    Im a heating engineer. So much wrong with that video safety wise but good luck mate and tbh well done.
    Wee recommendation is stop getting plumbers to look at boilers they dont have a clue i would say as high 80%.
    They don't fix boilers its a different trade.

    Hi mate, on the old PCB were any of the capacitors blown? (bulging out at the top) if so you could have tried to replace them if you can solder. capacitors are cheap. read old capacitor for correct value. To the gas safe people, PCBs can be repaired, refurbished, rather than put in land fills.

    Thank you for sharing I have the same fault, with a bit of research you can buy a reconditioned PCB from CET Ltd they work on a return basis where you send back your old board and they will then recondition that one repairing the blown components

    Faulty PCBs are often down to dry solder joints on the board and someone with basic electronics soldering skills can fix them up in a jiffy.

    I had a plumber around because my boiler would not ignite. He could not even remove the front panel of the boiler. Eventually he phoned someone up, removed the panel then asked for instructions on how to do some tests. He then told me the pcb was probably knackered demanded a call out fee, cash only, and when I had paid it he put the front panel back on and departed. Useless bugger.

      Just wonderful, I been tryin to find out about "how do you repair electric circuit boards?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Giyathan Bewildering Gratification - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is a great exclusive guide for discovering how to repair your electronic items like a wizard minus the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my mate got excellent success with it.

    Cost me £300 the last time a pcb was changed on my boiler took him 10 mins, and he did not faff around wearing special gloves or a grounding wire while handling the pcb nor did he test the emissions' after fitting, there are so many so called fitters talking about a boiler like it is a space ship, this shows they are either devious or not very knowledgeable.

    I changed PCB last year and it was functioning. Today, all I can see is just the light on burner is on. I tried turning the nob to reset it, but no fan and pilot light and there is no firing sound. Checking the wires for current that goes out from PCB, the wire going towards Pressure Regulator does not indicate current flowing. What might have been the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Don’t worry. Gas safe is only a requirement to break the seal of the combustion chamber or work on a gas carrying component. You’re fine to change the pcb yourself and save a packet.

      Brought the piece for £30 watched videos on how to do the job
      Do myself. Worth while having a go. ain't messing with gas

      Wtf you are changing the component that controls all parts on boiler. You need to carry out 26/9 gas checks after replacing a pcb. Contact the gassafe register and they will tell you the same. You didn't confirm safe electrical isolation and clearly don't know how to handle a pcb.

    • @nevergiveupever1069

      I wish these so called plumbers would learn the law before leaving negative comments. You're absolutely correct. If the combustion chamber is not touched you can work on the pcb

    • @andrewhoare5927

      I’m guessing you carried out all relevant checks with regard flueing,ventilation,combustion and safety devices after DIY’ing a PCB swap? Only the part that controls the ignition sequence of the appliance.

      its not that sensitive like an old PC from 1970 lol . ffs theres an HT spark coil on the board , if it where that prone to static it would blow it self up on call for heating 1st go.

    • @slider3215
      @slider3215 3 года назад +5

      he didn't know hence the call out. In all probability wanted a tradesman to identify the fault so he could save a few £££s, fit the part himself and then calls the plumber "next to useless"

  • @joncocks2262
    @joncocks2262 5 лет назад +10

    All the neg comments from expensive tradesmen who charge a small fortune for 10 minutes work. Sometimes on shit you don't need.
    Once cost me £75 years ago to change a washer on leaking tap.
    Then another tried charging £150 just to fit 1 rad that's with any rad or pipes we had the buy them.
    Never again if it's gas or big scale electric not a chance. Changing a pcb board. Diverterver valve. Adding a new bathroom I'll do it myself thank you

      Hi Ben, Many years ago we had the professionals?, Gas Safe British Gas to service our Glow Worm Back Boiler, following their visit there was a strong smell of gas. They had not correctly tightened the gas connection. Regular servicing on our new replacement Veissmann Boiler was done by a gas registered Heating Engineer, the Expansion Vessel pressure was never checked leading to over pressure of the system and further problems. I can fully understand competent (you hope) people having a go themselves.

      @@rodfisher2837 there are cowboys in many trades and I absolutely despise them. As a gas engineer it makes me sick to think there are other so called gas engineers out there completing work to a poor and dangerous standard as you have experienced and those people should be reported to gas safe. I would always advise that a gas safe registered engineer should be the only person working on a gas appliance as there are so many things that can go wrong. Stay safe dude!

    • @davideyres955
      @davideyres955 2 года назад

      @@jameslawson7791 not quite true. It depends on what he is touching and the manufacturers instructions. Provided he is not disturbing anything that affects combustion then he is entitled to do the work. I suspect that the pub does control the function so would recommend a gas safe registered plumber is employed since they will be able to verify proper operation to the manufacturers spec.

    I've changed the circuit board 4 times in 12 years... Ive changed other components, valves , actuators etc,.... but always the probelm is the circuit board.... These fail frequently...diodes etc bun out especially if systme si used frequently. Each wite usually onyl fit sin its own fitting housing, but a photo is hand, not pull one wire off and put it on the new, You can easily damage the board like this. Use fine plastic gloves - TURN POWER OFF FIRST

    So you already know what a PCB is? Just calling it a “PCB board” displays your level of understanding and competence. What you are doing is potentially dangerous with massive consequences! My advice to you and anyone else giving this the thumbs up, is call a professional gas engineer who will diagnose, the correct problem, replace and set up any new parts and leave you with a safe working boiler..

      Do get over yourself, he doesn’t touch the gas side or the combustion chamber. And as for interpreting his use of “PCB board” as evidence of incompetence, just crazy. Yes we all know it stands for “Printed Circuit Board” so adding the word board is superfluous, but it’s just a figure of speech. How many people say “reverse back” - does that make them incompetent drivers?
