  • I wondered what it would be like to press the fire button. Quite uneventful as it turns out. The glass snaps right down the middle as intended.
    Here's how it was for me.

    Thank you. I've always wondered about what you do to break the glass. Fire evacuation instructions rarely seem to go beyond 'activate the break glass call point'.

    I have a vintage UK call point what uses non laminated non saftey glass, as it was made way before call points had saftey glass like they do now.

    I once had to pull the fire alarm. There was quite a big fire in the corridor. The glass didn't break in half. It broke into a thousand tiny, sharp peices. I got about 6 pieces of glass in my finger.

    If you have a laser cut machine you need: mica ( plastic glass) 0.9 mm, cut out rectangle 4x7.7 cm

      Yes. This one is glass. It is designed to break along that line. And it is laminated.

      @@angelinafinn1355 it’s real glass with a sticker over the front, you can get resettable plastic elements on other types of call point though.

    I wanted to know how to reset this old bad boy. Cos theres no space to enter a key in this one

    • @jtgreaves
      @jtgreaves 4 месяца назад

      Test key enters on the bottom left of the unit. To reset once pressed you have to undo the screw to remove the front plate and replace with a new glass sheet.

    Why Glass? Is there done reason it is glass and not a button?
    Will the glass automatically break under a lot of heat?

    • @ryanhelton1865
      @ryanhelton1865 3 года назад +1

      No it’s just how they are made back then now they are plastic instead of glass

    • @roowut

      probably so it’s harder to “accidentally” pull it
      but that’s just a guess

    So, all one has to do is to break the glass and nothing else?? There's like, no button under the glass to press??

    • @MeMyselfAndEyez

      The circuit for these must be closed all the time - like someone holding in a button on a doorbell making it ring indefinitely.
      (Safer that way - you'd know sooner if there was a fault!)
      When the button is held in, the circuit is closed. Once it's released, the alarm triggers - the panel at the other end realises something has broke the circuit. Above the glass on the model in this video is a small microswitch held in the "on" position, which flips to "off" if the glass breaks. Older models had a similar thing, but it was a button right in the middle of the glass which you could see - you didn't break the glass to press it, you broke the glass to let it spring out.
