 7 or 8 to about 14 years old. About 10 of them. They swarmed us while waiting on a food order. One of the 8 year olds kept asking elderly people if they had "cash app" while attempting to look into bags and purses. Another older guy like myself, commented that he thought he'd have to start "smacking" those delinquents. I was thinking the same thing. These young kids are ATROCIOUS. Scavengers, roaming the streets like a pack of wolves. Don't let their age fool you. THEY ARE NOT "KIDS".

I’m sorry you had to experience this. Glad your safe. You know, something similar happened to me in Florida small kids and pre teens approached me at a bank as I was making a withdrawal out in front. The pre teen kept asking if I give him a dollar then a the little kids and a damn toddler looking child kept asking me what I had on me. I was flabbergasted! I quickly shut that down. But these no good for nothing parents need to discipline their kids instead of letting them run wild dogs. Wild dogs 🐕 get put down too

@Andre Seewood it’s only common sense no one can teach that, point is they knew and know what they were and are doing is wrong it’s by choice they choose to do the wrong thing thus getting the book thrown at them no matter the age or color you commit the crime you do the time… I’ve never blamed my absent father or my cracked out mom every time I went to jail I knew what I was doing was wrong and still did it, just because they are black we should go light on them and give them a pass because they weren’t raised right at what point in time should we hold them responsible for their own actions?

This is the reason why DDOT as a company shows they don't care I will never forget the bus driver that went viral during covid-19 outbreak and complain about the company not caring and people coughing not wearing mask, and express they shouldn't even be working it was that moment when he passed away shortly after I realized the driver working for that company don't care about their workers

Hope the driver is okay. Are they confirming this bus was one of the ones equipped with the Covid protection barrier and the driver came from behind it and challenged the teens versus the teens breaking through the covid barrier and attacking/robbing him? To release that statement, I guess they have seen video and have witness and victim statements to support their findings.

For some reason about 4 years ago. I had an interview with DDot out in Detroit but I didn't get notification from my email. I found out a year later. However, a retired bus driver said working at the DDot is very stressful.
