  • Autism, Borderline, Dissociation, Anxiety, Intergenerational Trauma - so often all of this and more shows up in the same family system making things complicated for all involved. This video was inspired by content recently created by Dr Kim Sage, a Licensed Psychologist whose video 'moms with borderline (and possible autism): dissociation, anger and intergenerational trauma) struck a chord with me.
In this video I reflect on the Epigenetic link behind anxiety and find a new way to relate to this often unwanted part of myself. I discuss the dynamics I've experienced of life in a complex family system and share my coping strategies. I look a little at how autism, borderline, dissociation and anxiety can often cross over and be mistaken for each other and talk about how it's the motivation behind the behaviour rather than the behaviour itself that is key to understanding the 'why'.
I make these videos from my own personal perspective as a late-diagnosed autistic woman. I hope some of this will resonate positively with you, my viewers, and it might form a small step on your journey of self-discovery. Now it'd be a big call to be able to do that for everyone so if this doesn't resonate then I thank you for dropping by anyway and hope you find something more appropriate for you.
Life is full of twists and turns and life in a complex family system makes things harder but hopefully, with a little help, it doesn't need to end in desperation.

Wow. I’m the same age and feeling and experiencing many of the same things. Recently burned out completely after years of teaching and struggling mightily with it.
What you said about anxiety or fear over exceeding my capacity was a total 💡 moment!! Thank you for discussing these things.

This was very relatable for me. Also Gen X, family/ancestral trauma, and personally a very disrupted life path. This was carefully expressed and very useful, thank you, Amanda 😊
And hope you get well soon!

Really appreciate the insight about having an underlying fear of self-abandonment!

This was very interesting. My friend has borderline, but I've suspected she might have autism or ADHD underlying it. I too may have one or the other, but ADHD for sure.
