    Bishop Barron's familial manner puts these questions in perspective, the conversation style is congenial, concise and practical. His Excellency's informality in the discussion is so likable. It's as if one is present at a small gathering of Catholic priests watching this and listening to the podcast a few days before. At ease with almost any subject, his approach seems unguarded, a disarming presence, gives the impression of being invitingly approachable like being among friends.

    I think the parish can do a lot to help a priest not feel lonely by inviting him to dinner or family celebrations. Treating him to coffee or lunch. For our priest, because of Covid, we had a big drive-by birthday party in the parking lot and showered him with gifts and cards to show how much we appreciate him and what he is doing for us during the pandemic. I know it's not quite the same as fraternity with other priests, but I think we need to make our parish priests feel loved and appreciated.

      I'm happy to share that in the Philippines, it is usual for the priest to be invited to all sorts of social activities or even just a family meal or coffee at the parish concessionaire. Of course, we observe masking and social distancing. We're pretty mindful of that because medical care is expensive here.

    • @bassman_0074
      @bassman_0074 4 года назад

      DAMM990 every priest graduates with 9 years of post high school education. (4 college, 4 major seminary, 1 diaconate) They could’ve gone into anything else and made A LOT more money with that level of education but they chose the priesthood instead while giving up a lot more than just money. A wife, kids, more days off, etc.

    • @bassman_0074
      @bassman_0074 4 года назад

      Collins Anosike yeah I agree. I was just talking about priests in general so that’s why I mentioned the minimum education they need (which is very extensive).
      Plus he said the priests are in it for the money, so I said they already gave up a lot of money as well as many other things to show that their intentions are pure instead of greedy.

      Dude, I keep on running into your comments on a ton of videos. Didn't you once get into a debate on an eastern Orthodox video? You quoted a bunch of eastern fathers supporting papal primacy.

    • @LostArchivist
      @LostArchivist 4 года назад

      @@theosis9582 I have no idea honestly. I spend way too much time in the RUclips sphere though. If I quoted Eastern Fathers that was by God leading me, I only gather the wisdom of others and try to use this technology for its purpose by gathering the great feast of wisdom that Holy Mother Church has to offer here. I certainly couldn't repeat it here on the spot.
      I am flattered you noticed me though. Feel free to browse my playlists (I do need to clean them though, and I recommend a computer since mobile only lists the most recent and that is always shifting), there are alot of gems I dug up in there. Pick what catches your eye and what God calls you towards and start walking through the verdant fields of the Church's wisdom. If you like the Church Fathers specifically try the Journey Home Network's series on it and Catholic Culture's Way of the Fathers podcast for a good start.
      God bless you!

    Your program, Word on Fire, sounds very good, and really, most necessary. One of my arguments with the church is that it had forgotten how to go out to the world. In point, the church has discouraged lay involvement as a “professional” approach by priests, brothers and sisters could be the only ones trusted to carry our that calling of the church. The church has done a very minimal and piss poor job instructing its faithful in many aspects of the faith let alone to be evangelical. My problem with your program, or almost any church program, is that I can not economically afford it. I know it cost to set up and operate any program, Enough said. I am a sinner, god help me.

    The seminary life I have known: A greenhouse where souls and spirits were in some way fertilized to think in a pre-formatted way with a high level of suspicion for our bodies while, at the same time, an intellectual development opportunity to be envied by many universities. From age 13 on, meals in silence, monthly retreats, mandatory sports, study, prayer and, yes, a heart full support from noble and generous men of prayer of awesome intellect. A love-hate relationship for me, a precious heritage and, at the same time, a running commentary that if you did not become a priest, you risked eternal failure. To pursue your metaphor of « seeds being planted and cultivated », I felt more like a bonsai tree than a oak tree allowed to grow as the oak tree that it is.
